Re: “We shopped at Mt. Pleasant's new ALDI grocery store so you don't have to

This is possibly the laziest CP article I've ever read. Aside from the obnoxious tweets, it's like 5 sentences. I'm surprised the arrogant and condescending 'journalist' made the effort to Uber it from their ivory tower all the way to Mt. Pleasant. A quarter in the cart?! What newfangled trickery! #cartshard #kinseyconfused

Re: “We shopped at Mt. Pleasant's new ALDI grocery store so you don't have to

The value of Aldi is wasted on the Mt. Pleasant privledged. Park Circle would have been a better location. We'd be happy to return the carts and bring our own bags. We'd be thrilled to have local access to low-cost organic food.

I look forward to checking it out...good heads up that I should bring my own bags and a quarter...but mostly what I got from this article is that Kinsey Gidic is arrogant if not an Ass.

Re: “1 Broad St. to become "Upper East Side Waffle House"

OMG! You are not actually going to call it: "Upper East Side Waffle House"
That is a most uncool name for such a cool building and spot.

Re: “When Charleston County Council codes of conduct act as chains

Jessie, don't always agree with your political point of view but I would have to agree with your premise here, there is a time for everything. I've sat on many meetings where most of the people present knew exactly what was afoot and completely disapproved, but did nothing because they were afraid to take the heat from certain 'nice' power players. Civility and common courtesy in public discourse are important, there is something to be said for the southerner's way of calling someone a jackass without using that word, or being a jackass in the process, Mr. Summy however has certainly failed in that regard. We've all known since our days in junior high that civility and common courtesy can be handy tools for intimidation and manipulation. Interesting article, thanks.

Re: “1 Broad St. to become "Upper East Side Waffle House"

"Upper East Side Waffle House"? Huh? That's the name and this isn't an Onion piece? That's the best they can come up with? So they're going to going serving Shrimp and Grits six ways?

Anything with Waffle House in the name is an appropriation of West Ashley culture and further gentrification of downtown.

Re: “We shopped at Mt. Pleasant's new ALDI grocery store so you don't have to

Kinsey may have been going for sarcastic humor, but she succeeded only on one point. Yes I'm of a similar political mind. Yes I (as a submarine veteran) can deal in a level of sarcasm that could peel paint off a barn. Yes I appreciate jokes. I would have appreciated funny jokes here. As it is the piece reads like you were merely trolling. Savvy move, internet-focused editor.

Now down to the brass tacks: Aldi's original parent company split into two entities due to some Albrecht family dispute into Aldi Sud and Aldi Nord (that's South and North for you folks that demand we speak 'Merican in 'Merica). In the United States: Aldi Nord is the parent of Trader Joe's, Aldi Sud is the parent of Aldi US. For some unconfirmed gossip: the Mt.P Aldi and TJ's are also owned by competing members of the same family, with no small amount of bad blood engendered by their close proximity. Source: one chatty cashier, the best source for grocery-related gossip.

Re: “We shopped at Mt. Pleasant's new ALDI grocery store so you don't have to

My Aldi's has an upscale brand "Specially Selected" which has specialty items for the people who can afford it!! I have also found that Aldi's has a lot of organic food items for which I am thankful. As for bags and boxes, bring your own reusable bags (I have several that fold up and fit in my purse and keep several in the back of my car for when I go to the store unexpectedly). There are far too many plastic bags floating around in our environment which look trashy and damage wildlife. I am appalled that some people think this way. We all need to be more aware of sustainability and I applaud Aldi's that they don't supply bags. I wish more grocery stores would follow suit!!

Geez people...lighten up. This article is called sarcasm and is a joke. It wasn't intended as serious journalism or news. It's funny, lighthearted and made me laugh. We all do things and go places that we can make fun of. When did we lose the ability to laugh at ourselves?

I shopped at Aldi for years before moving to Charleston. Glad to have one here. options are good. Obviously the store isn't right for this pretentious douchebag, but for many reasons Aldi is a great choice. Wish it would have been on James Island..

Re: “We shopped at Mt. Pleasant's new ALDI grocery store so you don't have to

I've been going to ALDI since I was a kid. Prices are good for certain things, but the overall store layout and checkout procedure gives me anxiety.

To be fair, I'm glad we have ALDI for it's low priced options, but I also feel selection is a little limited. I'm also single and not trying to feed an entire household, so I recongnize that a lot of its benefits don't necessarily address my personal needs. The one in Summerville left me wishing that we had gotten a Trader Joe's instead .... mainly because there is more to choose from, but still with reasonable prices and the staff seemed to be a little more cheery. I say, to each their own. I'm pretty sure one writer's opinion will not dissuade the hoard of aggresive shoppers at ALDI. Just a tip- do not stop long in the isles OR turn around..... lol you will be run over or nudged with a buggy. But by all means, take advantage of the low prices and decent quality products they provide. Hopefully ALDI can inspire other stores with some of their more positive business practices. lol- I probably would have written a similar article after my ALDI experience in Summerville last week.

Great article A++++ You nailed Hicks and his snarky hypocrisy perfectly, as well as the soap opera going on at Charleston County Council.
