Re: “Thank you for my beautiful life

Alison. Thank you for your incredible gift of words and for always standing up for what you believe in, and trying to make the world a better place. It meant so much to me when you defended LGBT students and me when we were going against the bigotry of the SC legislature during the 'Fun Home' debate. You're an incredible woman and have impacted more people than you know. Thank you and we can only try to keep making the world a better place in your honor.

Re: “Thank you for my beautiful life

Alison, I don't know how you manage to top yourself every dang time, but you do - your writing is so clear, so beautiful, and so inspiring, much it would seem, like the lady whose zinely friendship I have valued for years. Thank you for the feminist t-shirts that Inky and I both wear with pride. You're a nifty number - always have been, always will be. Love to you (and your mother). Maybelles will ring.

Re: “Online survey seeks public input on plastic bags in Charleston

Th idea of banning the plastic bags to me is an excellent one based on the very fact that they are a pollutant . I try my best to keep reusable bags with me but, if the option of not using a plastic bag was in place I would get into a better habit of using my own bags .

Re: “Why we're switching to Facebook-verified member accounts

Sounds great Jack. Just doesn't match my experience when P&C did the exact same thing and their comment community (far more active than this one) simply went Poof.
It's a matter of some of our more famous, or perhaps infamous, posters going away. Time will tell. I expect, as with P&C, the discussion will move to the paper's FB page.

Re: “Why we're switching to Facebook-verified member accounts

driver eight,

That is the most ignorant statement, ever. Notice, this is a Facebook account. Took me all of 3 minutes to create one, without being "vetted". This FB move is going to motivate folks like myself, to actually troll; whereas before, we wouldn't waste our time.

Re: “Why we're switching to Facebook-verified member accounts

Jaxx- That's part of the reason for the switch too, but we've gotten a better handle on that the past few months.

And Jack- It's not quite that simple, but I wish it was! =)

Re: “Why we're switching to Facebook-verified member accounts

I assume the viability of the website sans a comment board has been considered. (?)
If you hoped to solve a troll problem, this FB move will do so by removing all potential trollees.

Re: “Why we're switching to Facebook-verified member accounts

Your bigger problem is hackers posting with fake accounts encouraging readers to earn $6000 a month online. js

Lost your nerve, eh? Too much cruise ship exhaust sort of fuzzying-up your thoughts? A final capitulation to everything that Southern Charm represents?

Pathetic.

Ima, Just trust me when I tell you that this is not about being "IT challenged" or "tech savvy," we're running up against the supported capabilities of our CMS.

If the column is accurate, I would have thought that the web editor would be a little more tech savvy.

Re: “Why we're switching to Facebook-verified member accounts

Like I said, thanks to all of y'all for participating in the comments over the years. (I suspect we'll continue to see many of you for years more to come.) We'll certainly miss some of the weird, unhinged banter that goes on down here. But personally, I won't miss the personal attacks, hateful language, circular bickering, and the threats enabled by easy-to-create anonymous accounts. That's not helping build our community. Like I said, it won't be perfect. Some people will continue to do whatever they can to hide behind bogus email addresses and fake accounts. But I guarantee there will be fewer threads that get hijacked by angry trolls trading anonymous ad hominem attacks.

Oh, snap! But I can't comment on my handle.

Just wait, we're all going to find out that CID_95 is actually a class of '97 guy, or that Pronghorn is actually an Ibex.

Re: “Why we're switching to Facebook-verified member accounts

Nooooooooo......all the good people that make this funny and a great read when I'm supposed to be working are going to be gone and only boring assholes remain. I like the funny assholes sooooooo much better. Will I have to be PC and watch my mouth now? That ain't happening, cause Imma have to be super jerkoff extraordinaire for the team now.

Re: “Why we're switching to Facebook-verified member accounts

Dear Sam,

You are obviously "IT Challenged". Let me fill you in on something; verified facebook? It's bullcrap. Nope, I'm not Jack Dawes; not hard to make a fake facebook -- IF you're not IT Challenged.

You should fire the person who suggested this. Obviously you attempted to do it so as to silence dissent. YOU FAILED.

Thank you for killing off the community.

Jackass.

Re: “Why we're switching to Facebook-verified member accounts

P&C used the same approach a few years back to eliminate their robust comment boards. I imagine the results will be much the same here. I'd stay and talk, but I suspect there will not be any consistent group to talk with.

Are these boards costly to operate?
