Re: “After Columbia, is it time for Charleston to consider a new city flag?

The article was changed. Earlier, in place of that, it said "crescent moon."

All Moultrie, the creator of the flag, described it as was a "crescent."

He mentions the gorget in this piece. Don't y'all even read something before you start criticizing?

Re: “Beachheads and the War on Facts

If Obama had behaved this way, he would have been lynched, drawn and quartered, then what was left would be incinerated because this would have made him evil.

This week in Authoritarianism. http://www.shakesville.com/2017/02/today-i…

Is it time to be scared, yet? Undermining constitutional guarantees? I'd say it's time to be terrified!

Re: “After Columbia, is it time for Charleston to consider a new city flag?

And for those of you baffled by Cid, the answer starts with "G"
btw, Cid, stopped in at Palmetto Moon at Citadel Mall when they first opened their corporate hq in the Mall and asked the significance of their name, I was told in a very condescending tone by the person in charge that, of course, it was all about the state flag.

Re: “Recounting the pepper spray, sting ball grenades, and righteous anger at Trump’s inauguration

It's not hard.

Protest without breaking laws (don't block traffic, don't break shit, don't assault people, etc) = ok.

Rioting, violence, destroying property = illegal.

Also, it's not happening on "both sides" - how many Sanders, Clinton, Stein events were canceled due to violent protests? None. Trump had two canceled, plus various other well-documented attacks on Trump supporters before and after the election. The left are demonstrably intolerant and violent.

Re: “Go for the hummus at Istanbul Shish Kabobs

I voted for Trump and I like this restaurant. Food and politics aren't related (and it's a very safe assumption that the owners are either Americans or lawful residents in the process of becoming Americans - "biased towards...the American owned establishments of downtown Charleston").

City seals (which is all this flag is) are pretty obscure and hard to get fired up about.

You should at least know, though, that we don't have a moon on our state flag.

I once said about Chris Haire: "Smartass isn't cute, smartass isn't clever, smartass is just smartass. But at least Haire knew the facts he was spoofing and could give a coherent explanation. Dustin, do you have any knowledge what the symbols on the flag historically represent, or are you just a low-budget smartass?

Re: “Is 'Becky with the Good Hair' coming to Charleston Fashion Week?

Are there typos in this or am I having a stroke? "Solange Knowles, Beyonce's sister, went viral showing her beating Jay Z an elevator at NYCs Standard Hotel. According to tabloids, like Hollywood Life, Solange was pissed at Jay Z for his 'too close for comfort' friendship with Beyonces husband."

Who came up with the brunch / 1920's Soviet worker party flag? All it's missing is a hammer and a sickle, lol

Re: “Go for the hummus at Istanbul Shish Kabobs

First of all, I would like to ask: what did this restaurant ever do to Vanessa Wolf to deserve such a scathing, demeaning review? This restaurant never attempts to compare itself to a James Beard award winning chef-of-a-restaurant. It's homestyle, comfort food. It's family owned- not fancy trained chef food. It's not pretentious. It's delicious, comforting, delightful in all the right ways. And I am proud to give them my hard earned dollar, because the people preparing and making the food from scratch deserve it. It's fresh, it's prepared right in front of you. Compared to most of the southern style eateries around here, I would venture to say it's even a healthier choice rather than "gritty & greasy" like Wolf claims. I feel like this review was highly unfair, biased towards the fancy American owned establishments of downtown Charleston rather than good down-home cooking. I would argue that Charleston does not have a diverse enough food scene, so why give this restaurant that actually adds something new so much grief? In a trump era presidency, where diversity from the middle east is on the line, a review like this could serious hurt a whole family's livelihood. Support this business, and when you're there, get the mixed grill platter and add grilled vegetables and the spicy grilled tomato salad. Charleston City paper: rethink who you want covering small, family run ethnic restaurants such as these.

Re: “Is 'Becky with the Good Hair' coming to Charleston Fashion Week?

Basic. Who really cares? Now if the Queen Bey and Jay Z would come, we would be all amped up. I mean good hair and ho-hum off the rack department store clothing can only take you so far. That's my fashion review for the day. Here's my Fashion Tip: Shop at Billy Reid or IBU not Macys and Nordstrom's. Support smaller shops and skip the basic.

Re: “The Agenda: Slager lawyers want charges dismissed; Council votes to fund I-526; Graham will lead Russian hacking inquiry

These lawyers for Slager must think we are stupid, when they call a retrial after hung jury, double jeopardy. I am not even a lawyer and I know well it would be double jeopardy only if Slager had been acquitted. These lawyers know that perfectly well, they are just lying through their teeth.
