Re: “West Ashley bike lane narrowly survives City Council vote

Yes, Waring said, if I recall correctly, "Sometimes bikers just have to die." It was stated after he discussed car accidents happening before necessary measures being taken to address dangerous roads/intersections. I think he was saying it may take a terrible bike tragedy to get the community to fully support a bike lane. That said, we had already discussed the death of the doctor who was killed while trying to cross the Ashley on the James Island connector, so his point made no sense.

It was a ridiculous argument he was making while trying to rationalize his vote against the bike lane.

Re: “Charleston County Council will consider resolution opposing assault weapons

Browse my history and tell me where I've ever said I support the second amendment.

(hint: I didn't)

Do I think guns should be entirely outlawed? Not necessarily. Single and double shot long guns are probably fine for sportsmen. But preserving unlimited, unregulated private gun ownership? Public. Safety. Nuisance.

What kills me about you 2A dickheads is that you constantly harp on the sanctity of the Bill of Rights while simultaneously supporting the modification or abolition of other amendments (namely 1, 4, 6, 8, 15, 16) that do not protect your little toys.

Amendments are malleable and should be repealed and adjusted to suit modern times. You will not lead a successful insurrection with your arms in the 21st century. Period. Give it up.

I do support stringent regulation of high capacity weapons, high rate-of-fire weapons, and highly concealable weapons. Namely anything semiautomatic, and all handguns.

Will this end gun violence completely? No. But it can mitigate the damage done in the blink of an eye.

In the meantime, I just hope that you defy statistics and avoid killing yourself or your family members with your home defense weapons.

Can anyone confirm or give context for this alleged Keith Waring quote: "Sometimes bikers have to die"?

ncspartan, why you so (h)angry? Geez, someone new trying something new that isnt a corporate/chain restaurant? Everyone deserves a chance. If it's not for you, then it's not for you. Good thing 'it takes all kinds'; I found the brisket absolutely delightful.

" A few institutions with deep historical ties to the white supremacy (Coastal Community Foundation, Boeing, MUSC)..."

This is the sort of nonsense that makes further statements from you ineligible for serious consideration.

Re: “Charleston County Council will consider resolution opposing assault weapons

Pronghorn is right to ask about the off-duty but in-uniform cop that was on duty at the Orlando club. He certainly had his duty pistol with him. The reporting never explains exactly what happened with him except he was outside and the terrorist was inside.

Lee - I am glad to see the left is finally dropping all the disingenuous "we support the 2nd Amendment, but..." nonsense. That's intellectually honest, finally. Better late than never. I am sure that, in time, the 1st and 4th Amendments and other civil liberties will be added to the list of rights which are also just too dangerous for Americans citizens to have. Onward, comrade!

Your self-awareness and calm introspection at this point in life, one we will all reach sooner or later in one form or another, is admirable. I hope for the best outcome for you and your family.

Re: “New York Times' recent story "36 Hours In Charleston" was largely written in 2013

As an avid reader of the Times and a lobg time resident of Charleston, I find your article to be as valueable as the tweets from kardashians that teens fawn over. You should have spent your time focused on a new culinary explosion somewhere or maybe a story on how the president is enabling the violence against cops in our country.

Re: “Stegelin: Donald Trump's first choice for VP

If you are, have or know of anyone in your family that is a member of the LGBT community, a Muslim, an hispanic, etc, a vote for this pair would indicate you care more for bombastic behavior than than you care for you or your own family. This pair will destroy pluralistic (multiple faith/ no faith) freedoms and will actively work to "christianize" this country into a virtual theocracy. We were almost there with the old "Blue Laws" where your only choices for something to do on Sunday morning was go to church or sit home because those religious "blue laws" had the state on lockdown all day. These oppressive laws are still in place in rural communities but pluralistic cities have dropped them in favor of REAL freedoms. Everyone gets to now enjoy freedom. Those who prefer to go to church and take their "day of rest" are free to do that. Those who prefer to shop or dine out are free to do that. And "Blue Laws" not withstanding, those who prefer to engage only in opposite-sex relationships and marriages are free to do that. Those who prefer to engage in same-sex relationships and marriage are free to do that. Those who prefer to worship on Saturday are free to do that. Those who prefer to pray privately are free to do that. Those who prefer not to pray are free to do that. Women who prefer to control their health are free to do that - almost. Women who want government to control their health are free to do that. But these freedoms are out the door if this pair become leaders of the free world with a finger on the "Button".

Re: “Charleston can't handle an influx of new residents

Sonia Faye, not sure if you know it, but Charleston has been under Democrat government for the last 40 years, so you can stop blaming everything on the other party. They are the ones allowing the growth in Charleston, your party.

Re: “Lamb ribs and tagliatelle shine at Butcher & Bee's dinner service

"The smoked crispy potatoes ($10) were up next and were initially off-putting and too smoky. That is until I realized there was an avocado-lime chimichurri sauce beneath the potatoes. When enjoyed together the avocado provided a great equalizer to the strong flavor, each bite a satisfying crunch with subtle hints of lime."

In your opinion, was this an adequate substitute for delicious fries?

Re: “This is Charleston's opportunity to lead by example — once again

I may not be aware of all of the "positive steps forward" that were taken after Emanuel. Please enlighten. A few institutions with deep historical ties to the white supremacy (Coastal Community Foundation, Boeing, MUSC) imported some high profile black people. But beyond that?
