Maybe they could use the (ooh, la la!) cabaret taxes to pay for a restroom trailer or 4-pack of porta-potties to park on Ann Street from, say 8pm-3am every Friday and Saturday, instead of adding nebulous duties for private security to patrol public streets. You could fit them in one parking spot, and cut down on the mentioned public urination problem. I of course don't remember EVER peeing in public back in my salad days of youth, no siree, Bob, but these young whippersnappers with their Red Bull and Jaeger-bombs have all that diuretic impact to deal with that us humble brew-swillers didn't.

Foodmancing, Thanks for stereotyping all door guys and bouncers. I work as a bouncer at a high frequency bar on King Street a few times a month for some extra income and because I do other business with the bar. I am highly college educated, have a normal size neck, and while I have been called many things in my life, 'goon' is not one of them.
Further, the other bouncers I work with are like me...have big boy jobs, families, and are upstanding members of the community. All of us have high education. In interest of being honest, one of our guys necks is a bit fat...however he would never be considered a 'goon.'
Oh, and $50 a night wouldn't get me off my couch.

Because there has never been a 'no-neck goon' cop. They all have masters degrees, eh foodmancing? derp. But I agree, it is a bad idea. If the city wants bouncers to police the streets, then they need to pay them to, not the bar owners.

Does anyone remember the Two Keys Tavern incident a few months ago? Telling Bar security they are responsible for policing the sidewalks and parking lots will end bad, period. With every bar in the city taking on security just think of the idiots that will suddenly be empowered for the first time in their more than likely pathetic life. Expect bloody beat downs and a spike in covered-up sexual assaults. Great Job gang

Because its a great idea to turn over enforcing order on the public sidewalks to a no-neck goon who dropped out of HS making $50 a night. Yea, no way that goes bad.

What is punk? An interesting question that will lead to hours and hours of debate, with the disciples of 80s West Coast Punk-D.C. Punk arguing for ascetic purity and self-flagellation while the lovers of 90s pop punk will argue that it largely comes down to which T-shirts at Hot Topic were the most popular. Nearly all will ignore that 70s punk was motivated more by poverty than anything else while the proto-punk of the late 60s was fueled by drugs and art house-shock theater pretentions; "punk" was not on their minds. Money and fame were.

And just in case anyone has forgotten, the Sex Pistols were a pre-fab band hand-selected by a fashion designer.

That last word is very problematic. Are these bouncers going to be able to use batons and truncheonst? CS gas? Tasers? How about leashed snarling dogs?

Police are a legitimate use of tax funds. And these businesses definitely pay taxes.

IDK, all for increased safety here.

But this ordinance stinks of the City Powers That Be tendency to sterilize King of any flavor or character.

Much of Lower King could be a minimall anywhere.

Upper King has a vibrant and diverse mix that attracts crowds. Silly me,I always thought sidewalks were for hanging out. And what about the buskers and street musicians? There were some on Upper King tonight. They add great vibes to the street scene. Will that be illegal too?

FWIW, Savannah and Asheville have great and much more street music and atmosphere in and around bars.

Charleston finally starts loosening up but noooo have to put the Smackdown on that!

The City won't be happy until all of King is the soulless wasteland that much of South of Calhoun is. All so Edna and Al Fannypack of Ohio can feel "safe" waddling up King.

I guess the City will just ban bars next and install a KOA campground instead.
