Re: “The Agenda: State will defend gay marriage ban; 'Nuisance flooding' way up; 21% of state on Social Security

And, of course, the financially Conservative administration in Columbia will throw more money at a legal battle that has been already defeated. Thank God they don't waste money on useless causes like those damned Liberals!

Re: “Vincent Sheheen campaign manager: Candidate non-committal about gay marriage ruling

No, he doesn't need their votes. Statistically, they are an anomaly. But he does need the votes of their bleeding heart liberal supporters and the bully press, many of whom are gay in one form or another. LGBT's represent a market segment the press and many businesses cannot afford to ignore. It's all about the almighty $$. Only time will time if Sheheen can win without them. After all, Haley did.

Re: “Meet Latta Police Chief Crystal Moore next Wednesday

Streetlaw,

There was a referendum. The people voted to change the form of government from strong mayor to weak mayor.

Re: “City to propose 3-year ban on bars

How are they going to define "bar?" Any establishment that wants to apply for a liquor license?

Just out of curiosity... How many people who took the time to leave a comment actually listened to the audio clip or heard the exchange live during the call?

Re: “Meet Latta Police Chief Crystal Moore next Wednesday

The 'good' people of Latta were probably intimidated by the bully press to take the action they did. How could they change the form of government without a referendum? How about a little background on the council members.

"Unfortunately the little guys don't understand that were it not for the big guys making the decision to take the risk to grow, expand and innovate that they wouldn't have the opportunity to work to keep the company profitable"

This isn't a chicken or the egg situation. Both are needed to make a successful company and both require mutual respect.

Re: “Vincent Sheheen campaign manager: Candidate non-committal about gay marriage ruling

Even if he wanted to hedge on it "personally," he could have taken a cue from the State AG of North Carolina that has seen the writing on the federal circuit wall that the legal fight to preserve the state bans on gay marriage is pretty much a lost cause.

Re: “Vincent Sheheen campaign manager: Candidate non-committal about gay marriage ruling

speaking of morons..... Sheheen has a slim chance of winning since Democrats are in the minority in SC. If he were to make a commitment to the GLBT sector, that would eliminate any chance of attracting a huge portion of the Republican vote he needs to swing. He's being pragmatic, he's being smart. Stop being so self-centered and short-sighted. By far the most important issue for his supporters right now is to simply get him elected.
I've always thought the reason Republicans have such a choke-hold on SC is because their leadership believes most of their constituency is either too stupid or too intellectually lazy to believe anything other than the party line, and mostly I've thought those constituents proven me right. Unfortunately if Sheheen loses the support of pro-GLBT voters because of this issue, it's not just the Republican base that is stupid.

Sheheen is a self-serving duplicitous charlatan. Write in Gilda Cobb-Hunter! She was with us LONG before most others.

Re: “Vincent Sheheen campaign manager: Candidate non-committal about gay marriage ruling

Sheheen is a pandering moron just like the pandering moron that is in office right now. I wouldn't expect any significant changes no matter who wins the Gov's office, Hugh Leatherman runs the state now anyway.

I honestly didn't think I could be more disappointed by Sheheen as a candidate. This week has proven I was wrong.

Re: “City to propose 3-year ban on bars

I don't think the desired mix of retail can be maintained in an economy where I and everyone else spends a lot of our money on Amazon. Everyone in Charleston lives for the past but the King Street of 30 years ago featured a lot of empty storefronts. Side streets like John were deserted. There were plenty of empty storefronts on East Bay and Market at the time as well. The city would do better promoting other uses like the Woolfe Street Playhouse and Pure Theater using the hospitality taxes the bars generate. I grew up shopping at Condons and Kerrisons and having lunch at the Woolworth's Lunch counter, but that world is gone. Like cotton, rice and slavery, it isn't coming back. Our need to earn a living, pay rent and pay taxes is as valid as that of the people buried up in Magnolia Cemetary and we're not obligated to accomplish that the way our parents did, particularly when we can't. Charleston needs to sell the past, not live in it. Unlike the Plantation owners of 160 years ago, we have to work to make our money and like them, it's dangerious to ignore reality when the economy is changing. Cities sell experiences and ideas now. Websites sell socks and cameras.

Re: “Torch shuts its doors and makes way for new concept

They best step it up and get in under the moratorium then. Hahahaha, jimbeauxisland is spot on. In NYC this has been a big thing for a few years now. It has become very amusing and a source of countless jokes to most everyone. I think I am going to start ordering boilermakers to upset the esteemed mixologists. Wonder what a mixologist would call a boilermaker?
