Decent pizza, although it did not dethrone D's as the best pizza in Chraleston. Fast service, our pie came out super quickly. The space inside is nice but empty as we were the only patrons in the place.
Just FYI for anyone who heard otherwise: DeSano is NOT BYOB. You cannot bring beer, only wine (???). We found this out after showing up with our own beer. So be forewarned: it's BYOW, not BYOB.
Rather expensive for the amount of food but delicious. We are here 3-4 weeks a year and delight in trying new places to eat. The Grocery was a a real find and we will be back. My wife had the swordfish entree which was wonderful. Not that hungry I tried the soft shell crab small plate which was sitting on a bed of peppers and green with a vinegary dressing. A great choice.
In a very competitive restaurant town, they are creating food that cannot be found elsewhere in charleston. Very original flavors, great location, prompt service. This is a restaurant I can eat at a dozen times( and I have) and never order the same thing.
We recently visited Charleston for our 25th wedding anniversary. I had read the Trip Advisor reveiws and we made reservations for this fine restaurant. It far exceeded our expectations! The staff here was amazingly helpful and friendly, while still very professional. The food was impeccable! My husband had the whole fish and I got the chicken kabob. We also loved the pickled turnips. We are so glad we choose to eat at Leyla's.
The food is not bad but the food tends to sit much longer than it should on a well run buffet. The lady is nice and a good businesswoman. The old taliban looking guy is a bit grumpy and tactless when constantly trying to push beverages on people. All in all the food is middle of the road, not much to complain about especially for the price point, but home cooked indian food can be done up so much better. This place only seems great because it is the only option while Taste of India is a train wreck. If Bombay in N. Charleston wasn't constantly changing management or whatever other drama they have/had going on, I'd give them more of a try because some times their stuff has been super and sometimes it's B-rate.
Got takeaway from there the other night. Clearly, there is some Chinese and Thai influence on the menu to make it more suitable for American tastes, but it was all very good and the staff were sharp and on the ball.
Nirlep is the best Indian food in Charleston, it is the best Indian food in South Carolina, it is the best Indian food in America, it is the best Indian food in the world and the universe!
Some may say it is the best! But I say it is the best of the best!

My girlfriend and I recently returned to the USA after living in Hanoi. I formed an addiction to Vietnamese food while living overseas and have been consistently disappointed by the lack of authenticity of Vietnamese restaurants in the southeast. That is, until my first visit to Mi Xao. The pho bo is absolutely perfect, it truly makes me feel like I'm back in Vietnam. The owner, Toan, is a gentleman and is always incredibly friendly to us every time we come by. Mi Xao has become my favorite restaurant over the last few months and has been a huge help for me personally transitioning back to life in the USA! If you are thinking about stopping by, I can not recommend Mi Xao more!
This chef needs more recognition. He is equal to a lot of the top chef in Charleston. Please help build his reputation to the status it needs to be.

Bad food, bad service, zero ambiance. Every time I go here I regret it. Tattooed Moose Johns Island can't open soon enough.
Went to the Summerville location tonight and everything was very good. Attentive staff and everyone enjoyed the food. Will go back for sure!
DeAl's gets a lot of love and deservedly so. But every time I eat at Monza, I walk away satisfied and routinely ask myself the question "why don't I eat here more?"
For a break from the PBR culture --- and obviously a different style of pizza...head on over and try it out if you're new in town (or, if you're like I was a year or so ago and just haven't given it a chance yet.)
I would even go as far to say that this is probably the most underrated spot on Upper King and has been for some time now. The fare/atmosphere/what's on tap isn't sexy as the newer spots, but it's overall solid.
Don't let the busy nature of the place discourage you. Five Loaves has too good of a sandwich at too reasonable a price point to have it ruined by a bunch of tourist mouthbreathers and indecisive college kids blocking up the sidewalk and entrance. Shoo them away from the door like flies if you must, or glare at them in a threatening way. If push comes to shove, initiate a fist fight with the self-righteous guy from Maryland who doesn't understand why anyone would ever tell his busted wife to allow others to enter the restaurant. Whatever it takes to mark your territory. Or so I've heard.
Anyway, that's how good Five Loaves' sandwiches/salads/soups are. Don't take shit from non-locals and this place will be your bitch in no time.
I recommend the Pork Loin sandwich (formerly known as The Parker), the arugula salad with goat cheese/candied walnuts and the Ultimate BLT on croissant. Get everything on croissant. Can't go wrong with any of them.
The food in this place rocks! I was afraid to go to this place because of what I saw online. But my best friend kept saying that I needed to go. So I went and WOW! Crazy! Food was great and inexpensive and the atmosphere was terrific.
So, being the jerk that I am, I'd asked, why did they get so many bad reviews and then they pointed to me to all of the other sites that they were doing well on. I showed them the review about the Groupon and they said that in this business, you can only try to please everyone. Not everyone can be satisfied. Further, they noted that they are under new management and that they took over the business in 2013.
Lesson learned: Most people that enjoy a location would never take the time to write a good review... it is only those that have a bad experience that go out of their way to note it. So... I am going out of my way to write a review of my experience last night!
What a disgrace to our beautiful city. I hope others arent turned off by the rudest sales lady or perhaps owner. She was short with short dark hair. My 12 yr old daughter politely asked if the store was affiliated with the french eatery a few stores down and I couldnt believe her rude response..."of course not...why would you think such a thing"? It was the oddest and rudest tone of voice. She was so unpleasant that I felt somewhat sorry for her. Someone should teach this person some southern hospitality if she wants to do business here with her over priced under rated bakery items. We vacation in southern France and have never had rudeness like her. From the other comments she must be consistently one unhappy person who needs some business and cultural lessons!
Charleston is having more and more very expensive restaurants opening. The old ones need to heed the poor reviews and make changes. If one is going to spend over $200.00 (or more) for a meal, they deserve to get their money's worth. There are many places for half the price that are extraordinary in themselves, and with a good wait staff, will take over the overprices ones.
The only place in Charleston that serves real fried chicken.
Best seafood in the City of Charleston bar none.
