Finally got out here Saturday night......Damn!! Actually the best burgers I've had in Charleston and you've got to try the Sloppy Fries. Only glitch we had was wife insists her beef is destroyed and the color of shoe leather. When I told the server that she didn't like the Medium doneness, he apologized (unnecessary), took it back to the kitchen, returned with it shortly, apologized again and offered to replace it if it still wasn't right. It was perfect, the service, especially for a burger joint, was friendly and over-the-top the food was exceptional and, by comparison, if some of the prices charged for Downtown burgers are justified, then this place is the best bargain around.
In February we visited Big Gun Burger Shop and due to issues at checkout our card was charged 3 different times with the overcharge amount of 119.32.This amount cleared the first week of March. After multiple phone calls from my husband including emails with a transaction report sent to the owner we were told it would be fixed. However, we still have not recieved a refund for the amount. As great as the food may be I am disappointed with the owner for not fixing a simple mistake. Just beware and any future customers may just need to bring cash to guarantee they do not have the same issue.
Is their veggie burger good?
Tried Hom 3 times.
First time was good...Had the Hom Wrecker and fries(not included w/ burgers) and thought it was good, not great, and a bit pricey.
Went back a second time, had the 'Hombre', a chorizo burger, very good & unusual, kinda small, but on par with my first visit.
Third time was a total fiasco....Late afternoon, not busy, Ordered the 'Green Hornet'. It looked like a slider or kid's burger, TINY, on what appeared to be a dinner roll. Meat was mushy and fell apart. The chile slices were cold & flavorless. I could not see the blue cheese pimento or taste it, and the lettuce was wilted. Absolutely horrible.
The server asked "How is everything?...I responded, 'Not so good' and commented on my meal...small, no cheese. Server assured me cheese was there...and burger is a WHOLE 6 oz. Then said 'I'm sorry you're unhappy' and walked off. WOW!!! So much for customer service.
Considering I ordered onion rings which put me about $13 -14 in for a 'snack' and received little consideration...I won't be back, my companion was unhappy as well. Third time out...Not very good & expensive compared to portion size. I can think of 2 or 3 placed that serve a killer burger EVERY time, large(or at least good size) portions for less $$$. You charge $10 clams for a gourmet burger...it better be great.
Sorry HOM unacceptable.
Way overpriced for the amount of food. My family and I went last night for the second time and that will be the last. My son and I ordered off the Happy Hour menu. Now, I realized the burgers were $5 and would be smaller (3.5 oz), but the patty was so thin you could not even taste the meat. My husband had the Green Hornet off the regular menu. It was $9.50 for just the burger and it was not much more than a glorified slider. I think the burger was 5.5 oz? I don't care what kind of meat you are using, $9.50 (without anything else on the plate) should warrant a grown up size burger. Also, the patty was shaped like a meatball! Maybe so we did not realize the buns were tiny?
On the plus side, their sweet potato fries were amazing. I like the space, the service was good both times we went, and my son likes the ping pong tables. I am willing to pay $13 for a burger and fries, but it better knock my socks off because that is a hefty price to charge and you had better be able to back it up.
It would appear all of these reviews were written awhile ago right within the first few months of opening. I have to say Hom is now my favorite burger place in town. Not only that, it is now rocking the best brunch in Charleston. The burgers may seem smaller than average but they are packed with great ingredients that are rich in flavor and super filling. For those who shy away from beef, they offer a whole range of veggie options and an skewer of mini chicken sammies. They have the best shoestring fries and their smoked onion remoulade is orgasmic.
Their brunch includes burger benedicts and duck hash but by far the best dish is their Fried Chicken BLT. Served on Texas toast with fried chicken thigh, its the most delicious chicken sandwich in town.
My favorite burger place in town! Go for the "Spicy Southerner" YUM
Great food, great service and huge portions!
UPDATE: Here is an update to the previous zero stars review. Just for fun my brother and I rolled into a parking space directly in front of the entrance to Triangle in Mount Pleasant on a pair of Harley Davidson Road Kings. It was Saturday, October 13, 2012 at around 2pm. We stood at the front door waiting to be seated as the instructions on a sign suggested for at least five minutes without being greeted by anyone before deciding to finally just sit down at the first table on the patio directly across from the main entrance. I had already briefed my brother on what to expect at this place and actually had no expectation whatsoever of actually being able to order anything. I was simply there to prove a point to my doubting brother that Triangle has the absolute worst service and has done but get worse since opening day. Not surprisingly I was able to do so with no effort required thanks to the unrivaled and consistent uselessness of Triangle's totally oblivious staff. We sat at the table waiting for ten more minutes without ever being acknowledged as potential customers before hopping back on the motorcycles for a ride up to O'Brion's on Highway 41 during which we were laughing all the way about the blatant incompetence of Triangle management and employees. This time I will not make the vow to never return again simply because there are plenty of such days when a good laugh is needed to fulfill the soul. Definitely do not head to Triangle though if it is your thirst or hunger that needs satisfying. Triangle is for losers.
All you really need to know about Triangle is that it's for tourists. The prices are wrong for the type of food, the food itself is unimaginative, bland and often cooked poorly. The tacos are the one positive point on the menu. The out door area is nice, but it much more like a bar. Not the worst place, but I would never recommend it.
After experiencing repetitive bad experiences shortly after the initial opening of this Triangle location involving poor service, lousy food, and hot beer, I swore to never return again as long as I live. Well, the place has been operating for quite some time now and that fact in of itself is proof that miracles do sometimes happen. After some serious begging and arm twisting a friend coerced me to walk over and have a couple of beers and a bite on a Saturday afternoon around 4:30pm. Regretfully, I agreed under duress and we arrived just before “happy hour” to find the patio area vacant with the exception of two high top tables and some of the stools facing inside the bar. Glancing around, it was immediately evident that the available staff outnumbered the patrons, yet not a single Triangle employee ever acknowledged the presence of our party of two. Instead, the three females and one male comprising the bar staff continued the apparently never ending and not to be interrupted process of arranging things while socializing among themselves. After several unsuccessful attempts to gain the attention of a hostess, waitress, and a waiter seemingly assigned to the patio as punishment and sworn to an oath of silence or possibly just tasked with patrolling the premises to prevent theft of the outdoor furniture, I walked up to the bar to place an order. After standing several minutes with credit card visibly in hand for the purpose of opening a tab, one of the females finally came over to take my order consisting of one PBR and a Corona with a glass. Predictably both beers were warm and the glass was hot from the dishwasher despite the observable ongoing and overly focused display of proper bar preparation. By continuing both the trend of very poor service and the practice of rewarding thirsty guests with consistently hot beer since its grand opening, Triangle cannot ever be accused of not keeping with solid tradition. Cold, lousy food that gets colder while waiting for the silverware and a napkin to arrive is an added bonus for the extremely adventurous willing to beg for a menu from any of the woefully untrained and definitely unmanaged Triangle personnel who might wander within shouting distance. Needless to say there is not a single reason to expend the effort and funds required attempting to simply obtain a cold beer and perhaps a warm snack at the Mount Pleasant Triangle location. One can only attribute the crowds that occasionally congregate there to the fact that smoking is allowed all around the outer perimeter and the presence of a corn-hole toss game for popular entertainment. Sadly and quite disheartening is the undeniable truth that this same no stars review can be universally applied to many other Mount Pleasant establishments as well.
Consistenly good burgers and every topping you could imagine using Meyers Farm fresh ground beef (had to ask my gf what the name of the farm was). Been going there for the better part of 2 years. Ask them about the legendary beer dinners. Amazing beer selection that is always revolving. Awesome staff.
Don't let the name fool you! While they do have big, juicy, delicious burgers; they also have AMAZING & HUGE build your own salads. They have something for everyone!
The menu reads amazing, it just doesn't get executed. All of the burgers ordered by my party should have been delicious purely based on the description but turned out to be mediocre. Unfortunately the fries are the highlight. The atmosphere is a little lacking and the laminate floor makes it seem more like a cafeteria. If the food was good the atmosphere could be excused, but that's not the case. Our service on the other hand was very good. I think a shake up in the kitchen and perhaps a change in bread suppliers could make a big difference here.
Took half day off of work to check out this new place for lunch with a friend. When we arrived at 3pm on Tuesday, MARCH 13, there was a note on the door saying their FEBRUARY hours and they were CLOSED.
Sure would be nice if they knew what month it is and for their REAL hours to be posted on their site.
Now we'll never know if the food is good.
My wife and I have been about 3 times in the last year. Every time we have been there haven't been more than one or two at the bar and a few people eating. Not sure how they stay open. With that said the burgers were good and the beer okay. Would like to see a better selection of draft beer but all in all each time has been a good experience. I just wish they would clean and lighten the place up - it dosen't feel very clean. Could be that it has dark walls and furnishings.
This is the place to get great burgers and occasionally a beer. Every time I have gone my burgers have been great! The location is tucked away in a rundown shopping center, I drove past it 3 times before I actually found it. As far as the decor inside, its nothing great!! The decor is bland, bright lights in the dining area, fake flowers, cheap tablecloths, no pictures, no uniforms, and radio is always playing.
As far as the food goes, I don't care if I'm eating on a cheap tablecloth with fake flowers surrounding me, I'll eat there again and again. Now if I was going out for the night to grab some drinks with a few friends, I would go somewhere else.
I would really like to provide a review. Unfortunately when I stopped by with my wife last Sunday afternoon, the bartender was busy working the ladies sitting at the bar, and the only visible waitress was hanging out speaking with her friends. After 10 minutes of being ignored we left and went to Obrions for dinner...so much for Triangle...just too many places in the area to waste time with this.
My husband ordered the italian burger & he said it was very good. I asked for blue cheese & portobella cooked to no pink. It was served to me pink. I returned it and when they brought it back, they forgot my portobellas I originally asked for. I was over it at that point so I told the waiter just to deduct the mushrooms off the bill. He was very apologetic for the screw up. We both found the burgers to be greasy. The reg. fries were very good. Atmosphere was ok. Lots of high top tables with stools that don't look comfy to sit on. I will def. try it again.
I've gone three times in the past two weeks and every time I've left incredibly satisfied.
