My experience has been that keeping your drink in a plastic cup (or other discreet container) pretty much guarantees you won't have issue with the IOP cops. I am not sure about Folly, but I assume it would be similar there.

I love the high-end rums, but could never turn my back on bourbon. I will echo the Clarey's post. That place is about as good as it gets for high-end rum and bourbon selection.

Hey, if some of you ban folks want to sell your houses on the cheap, I'm interested in putting some money into some beach property. You shits rent out these places anyway, so why do you care if we have a few brews on the beach? I'd personally like to vote out those guys who took the vote away from those who wanted to make a decision based on law. Maybe we can get some folks in there who care about Bert and merchants like him. Next time a bus full of idiots come calling and make a scene, how about arresting the first 12 or so, and then we won't have a problem.

Just like idiotic zero tolerance gun policies throwing kids out of school for anything gun related - tshirts, pictures, little boys playing cowboys & indians, etc. etc. A real gun, yes! I personally like to sit on the beach and enjoy a cool one, and would never have an exposed can or bottle. But, if I do what I do while downtown Chas., I simply fill empty Mt. Dew or Coke 1/2 liter bottles all the way to the top, and they work out fine and don't lose their fizz. I also put vino in the same empty containers. Have never been approached by a cop yet, but now I guess the word is out, and I'll have to think up something else.

More racist & hypocritical bullshit from the left. This is what Obama has brought us - anti-anything Christian and/or white, while enabling and advocating anything non-white & non-Christian.
Our DOJ gives amnesty to Muslim families not in danger in their home countries and our gubment gives them all sorts of public assistance, yet refuses to help a white Christian family from Germany that will have their children taken away if sent back to Germany.

The problems in the mostly minority schools have been going on for years, and the staffs at these schools refuse to do anything. Well, let's see some rather large lawsuits be settled in favor of the plaintiffs. I doubt there will be any changes made in the administration, but some kids might receive enough money to go to college.

Most rational people also consider a house, a car, food, clothes, and other items necessities that we need every day, unlike healthcare, which for most is rarely used at all. Yet no one is telling the providers of those other necessities what they can and can not charge.
Healthcare is expensive because the gubment has been screwing with insurance for decades. Same with college tuition. Anytime the gubment gets involved, prices skyrocket. Back in the day - pre-1990s - health insurance was largely used for hospital stays and major emergencies. Typical doctor visits were paid via cash out of pocket. Prices started skyrocketing when insurance started being used to cover everything, including preventative care. Same with dental care & eye glasses. They were much cheaper before insurance got involved.
Once someone else starts paying the bills customers stop caring how much it costs. There is no more market incentive to help hold prices down.
Same with college costs. As soon as loads of easily obtainable, low interest student loans from the gubment became available college tuition skyrocketed. My entire 4 years at Clemson (1984-1988) - tuition, room, board, books - EVERYTHING - cost around $20,000. Today one year at Clemson as an in-state student costs more than my 4 years!!! That's 400+% inflation in only 25 years! That's insane.

I had many friends work their way through school, but that's nearly impossible now! My 1st car was a (new) Nissan Stanza bought in 1983, one year before I went to college. It cost a little over $10,000. Today you can but many cars far nicer than my '83 Stanza for not much more than $10,000. Yet college tuition has gone up in less time over 400%. Again - INSANE!! Why? Because the gubment is subsidizing it. Same as medical insurance. Yet basic cars have gotten far better, far safer, much more technically advanced yet only moderately more expensive.
The surest way to create asinine inflation is with government subsidies. The gubment isn't helping anyone with subsidies of ANY kind!! Subsidies hurt infinitely more than they help and they come with higher taxes and huge gubment bureaucracies to manage them. And once start become almost impossible to end.
Once again, it's the gubment "saying" they want to "help" but all it does is expand the size, scope, cost, and influence of gubment while taking more money out the pockets of hard working folks. The ONLY winner is gubment and supporters of more & bigger gubment!!
Want healthcare costs to drop and service/quality to go up? Go back to cash for services rendered for MOST medical expenses and return insurance to its intended purpose - hospital, emergency, major medical, & catastrophic care!!

Hasn't the CP heard that the skate park will NOT be located under SCDOT roadways. I applaud the risk of the developers building in this location, but really it is inevitable...Small retail is being pushed out of Upper King St, upstart bars & restaurants who cannot afford to run with the big dogs on King are pushing into the surrounding residential neighborhoods to the West(Cannonborough-Elliotborough), diminishing livability. This makes long time residents, especially families(read 'homeowners' not renters) want to move and rent their homes to the multitude of college students sporting Daddy's checkbook. Charleston ain't quaint anymore. Too bad the City doesn't value recently turned neighborhoods and the residents that changed them. Instead they pursue a more profitable tax base regardless of what residents want. Make business' happy. Make tourists happy. Ignore your own residents. Thanks Joe.

It's a shame they are covering the exterior in red brick rather than keeping the cool-grey look though. Downtown Charleston needs more "modern" buildings (like Cool Below) which utilize more concrete, steel and glass. Also, lost in any of these discussions about new developments is the lack of LEED certification requirements. If the City of Charleston really wants to promote sustainable living (which I am skeptical of, in spite of all the talk about local food and bike/pedestrian friendly streetscapes), then Tim Keane and the Planning Department need to require all new hotels and apartments achieve certain design standards. It's no secret that buildings are one of the largest contributors to carbon emissions, and with all the "green" options available today, why would the City accept anything less than the Gold standard? Growth is coming no matter what and the City is clearly willing to allow developers to reap big profits (while placing even larger burdens on the local infrastructure), so the least we can expect is for these projects to be well planned and forward thinking.
