Mr. Moredock, ALL government is based upon secrecy and cynicism. How 'bout that, sports fans? Even the wisdom of our Founding Fathers could not protect us forever. We are already run by a cadre of privileged Government elites. Think it's bad now? Just wait 'til your progressive Marxists take over.
Mr. Moredock, supporters are a rare gift and welcome. Yet I would not be so hard on the detractors and critics. Their comments at best stimulate dialogue. They also draw needed attention to your columns. And at the very worst they provide classic textbook cases of the very issues you wish to showcase in your columns. Never forget that whoever opens his mouth in untoward criticism ultimately points the biggest finger right back at himself. I am confident that you will find another noble literary outlet for your gifts.
Professor Moredock,
Thanks for your guidance and willingness to work with me in class. I enjoyed reading your column each week and wish you the best of luck in whatever comes next.

Thanks Will! The enlightened will miss you.
I'm really going to miss your columns, Will. They have been well-informed and insightful. And, yes, they've hammered away at issues that need to be fixed. It takes courage to keep doing that. Many thanks.
if I could see you in church in the morning Will, I'd give you a big hug and volunteer to love your plants & be companion to that Folly Road kitten you rescued, now several years old.... you made my last 7 years of living in Charleston bearable, I felt invited by a rational person to live in the South so polite with smiles but evil actions behind our backs... please ask someone to compile all 500 columns into a book .... I too love your Myrtle Beach work... but I won't be back in Charleston until Tuesday, my Yankee Iowa roots needed watering, my family giving me respite from my exile as Iowa's Only Political Prisoner of Theocracy, I asked for a 3rd time a pardon from Governor FOR LIFE AGAIN BRANSTAD & I need a pardon from Nimrata Haley to expunge the false charges of the tampon terrorists in front of our abortion clinic.... Will we will continue to be Volunteer Bodyguards as those gallant civalrous myths have next to zero southern boys protecting women's reproductive healthcare & the kangaroo courts keep enabling religious fanatics at 1312 Ashley River Road ....Larry_Carter_Center@yahoo.com 843-926-1750 www.hireLarryFireBobby.com @VoteLarryDis114
I think comments on this should be closed.
Gnu name, you obviously have a reading comprehension issue:
7th paragraph: "As a lifelong Southerner whose ancestors have been here two and a half centuries...." And, as a matter of fact, he has cited his roots in any number of his pieces.
Beyond that, what does it matter whether he was born here or not? If he had been born elsewhere (even, God forbid, a Yankee) and had lived here for as long as his column ran (10 years), would his opinions be invalid?
Was Moredock, born or raised in the south? He never mentions it.
You've done an outstanding job as the rational, liberal voice in this conservative area. I've learned so much SC history from your columns. I've especially appreciated the historical context you provide when discussing the current political climate. When the past is considered, the hypocrisy becomes overwhelmingly obvious. Thank you for your service!

Will,
I am so sad to see you go from this position. I will really miss you and your thoughtful and thought provoking pieces. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for your insightful and thought-provoking column. I will miss it so much. Many a column roused me to cheer out loud.
Good luck, good riddance and good bye. Don't let the door...
I wish you luck with a tear in my eye. Yes, Ive always thought that you were a phone call away to share a great pizza. I just should have picked up that phone. Great travels my friend!
Best wishes my friend. We appreciate all you have down to make us aware of the facts, and try to make Charleston a place where human rights and equality mean something.
Thanks Will,
Enjoyed your work - glad that you always played "hardball" with those right wing ignorant "wing nuts".
Will,
Many thanks for your insights, sometimes provocative, about what's going on around here. We'll miss your comments ... and I hope you'll bless us with some more pearls of your wisdom with a WillBlog or something.
Best wishes. As one of the areas other progressive writers, I wish you the best. Enjoy your travels.
Re: “Understanding violence in Charleston and in America”
Looks like someone is blissfully ignoring the violence in Israel between the Jews and Palestinians. Maybe, it's just easier to be ignorant and believe that Arabs are just filthy towel-heads that deserve to have their homes bulldozed, their women raped, elementary schools bombed or shot up with tear gas. Just like it's just easier to believe that greed, intolerance, violence from our ancestors has nothing to do with we who are today or how we treat others that don't have the same color of skin. Also, this isn't about Africa, this isn't about the Holocaust survivors (as appalling as these tragedies are, and don't forget that Americans for the most part chose to not believe that the Jews were being subjected to one of the most inhumane and sick atrocities known to that current generation in a society that was supposed to be modernized). This is about our country, our people, our fellow Americans and OUR issues. This isn't just a black issue, it's an issue that affects us all and instead of turning our heads away, dismissing African Americans as inherently violent and pretending that we have had nothing to do with the dark legacy they inherited from Anglo Americans, we need toopen our eyes, own up to our mistakes and help fix the problems that we contributed to and walked away from. It also makes me sick that anyone would imply that because a writer is white, he should know better than to write such articles. I applaud him for being brave and having the intestional fortitude to stand up and hold ALL those accountable for contributing to the violent society we suffer today.
