This place turns into your typical loud, expensive "club" on saturday nights. No thanks
I have read thru many of the comments and find them rather suspicious. The mean spirited comments smack of being posted by disgruntled former employees or jealous competitors since the focus of the complaints are directed at the owners/hosts, not the food.I am a local and have eaten at Halls many times, for both business and family events. I do agree that the prices are high, but I have never walked away disappointed. The food and service have always been excellent. Depending on where you are seated, it can be a little noisy. I prefer the upstairs dining areas since they are more amenable to conversation.
I strongly disagree with the comments that state that locals stay away from Hall's. I live here and have never heard a single negative comment about the owners or the food. Since when is it "creepy" for a business owner to remember your name or to inquire if you were satisfied with your purchase? Charleston is a small town and part of its charm is that local businesses DO remember who you are. I have out-of-town friends who look forward to eating at Hall's and the hosts even remember their names. The food is amazing--try any of the steaks, but the tuna and salmon are wonderful, as well as the corn and brussels sprouts.
Is this EVERY Saturday, or only when they have a band playing. Or do they have bands? I can't imagine a cover fee just to eat or drink there. I usually go to the Chas. Grill in Northwoods. Can someone clarify this one?
My favorite place in Charleston. Seriously hands down awesome tacos and great margaritas.
This place on a Saturday is ridiculous. They charge 5$ cover fee to have to wait at the bar and get served like 20 mins later. Who does this 5$ go to? That stuck up little club promoter who thinks his stuff doesn't stink. GET RID OF THAT GUY!!! I will take my business elsewhere.
After spending a good deal of time and money at this restaurant, Halls finally showed us their true colors. Dont be fooled by their fake charm like we did. They need a security doorman at the front to handle the drunk unruly patrons who insult and fall over other customers. I felt like i was at a Biker Bar. The Halls and their staff are ineffective and inexperienced to deal with this. I have been to numerous steakhouses over the last 25 years and this would never occur there . Do yourself a favor, go to Oak and be treated properly and professionaly everytime, in addition to getting a much better quality meal.
Thanks for this amazing article. I hope you guys keep on giving us information like this.
Clipping Path service
Some of my steak tasted like it was bad. Manager never offered anything else or even apologized- just said it could be some propane from the gas grill. Like that's OK. Practically accused me of trying to weasel a free meal- which I never suggested, just reported the bad taste. Spend your money somewhere with better food, where your business will be appreciated. Embarrassed to be a local today!
The service was really poor...as if they were all new. Two of our entries were wrong. We were told to wait about 30 minutes to be seated inside. After 30 minutes we were called and told we had to eat outside anyway. The quality of the food was no better than a fast food restaurant. If we would have been told we had to sit outside in the beginning we wouldn't have waited. Don't waste your time going here. The photos on their web site were obviously photoshopped as well.
A bunch of friends and I ate there last night. It was a really bad dining experience. We entered at 845p. We left at 1215a. Dinner took 2:10 to come out. The waitress never once came over and asked us how we were doing, or offered us drinks. So overpriced. The bathrooms were filthy, ugh.
Posting again due to how appalled I am. I cannot reiterate enough that this place is dangerous. I've never once filed a lawsuit... Until today. When my wife and I go out, we assume we'll be treated kindly and with respect by any establishment. This place acted as though we were lucky to be there giving them out hard-earned money. I wish I could post pictures of the bodily damage their bouncers caused. Montreaux's does not need to be in business, and I highly encourage anyone reading this to not patron this establishment. The more I read about this place, the more I see this isn't a one-time occurrence. I wish I had known this prior to walking in last night.
This place is dangerous. I'm referring to the staff mainly. I'm not from Summerville, nor have I ever visited this establishment. I was thrown to the curb by bouncers bc a bartender told them to - I sipped an abandoned drink and actually tried to pay for it. I've never been tossed out of a bar, not do I have a history of unruly behavior. Not only was I tossed to the curb, I was tossed multiple times up and down the curb for pleading my case, which eventually led to a trip to the hospital - concussion and severe lacerations. A large black bouncer told me I was lucky he didn't get me because he would have beat the shit out of me. My phone and clothing were both destroyed as a result. I am filing a lawsuit against the place. I'm subpoenaing the video footage and also filing criminal charges. I was not intoxicated, nor was I causing any problems. The uneducated and quick-tempered staff on this place is going to get it shut down due to their actions and. DONT GO HERE...EVER!!!!!
Ordered take out wings last night from Wings and they had a problem with their credit card processing system. So they just kept swiping my card and eventually gave up and wrote up a manual slip. Lo and behold the next morning I had been charged 5 TIMES on my credit card. Definitely won't be using a credit card if I ever go there again! Now I have a huge mess to straighten out with them and my bank.
Be prepared to walk through a cloud of cigarette smoke as you enter. Seems they could put that out back.
Once the food was very good, now not so much.
Don't understand the negative review. I've been twice and everything was great. Fresh seafood which isn't always easy to find. Very attractive interior and exterior. GO there.
Gosh, Hillery. What a great, unabashed, and truthful assessment you have made for the place that employs you. We'll see if your unbiased review will help this place survive in the winter.
Ever wonder why the people around here hate those from New Jersey?
Spend some time with the owners of this place and you will know why.
I first went to Holy Cow in 2000. I knew little about yoga, the practice. Tracy, the owner, was the instructor. I've always been athletic, physically fit. I was a competitive, nationally ranked swimmer for years. I frequented local gyms (Trey's in West Ashley etc). Did the 45 min treadmill etc...never liked it, it was a chore.
The impact of that first class, physically, mentally and emotionally; changed my life forever. I'm not diligent with my yoga practice. Over the years, I'd go 3 times a week for months, then not for 6 month. Get back into it for a good while, then not go for 2 years. The things I learned however, stay with me everyday, whether I'm practicing at Holy Cow or not.
I've taken classes at several other yoga studios throughout the Charleston area. Nothing's ever come close to the experience, the "vibe" or energy that's never changed at Holy Cow. Holy Cow will always be the true essence, the core of yoga in Charleston.
Wow where do I start with this nightmare. I am a pretty easy going guy, rarely send food back or complain. It was a busy Friday night at Folly Beach but Snapper jacks wasn't too busy, we waited at the bar, had a good beer and were seated at the table in about 10 minutes. After about 20 minutes our drinks were about gone and we were curious where our waitress was, the hostess found her sitting at the next table next to us with friends, I had noticed her there when we sat down, she was there the entire 20 minutes and laughing with the friends I didn't think she was a waitress. The waitress, Lauren, came over and took our drink order, we ordered soon after and that's where the nightmare started. After about an hour we wondered what had happened to our food, there really wasn't many people eating in this place. About an hour 15 one plate came out, and it took another 15 minutes to get the rest. my chicken was paper thin, cold and dry as rubber, whatever the flatbread shrimp thing was was burned on the bottom and the Salmon was 1/2 inch wide and 3 inches long, for $18 REALLY!!, I have had bigger and better Salmon at Sams as a sampler. The only decent plate was the fried shrimp, tough to screw that up. I gave my plate back to Lauren the waitress and our friend returned the burned flatbread thing and asked for an appetizer which she got quick, it was only shrimp dip, pretty bland btw. The manager came over about 15 minutes later, his name was Jay, he did the typical manager "i'm sorry but I really don't care" routine and said he would look into why our food was so bad, so late and so separated in delivery, I didn't expect to see him again and I wasn't disappointed. So after the chicken and flatbread thing was removed we still owed almost $100 between 4 people, friggen insane for the night we had in that place. I have been in Charleston for almost 20 years and have never had such an experience. We will never go back there, and I tell everyone I know the same, I hope tourists read this and stay clear as well. Lauren find another job, maybe involving a pole, Jay I heard there's a opening at McDonalds, you're a poor excuse for a manager, you weren't that busy you couldn't take care of paying customers
It is an absolute shit hole. Now they have a "dress code"??!! A blue collar bar trying to b upscale. Tracy did sell the place but they kept her name? The only positive: a couple hot bartenders.
