Muscle Memory is Columbia's best band and I'm in a Columbia band...
The real impact that the Dirty Dozen had on Brass bands was their recordings. There were very few recordings of Brass Bands before the Dirty Dozen and those were poorly recorded in the streets.
Kelly - 'Tosser' or 'Wanker' means 'Masturbator'.
Just by sharing your story you will help those who are struggling. Thank you for your courage and truth.
You go Hunter! When the kids were growing up Hunter was always one of my favorites among my kids friends. She was always upbeat, always incredibly well-mannered in that old southern way that many of the kids just don't have (her grandmother did a fine job), quite talented and my favorite (of course) - well dressed. I'll say it again, You go Hunter!!
Is it that hard to believe? These bands toured together in the past, they played HoB in Myrtle Beach on that tour. Would love to see them team up again!
hahah purple !!
I'll be behind all the kids :)
Artrogue I will be here tonight. I'll be wearing purple and I will be highly intoxicated. Have 2 friends in town from NYC LES who are huge fans who will also be attending. These guys played the Lower East Side so many times when I was up there full time, they were like everybodys favorite house band and packed them in every time they played. They always put on a helluva show. Wristcutters y'all!!
i believe that's the "adorable little Cainhoy parish" where in 1876 black republicans kicked the shite out of racist democrats, killing several and sending the rest fleeing to the boats back to charleston. it was part of a last ditch effort to save Reconstruction. alas, the good guys lost, paving the way for Tillman, Thurmond, Sanford and daughter. . . .
There are plenty of valid reasons to crowd fund a small retail business, and people do it on indiegogo all the time. Banks are hesitant to lend money to small unproven startups. You can't get credit from vendors until you've already been doing business with them for a while. And the SBA requires you to already have a lot of seed money before you can get a loan from them, plus they make you jump through a whole lot of hoops before they will consider your application. Additionally, the indiegogo campaign is not at all The Vinyl Countdown's only source of capital. It's simply a way to get the community involved and to offer perks to people (mainly family and friends) who visit the page in exchange for contributions. People like to feel involved and this is a good way to get people involved in the business before the store is open. It also is a way to attract attention from potential investors and business partners (which is exactly what it has done). Thank you for wishing us the best of luck. I hope it makes more sense now why we chose crowdfunding as one means of raising capital.
As for vinyl being a dead medium. Vinyl sales have gone from fewer than 1 million units sold in 2007 to over 9 million units sold in 2014. Secondly, sales of vinyl are up 54% in 2014 over 2013. Also, vinyl is the only musical format that has had increased sales over the last two years. CDs are dying out and going the way of the 8-track. Sales of digital downloads are down as well. Vinyl may be a dead medium to some people, but for many others, especially those of us who have never given up on vinyl as the format of choice, it is exciting to see the huge vinyl revival that is currently occurring.
Lastly, I checked out soulcamp's gofundme page and I would love to help out. I'm sad to see that you haven't had many contributions yet but I have a feeling you will see an uptick soon. I have already made a contribution and will share your gofundme site on my Facebook page. I think the program and what you are doing looks terrific and humbling. You're right when you imply that vinyl is not technically "important", at least not on the same level as what you are doing for the girls you will be reaching and helping with your program, but music (and music on vinyl) is a passion for many people and it does help to foster and facilitate a sense of community among musicians and music lovers. I would hope that, while you may not think vinyl itself is important, you would agree that music is an important part of life. Music has the power to bring people together from many disparate cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds and to act as a universal language unlike anything else I know of. As a professional music educator for the last 14 years, I have seen the positive impact music has had on the lives of hundreds of my students. I sincerely hope your program is successful and that you are able to get press for it if you want it.
The most fun your gonna have at the Music Farm in a long time! Music and an experience that just doesn't come to our town very much.
With the glut of "americana" and whatever other crap passes for original music these days... They are a breath of fresh air.
Maybe they will even come back later this year when they r on the road with Flogging Molly.
49.50 to start?
Go see gogol bordello !! http://www.gogolbordello.com/ Save some beer money and catch a band at the height of their skills. you won't be disappointed.
I loved the Pixies in 88 but well ...
Where is my mind? Perhaps Frank Black can help me find it. Will def be going to see these guys and will even spring for the better seats.
Truth 1, in defense of Kelly Rae Smith's release of the news of the Beck show, almost all major concert announcements have a specific release timing request by the promoter as to when the show is to be officially announced to the general public. Thus, the major local media outlets released the information at the same time (which you can easily see across the media landscape if you do a basic search). In fact, even Beck's own website didn't have the show listed as of the time of Kelly's post. No legitimate media outlet is going to risk getting taken off a the press release list by a promoter by releasing info prematurely. So your claim that it was announced everywhere "two days ago" seems absolutely baseless. So before you attack someone's integrity, why don't you get a clue on how the system works.
Truth1...why the hostility? . Chill.
Beck will be remembered long after Kanye is a small footnote in pop history.
Soy un perdedor.
Don't tell Kanye.
