The Peddlers license requirement was enacted IN RESPONSE to unruly juveniles stealing palmettos (and damaging people's trees), their threatening behavior to get people to buy their palmetto roses, and other problems.
It may be too bad that some "bad eggs" made things harder on their well-behaved fellow peddlers, but the response was warranted.
I suggest all the complainers that have recently arrived "from off" do some research in the City Paper and Post and Courier archives if they deny that many peddlers were a public problem!
Over the years going here, consistently great soups, with a daily choice .. Sandwiches are very good to excellent. Very good value. Nice people serving.
"Local at heart girl". Nice, that's what Yankees say
"mat, let me type slower so you can keep up"
I'm monitoring your keystrokes, and you're not typing slower.
Called ahead for a take out order of Taco's and got there 25 min later, and I was told there was a mix up on orders and the food would be cooked on the "fly"...well 20 more minutes later I get my food order, tacos were cold and they served a cup of ketchup with them - go figure. Scratch could learn a lot from Chipotle...
Check the Police reports from this Summer and you find arrest reports from the Aquarium where they arrested one of the Palmetto Rose thugs who had a hand gun on him and the other kid had a knife with a 8 inch blade...even worse several of them use the Rose Project to sell drugs around town. Wake up Charleston Police and do your job!
So why they dont approach the panhandlers who i see everyday comimg off 526 with a sign not a dam license collecting and solicitating money from others guess thats legal in the city of charleston cause they dont get dispatch to that location and others in chas where i see majority whites holding these sign asking for money not a dam job but they ride by like they dont c them dam kind. Guess thats what the juvenilles bettsr start doing since its legal in their eyesights. Cant even make a honest dollar these days and for a kid trying to actually trying to do the right thing in life thats real pittyful froñ depriving him in that nature we got bigger problems to deal with then arresting someone for making a honest living at a early age. So
The ones talking im going to see how many they arrest at the end of 526 who dont even have permits but out there everyday collecting and the officers ride by then that will tell the story of whats really going
The weather here sucks balls.
The Carnival Corporation benefits from the absence of regulation and goes as far as ignoring passenger safety in the interest of pursuing profits. There is no doubt that the cruise industry needs to abide by limits and standards. One such limit is that a cruise line not be allowed to board passengers and sail into a hurricane. On October 27, 2012, the Caribbean Princess, owned by Carnival, boarded passengers in Red Hook, Brooklyn and sailed into Hurricane Sandy. Voyage B 237 could not sail north, south or east and avoid the super storm. Passengers were given the cruel choice: Lose your money or risk your lives. Why was this allowed? For the same reason that Carnival's mega ships release toxic discharges into Charleston's air and waters -- because of lack of regulation. People who are thinking of booking a cruise should boycott ships owned by Carnival. Citizens should vote for candidates who are willing to enact laws to prevent abuses by cruise lines and cruise ships.
mat, let me type slower so you can keep up, it is a very consistent narrative. America is a great country founded by individuals that espoused freedom, democracy, and capitalism. America is the greatest country ever, period, bar none. Democracy & capitalism have done more good than all other systems combined. America became great long before big gubment and taxes. But things have changed and America is on the decline and the speed of this decline is directly correlated to the growth of the federal government and the acceptance and use of leftist social policy and central planning. Communism has killed hundreds of millions and is devoid of morality and human rights. Socialism is a failure as well and has only work for relatively short periods in tiny countries with incredibly homogenous cultures. These are undeniable truths that idiots on the let refuse to accept. Or you privately accept it but deny publicly because you are a radical leftist and closeted communist.
mat, I might respect you some if you stopped being so intellectually dishonest and admit that you are a radical socialist and have deep rooted communist sympathies.
So, we're a success, but we're circling the bowl?
Make up your mind, Ned. Are we a failed nation, as you've claimed at various points in your ignominious career as the worst troll ever in these forums, or are we a great nation?
For once, please....pick a narrative and stick to it.
And this goes for any of you, really. You're a bunch of bleeding-heart weirdos crying out "freedom! liberty! tyranny! bleargh!" over and over and over again when you get your precious feelings of entitlement hurt by some liberal conspiracy to take away your right to watch horse porn and eat sticks of butter dipped in sour cream while drinking bleach and then you turn into outright apologists for the police and the power of the state to regulate commerce when, gasp, it involves a poor person (especially the non-white ones).
It's a tired act, dude. Hopefully 2014 will see you either outgrow it or just take it to fucking wordpress so the rest of us can completely ignore it.
Aw yes, comrades mat & hamilton to the rescue and as usual bashing the community they live in. This kid, like Trayvon Martin, got himself into that pickle. The cop simply wanted to investigate and talk to the kid. The kids attitude & behavior got him arrested. If I were a vendor downtown I would call the cops myself if I thought others were operating without a license.
mat, America is the greatest success yet of mankind, but communists like you and union lover comrade hamilton are the ones pushing the failed policies. One day you idiots will accept reality, but by then America will be one big Greece or Detroit.
The whole problem I see with this is THE CITY OF CHARLESTON statues, codes and regulations. That's right statues, codes and regulations are not LAWS if they go against your rights that are protected by the constitution for the United States of America. READ THE BILL OF RIGHTS. there is no man or entity that can deprive you or any one. man, woman or child of there rights to make a living to feed themselves. I ask this question WHAT WAS THE CRIME THAT WAS BEING COMMITTED ? according to the LAW in order for there to be a crime there must be an INJURIED PARTY or DAMAGE PROPERTY so for there to be a fine on anyone making a living for themselves shows me that WE THE PEOPLE are asleep at the wheel and according to some of the comments on this post MY PEOPLE WILL PERISH FROM THE LACK OF KNOWLEDGE. PLEASE WAKE UP!!! it's not about black or white. it's about the CROOKS down at city hall robbing the people blind by imposing a fine on every part of your life.
As long as they fix this, I don't care what else they do:
"The changing of the guard happened earlier today."
"Explains y the food is kinda boring now"
Ron is on to something. I had no idea crossing a double yellow line is apparently legal here. Left hand turn lane... In Chucktown it's a merge lane and/or commercial parking. Senator tags...police can't pull them over? WTF? Traffic enforcement is definitely a weak point for the police. On a local level, Chief Mullens has done a great job and the Dept. Is definitely understaffed.
This child was likely selling roses because he wanted to make money, not because he's part of a rose-selling child-trafficking ring (although I can't say for sure one doesn't exist!). And yes, the children are under-supervised. So slapping him with few juvenile charges isn't a helpful solution, as he nor his family can likely afford the fines I assume will be incurred--or worse, the potential disciplinary measures which will help to further foil this child's future. I have never been "harassed" by the children who sell roses, and I've always declined to buy them. If you have a problem with it, refocus your anger by giving back to the community and the underprivileged children living in it, through volunteering or mentorship. Or, at minimum, educate yourself on the realities of growing up in poverty. Kids make mistakes and test limits. Don't ascribe criminal intent to this child's actions. Think of context.
Explains y the food is kinda boring now
When you don't have a valid point...cry "racism" or change the subject. Kid made a mistake... Police did their job. I remember when the 'entrepreneur' program was enacted. Where do they teach these vendors to get their palmetto hearts? They don't. Are they buying them at the Palmetto Supply Store...NO! Most venders steal them. That's a big problem for this program and a bigger problem for the city and it's residents...
The United States is also a failed regime, unless you happen to be part of the ruling elite.
