Re: “The Agenda: Chs. could take West Ashley lot via eminent domain; Senate passes gas tax; Mulvaney takes blame for repeal falter

This eminent domain is not good! Are we living in a communist country now? Gee, I guess we are. Seems we are losing our freedom of speech now. So why not take some property you own. If they do this, what is next? So, does that mean, the city can decide to just take away my house???? Think about it.....you take an inch, then you take a yard.

Re: “Seven-story development at corner of King and Spring streets gains final approval

This looks like a shopping mall in Atlanta. The last thing it should be called is elegant.

Re: “Seven-story development at corner of King and Spring streets gains final approval

Will any affordable units be allotted? #ilovedowntowntoo. Other cities luxury buildings housed 80/20 units. Charleston needs affordable housing downtown. Why not start here!

That College of Charleston rent revenue will make it work.

Re: “Bitty and Beau's, a coffee shop staffed by intellectually and developmentally disabled people, opening in Charleston

This is a great idea. If they are capable of doing the work safely, I would be happy to see them have jobs and leading a more productive life.

I will drop in when they open. I am always looking for a good cup of coffee that does not require me to learn Latin just to place my order.

Re: “What're you scared of?

Trying to understand this cartoon. Is it saying that only white Americans feel they have a right to carry a weapon for self protection, or that All Americans should be against the 'Constitutional Carry bill' because it might make it hard for terrorists to be noticed when they walk armed down the street?

If you are a citizen of the United States, the Constitution applies to you. The second amendment is a CIVIL right, just like freedom of speech.

Re: “The Exposure Myth

We all want to be a part of our communities, not just live in them. Im hopeful that this will be the start of an open, honest and productive discussion that brings artists (and designers, developer, volunteers, et al as Buff Ross pointed out) and the non-profit community closer together. Thank you to the Nathansons for stepping forward publicly.

What an amazing idea! I will follow the progress as Bitty and Beau's comes to Charleston and make sure to be there when they open!

Re: “The Exposure Myth

In Houston Avenue formerly known as Avenue CDC which develops affordable housing has for over 20 years had a big ticketed event with an art auction where the participating artists can choose to donate either %50 %75 %100 of the purchase price. There is a preview event that tickets are about $100 each to come and the artists all come free. Also the Sat. event is about $30 a person now and artists come free. Most of us also volunteer time to help with the event. The desire among artists to participate has grown so each artist can only submit one large piece or two small ones. I have been participating almost since the beginning and usually sell one of my figure watercolors. We also get to set the market value and minimum bid and the then the buy now based on that. Images are on their website before the auction. it is a big success because of the split between artist and charity. I have tried to get some other organizations to do similar events but no luck . Only one other so far and they set the minimum bid and only give %30 to the artist. More organizations should consider a split if they want donations

Re: “Should the Dewberry's rooftop bar have been allowed to open?

Bravo to the city for turning down the application. Now let's put our energy to halt the hotels from taking away the Charleston we came here to enjoy. It won't be long before we won't be able to look out across the harbor and enjoy the views.

Tom Starland - This is not about this issue just being discovered. ITS ABOUT IT STILL HAPPENING. But you couldn't resist just being mean. Per usual.
If you weren't running such an outdated publication and had any readership, maybe someone would take notice of what you say.

Re: “Should the Dewberry's rooftop bar have been allowed to open?

You know how people say that it is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission? Not with construction permits. The professionals know this. They f*cked up. "Oh, but they're wealthy businesspeople, shouldn't they get their way with this neato thingy?" Dwayne asks.

No because that would make it even more f*cked up. The argument that they've rehabilitated the Rivers Federal Building is a red herring; they are getting their money out of that hotel and the restaurants just like they originally planned.

Re: “City and state legislators push plans to bolster affordable housing in Charleston

The Homeownership Initiative has several homes in its inventory and is a great place to start to provide affordable housing. This legislation kicks the can down the road. We have a good start in the HI program it's just highly under utilized. Please Google it to learn more

Re: “It was the best of, it was the worst of

Really, you should take a harder look in-house if you're concerned. Awards have been created specifically for advertisers. It's a joke and it has been for a while. Foghorn Leghorn pretty accurately summarized the process. What you're doing is describing a turd sandwich and saying one half sucks instead of the other.
