Re: “With or without King Dusko, King Street was never a music hub

Hi Dick Cooler: I never insulted King Dusko or denied their contribution to the music community. But they didn't make King St. a music hub. You'd have to have several King Duskos on the street for that to happen. And how was I biased when I pointed out that the music community is far more diverse than it was ten years ago, when we did not have multiple venues all over town serving the hip-hop, punk, and metal fans and not just catering to the acoustic covers crowd the city is saturated with. If you think about it I think you'll find we're actually saying the same thing and are on the same side. My taste is extremely diverse, which is why they let me be a music editor. If you've paid attention to what we write about every week, you'd see that.

Mat - If music is overrated it'd be great if you could stop trolling the music section. Your comments are neither cute nor clever.

Somehow my choices for educational opportunities offered to everyone, somehow impacts you? How so? Is this like the way you say others choices about marriage somehow effect your marriage?

Re: “Prayer, fasting could have prevented Emanuel 9 tragedy, according to group's teachings

Are you kidding me ? You pray for someone before they die here, prayers will not help anyone who has now died in this life. Nor Fasting . When you look around in this society, you see what man has done to corrupt it and turned away from God .Even our president has sided and supported that which God condemns. And so has society in general. I suppose we have forgotten what God did to Sodom and those other 4 Cities of the plains.

Re: “Where to plan your fantasy football draft party in Charleston

I once went to a bar during one of these draft parties. I've seen less homoerotic behavior at Pantheon.

Re: “Stegelin: A look at Bernie Sanders

You whacked out conservatives are so pathetic you can't even laugh at yourself. That is why it is impossible to have a rational discussion with conservatives. Misinformed, dishonest and intolerant of any position that does not match lock step with what you are told to believe, that is the sad state of conservatives in this country and why you are all so pissed off all of the time.

Re: “A coffee cretin gets schooled at the Counter Culture training center

Dunkin...the finest of all coffee. A rich deep "arresting" aroma, almost a blue tint to the fine oily top and always accompanied by H. Simpson's Breakfast of Champions choice. Slurping? Puh-lease, the CCPD's been doing that for years with Dunkin.

Re: “With or without King Dusko, King Street was never a music hub

Very biased article. DUSKO did a lot for the underground music scene(hardcore, pop punk,punk,metal,noise...etc) there aren't a lot of venues that will let shows like that be booked, because it doesn't catch the general publics attention. But for us punk, hardcore & metal kids it was a fantastic venue. Also I'm pretty sure the owner is opening up a new venue. And yeah in my opinion dusko did make that part of King a music hub. Same with joe pasta. (Dusko, joes pasta, music farm, occasionally big gun).

Aptly named, as the idiots who attend/fund SeaCult are definitely sheep.

I had a girlfriend that somehow got caught up in that nonsense, and all was lost.

You whacked out leftists are so pathetic you can't even laugh at yourself. That is why it is impossible to have a rational discussion with liberals. Misinformed, dishonest and intolerant of any position that does not match lock step with what you are told to believe, that is the sad state of liberals in this country and why you are all so pissed off all of the time.

"You don't necessarily need a choice of 23 underarm spray deodorants or of 18 different pairs of sneakers when children are hungry in this country." Bernie Sanders showing his twisted beliefs about economics. The politics of greed and envy, you can't be successful on your own so you have to take from people that are. Or as you leftists like to put it, level the playing field. Everybody gets a trophy is all well and good but then the trophy is only worth something to the people making them.

Look in the mirror, make a stupid face and laugh at yourself every so often. Sometimes a joke is just a joke.

J Chapa - To be fair to Manny, we've had a discussion elsewhere today and we now both know where the other is coming from. Thank you for piping in, though:)

Re: “With or without King Dusko, King Street was never a music hub

Hey JobyD - I see your point, and thanks for chiming into the discussion. I'm not necessarily insinuating that those venues aren't part of King Street culture. I'm just pointing out that while there are no venues like King Dusko on King that host original music as their focus on an almost daily basis, there are other places downtown that ARE welcoming to locals, albeit not so often that we could consider King a hub/oasis/what have you. Redux focuses on art, but they like to host local shows. Wolfe St. is mostly theater but have begun to host local shows. MF and CMH both cater more to big, national acts, but are notably attentive to good, original, diverse local music, too. They're worth noting and deserve shout outs for their efforts to be inclusive, but for King to be a true HUB it would have to have more than one venue like Dusko, whose focus is mainly music. And since the discussion if focused on the more touristy parts of King, I hardly think Rec Room is contained within that, despite its King Street address.
