Re: “The Agenda: Star Wars-themed Dreamliner; Boeing union drops April vote; Army Corps permits could mean big facility

"The unions of the past served a purpose to get proper safety rules regulated by law, that purpose is over."

Disagree. Unions still serve a purpose for collective bargaining of benefits we should all enjoy in a 21st century society (maternity leave, sick leave, etc.)--most of which are not guaranteed in this state.

SC is near the bottom of the barrel in worker's rights, and will continue to be this backwards with this open hostility toward unions.

Re: “The Agenda: Star Wars-themed Dreamliner; Boeing union drops April vote; Army Corps permits could mean big facility

Fortunately in this state the workers have the right to either join a union or not join a union, in this case they chose not to. It is unfortunate that a couple of union reps were greeted at the door with someone holding a gun but maybe they should not have been so aggressive in campaigning. There have been horror stories about people going to employees houses repeatedly even after being told they were not wanted. And anyone who thinks that major operation like Boeing condones unsafe working conditions is believing in a union inspired fantasy. The unions of the past served a purpose to get proper safety rules regulated by law, that purpose is over.

As someone who has known Phillip personally for many years, I can say that publicity is the last thing he was looking for. It's almost impossible to believe but there are some people on this planet who are not solely motivated by their own greed and advancement.

Re: “Theater review: Marie Antoinette fails to emotionally connect

I couldn't disagree more with this review. The script is smart, funny and accessible. Ms. Graci's immaculately choreographed transitions from scene to scene were a joy to watch. The performances were spectacular, especially Ms. Haring's tour-de-force turn as Marie Antoinette. Although he rightly praised the gorgeous, inventive costumes, the reviewer missed the finer points of the scenic design and completely ignored the stellar lighting and sound designs, both of which were among the best I've seen at Pure. Scenically, the design takes inspiration from Philippe Starck's Louis Ghost Chairs, crafting everything from tables to archery bows in clear acrylic. Like the script, it presents historical details in a modern aesthetic, while metaphorically nodding to the fact that Marie is without privacy and perpetually on display. The sound design also plays with the anachronistic aesthetic, setting the action against French covers of pop music that infuse the show with a sense of playfulness and rebellion. The lighting design continues the theme with clear acrylic footlights adorned with fleurs-de-lis, using them to ominous effect in a design that evokes time, mood and place effortlessly in the confines of a black box space that is extremely difficult to work in. This show is smart – really, really smart – and an absolute joy to watch.

Re: “Walter Scott's death is proof the system doesn't work

"I don't think anyone at the City Paper would use the n word."

"But I am pretty sure they use the Uncle Tom word and other racially derogatory terms for a black that doesn't agree with their agenda when Tim Scott's name comes up."

You would have to add corporate whore to the list to make it accurate because if there is one thing for sure Uncle Tim is a corporate whore.

Re: “Charleston police finalize body camera policy

I hope tech will be ready 24/7..and what a way to take a break from work...my camera is acting up...this technology age is getting on my nerves...why can't we all just be real people instead of having a big brother to watch over us 24/7...are we that stupid...wait..maybe we are...especially since we consent to this. Whoever runs for Mayor next time, might want to run on the platform, no more cameras..or something even better..the world is your oyster

Well, if workers don't want protection of a union, like to protect them in case of unsafe working conditions, etc., it is their choice. They just believe the propaganda that unions are somehow socialist, so they hate them.

I wish they did serve some czech food as I would be all over that. We need a good czech, hungarian or even a ukrainian restaurant here. It would be nice to have a change once in a while.

Re: “Charleston police finalize body camera policy

Quit half-assing! Clearly, every human and domesticated animal in the US needs cameras on them 24/7 with a live feed to a new government body called the Department of Omnipotent Management who will monitor actions real time for crimes, or potential crimes, and dispatch the police to apprehend the threat for preventative detention. I think I read a novel about this once...maybe they could use that as a guide?

This will, of course, require another several hundred billion dollars in deficit spending but, safety. Can't argue with safety, and the Constitution is just a piece of paper anyway. It can't stand in the way of safety.

Good burn, Kinsey, although it is interesting that you're criticizing his word choice as defamatory when he was actually advocating for diversity in our local kitchens. "Colored people, GASP! They are people of color, you dinosaur! I will now ignore the point of what you said!"

Re: “The Fat Radish's Ben Towill will develop new hotel restaurant

Towill will do very little in exchange for a fat paycheck. I admire his business acumen immensely. For a really young guy he has planned his career moves out perfectly. A little menu planning, a few pics of Ben in the kitchen, lobby and shaking a few local VIP hands. He will not be cooking, he will not be hanging around in the kitchen unless its a photo op and hes in town, hes not the manager, he will not actually be doing any marketing - just lending what hes already done and pics of him. Oh and he is the "strategic partnership". He is a brand. Trust me, not much for a lot of $$. I hope he is as smart as old Daniel Boulud and still jumps back in the kitchen on occasion or pays those surprise visit raids on his kitchen staff. I understand young Kinseys excitement, we are leadbelly regulars - as we can walk home, but I would of been much more excited if Phil was going be here. He has a really really great man bun, a wicked dark sense of humor and a stunning Hemingway GF. I do hope the Dingleberry - all credit to factoryconnection - does well and becomes a long term success.

Re: “The Agenda: Star Wars-themed Dreamliner; Boeing union drops April vote; Army Corps permits could mean big facility

See, all those idiot dumbass ads boeing paid for were a huge waste of money. The marketing department should be called to task for this one, bombarding us for weeks with really stupid and expensive ads in all forms of media. Workers are not as stupid or as sheeplike as boeing always seems to think they are. This is SC and we can still spot carpetbaggers in all forms including Union AND corporate from 50 miles away. Nobody today is going to sign up for anything and give people money for nothing, they do their homework. As a shareholder, this money wasting crapola really pisses me off. No wonder my shares are down 2.37 this week, I had to help pay for the dumbass ads. Worse marketing ever...well, except for Carnival.

Re: “Walter Scott's death is proof the system doesn't work

No one ever said he deserved to die. And the tirade regarding child support is way off. If you father a child, and no one does it by accident, you commit to supporting it for the rest of your life. Maybe the payments stop, but this is your child. There are too many instances where males do the nasty and then run away. If he was afraid of, again, being unable to pay the money he owed, then he needs to get an additional job. What is your suggestion to non-child support. Just let him get away with it? The cop was wrong. Everybody agrees. But is is not news anymore. Get on with your lives, and let the system work.

Re: “The Agenda: Star Wars-themed Dreamliner; Boeing union drops April vote; Army Corps permits could mean big facility

There was never a desire for the Union to come to town. The support was just not there, but the union insisted on forcing itself on the employees of Boeing. When the finally got down to talking one-on-one with the employees, the found out really fast that they were not welcome. Maybe the two guys who ran them off their property with a gun gave them an idea they were not welcome. Raspberries to Wendel Gaillard for claiming he had real support for these clowns. I lost a lot of respect for him while he continued to promote them. He's becoming another Kwadgo. Hopefully the union won't be back for a long time. And here's hoping they don't try and infect the new Daimler plant coming to N. Charleston. Somebody might just get a bit more riled if they try and force themselves on these workers.

Re: “Walter Scott's death is proof the system doesn't work

I agree with most of your article. We should try to understand what it's like to be a minority being pulled over by a cop. I believe there is a war-like environment for cops and black men that we white people don't understand and hope to never have to. I was pulled over by a very hateful white cop while I had the flu. I had swerved a little on my way to pick up my daughter. Very long story short, he treated me with disdain, removed my license tag though I had paid my taxes, and wrote a ticket. Dashboard video later proved my side of the story- that he had lied about the incident and had treated me with disrespect.

But we were not a physical threat to each other's lives. He knew from statistics and personal experience that I probably wasn't going to lunge from my car and try to take his gun. I knew from my experience that he wasn't going to arrest me for no apparent reason. That is not true of cops and minorities. They both live in fear of one another and for good reason- history and experience. Kids should be raised to obey the police and act like respectful citizens. Michael Brown was killed because he fit the description of a robber then refused police orders, then reached into a police vehicle and struggled with a cop! He had no right to do that. If he had not been acting like a thug, he would still be alive. Walter Scott's story however is very sad and makes no sense. I wish he wouldn't have started running though. Running away from your responsibilities literally and figuratively is not what a grown man should be doing. However, everyone I know was sickened by what happened to him. Thank God for the video. But we're not bad people because we didn't want another Ferguson, where the protests went on and on. If it's not already, it should be illegal to block the roads for any reason. People have children to get home to. Babies that need breast milk but mom's stuck in traffic. People are in pain from needing to use the restroom but they're stuck in traffic. It's more than a "brief interruption" as you put it. Protest at police stations or the state house, not where civilians who had absolutely nothing to do with the issue are put in danger. I am glad Officer Slager is behind bars for murder. I would also want violent protesters and people blocking the roads to be put behind bars.

In Czech language, it is spelled lokál. And are there no Czech dishes on the menu? The dishes you have mentioned do not look Czech.
