Re: “Duke prof posts racially inflammatory comment on NY Times story

The plural of anecdote is not data.

Generation poverty is a direct result of centuries of subjugation, disproportionate sentencing and institutional discrimination.

Re: “Why was Under Armour's Iwo Jima parody so offensive?

You know, I had actually written a 4,000 word article on this very topic, complete with heartfelt testimonials from over two dozen individuals, including WWII vets, avid basketball players (a quarter of which have played at the college and/or pro level), and Watson the Jeopardy-winning supercomputer. But I know you guys wouldn't read it, so I went for a pithy blog post that no one would mistake for, you know, a 4,000 word article.

Trust me. I'm always thinking about you guys.

Re: “Why was Under Armour's Iwo Jima parody so offensive?

Silly Ron, didn't you know only conservatives can determine what is offensive and what is not?

Minority? Stop being so sensitive, we have a black president so racism is over. Woman? We let you vote and leave the home to work, stop whining and promoting misandry.

A subtle play on an iconic image of soldiers? THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS AND AN ABOMINATION. Happy Holidays? I'M A CHRISTIAN GODDAMN IT, STOP YOUR WAR ON CHRISTMAS.

See? Simple.

Re: “New 'Survivor' contestant John Rocker still spewing racist BS as a columnist

The guy is awesome! Really... I mean it's not like black people or hispanics or whatever aren't racist - that doesn't justify racism of white people and it just sucks that blacks get shot down by police for no reason... but still... it's not like everything the guy says is total bullcrap!

Re: “James Island Town Hall

Why doesn't this site have a listing of problems people have and who they call to resolve them? I need to know who to contact about installing a culvert so I may construct a driveway to my property. Also, to whom do I speak about missing street signs? Minor issues such as these could be listed without having to tie up personnel in the office. Giving a list of nearby restaurants doesn't seem the primary business of the Town.

Re: “Duke prof posts racially inflammatory comment on NY Times story

Im not buying into the argument that because black people were so horribly treated, they are now unable to step up & make progress. I'm 63 years old, living most of my life in a nothern city. I've had loads of years interacting with black people. My family are mostly educators. The consensus is, that many blacks don't have a family unit, many have no interest in learnng & many are not interested in intergrating. Another point, why were so many holocaust survivors & their offspring able to do so well? As for Hough's comments about asian americans; I worked with a Cambodian man for 23 years. He, his wife & 3 month son hid in the jungle for 3 months after seeing their family & village slaughtered by the Khmer Rouge! That family all have good jobs, own homes, nice vehicles as well naming their bi-racial grandkids american names. Stop with this idealogical bs & talk from experince!
By the way, i volunteered for 2 years tutoring innercity youth. My hope was to help them at an early age see that they can better themselves throigh learning. Un fortunately the mother or grandmother saw my efforts as a babysitter!

Re: “Ride of Silence bike event gets nearly 600 RSVPs

About 2 dozen of them missed the cancellation message and showed up anyway. My dog and I are regular walkers on the paved path inside Hampton Park. We were forced to show courtesy to asshole cyclists. I stepped off the path for four of them to ride past. The old lady with her collie ten feet behind me stepped off the path for them. They didn't acknowledge our politeness, noblesse oblige and all.
WTF!?! What do these creeps want? They've got a dedicated lane of Mary Murray Drive and they're on the walking path?
I have a bike and I ride it, but I detest this crowd. They took up parking places at Hampton Park so they could make some kind of point about not driving cars. Idiots. As long as you're leaving a car anywhere except in your own off-street driveway, you're the problem.

Re: “The Agenda: Police to scale back military gear; School board member says sup't search tainted; Progress on I-526?

"saying that if he knew the intelligence that took us to the brink was faulty, that he "would have reconfigured.""

He can't blame faulty intelligence when Bush and Cheney cherry picked the intelligence they wanted. They chose faulty intelligence on purpose to justify their war. And they stood on the backs of the victims of 9/11 to peddle their lies.

Graham is trying to scapegoat the intelligence community who said all along that Saddam did not have nukes. That the yellow cake story was crap. That Mohammad Atta never met with Iraqi intelligence in Prague. That the aluminum tubes were not intending for nuclear weapons development. The Downing Street memos detail the British conclusion that the US was full of shit and had already decided to go to war.

Graham needs to admit that the faulty intelligence was chosen on purpose to justify the war and explain why that will never happen if he is in the Oval Office.

Re: “Ride of Silence bike event gets nearly 600 RSVPs

"Almost 600 people have said on Facebook that they will attend"

People pointlessly clicking a button on a pointless website must mean something. Can we please, as a society, stop pretending what people do on Facebook and Twitter is real news?

You're better than this, Paul Bowers.

I guarantee the people who are offended by this are also the same people who complain about political correctness when someone suggests treating certain demographics with more respect and equity.

Re: “Bernie Sanders doesn't have a chance, but we need him in the race

"Psst. Barack Obama was not a no name. He was a Democratic star from the moment he gave his speech at the 2004 Democratic Convention. He was also young, handsome, poised, confident, and, yes, black." -chrishaire

First of all, Hillary is none of those things, either. And secondly, Obama was a first term Senator with 1 speech to his name. He was a nobody. It wasn't until Oprah came to Columbia that anyone in SC took him seriously.

Hillary has no chance to win a national election. Her unfavorables are as high as her favorables. We better hope that Bernie can pull a Barack on the coronation of Hillary. I love me some Bernie.

Aside from the dynasty factor, her vote for war in Iraq, her love of Wall Street, and her history of lies, the most damning fact about Hillary is that she treats her service people poorly. She's a diva. I would stay home if Hillary ran against the devil. (Which appears likely).

Re: “Bernie Sanders doesn't have a chance, but we need him in the race

The sad fact is that Bernie Sanders is probably better for the US than any other candidate, but falls victim to the vacuum of corporate dollars afforded other candidates.

The US has legalized corporate bribery, and we are now reaping the benefits.

Re: “Bernie Sanders doesn't have a chance, but we need him in the race

Ever hear of a self fulfilling prophesy? If you support Bernie, it does no one any good to go around telling people it's impossible for him to win. It's not impossible.

This sort of negative thinking is exactly what keeps the establishment in power.

Re: “Southern Charm S2 E10: The Tragedy of T-Rav

Whitney. He is an embarrassment to himself, and to his mother. Oh yes, he was involved in a documentary about Halston - wo he did not know anything about before hand - that got some good reviews... years ago... and... this elegant TV show with all his classy friends, the disgraced politician who I think Whitney is in love with, the goofy Shep, the poor law student, and a gaggle of girls with nothing better to do. Why did Patricia move south from NYC? Whitney reminds me of an only child (he is) who is adulated by his parent (he is) who then has to socialize with grubby kids his own age, so out of shyness and feelings of inadequacy, he acts like he is the coolest kid on earth and is mean to everyone. He is a bitch. He is useless. He is a mommy's boy supported by mommy beholden to mommy. He is also gay. Obvious. He is in love with Thomas, which is why he sometimes wants to hurt Thomas, because Thomas hurts him by not loving him, or even realizing that Whitney loves him. And he is jealous of Craig. And probably wants Craig. Shep is not his type.
And the elegant Patricia - so glamorous she hangs out with her gay son's friends at their silly parties. She reminds me of Tinsley Mortimor's mother, who also embarrassed herself going on their spoiled child's reality tv show.
