Did you ever think that those "back wooders" eat raccoon because they're hungry? Would you rather they panhandle at the crosstown to buy a 12 pack of processed mcnuggets? Who the fuck are you to judge?
And how dare you suggest SC is 100 years behind the times. 20 years tops.
Pathetic excuse for journalism. I mean really? Will next week will appeal to the Chinese population and show a dog this way?? Sure you still have some back wooders who still eat raccoon as its all about "heritage" and "tradition"...I assume you really like keeping people thinking that SC is 100 years behind the times! Ans smart advertiser should pulling their ads from this paper. This is nothing but trash. I find it completely offensive.
I think this is a pitiful way to represent SEWE! It shames Charleston.... just plain TACKY!
artrogue... I call bull on that.. and what does that have to do with the picture? duh?
LAKELAND, Fla. — Animal control officers hope to trap a pack of raccoons that mauled a 74-year-old Florida woman who tried to chase them from her yard.
The sheriff in Polk County, east of Tampa, says Gretchen Whitted fell when five raccoons surrounded and attacked her Sunday. She was taken to a hospital with extensive cuts from her neck to her legs.
“We’re not talking about a lot of little bites here,” Sheriff Grady Judd said. “She was filleted.”
A neighbor called for help after hearing the woman’s cries and seeing her covered in blood.
ROYAL OAK, Mich. (AP) - A West Michigan girl whose face was mauled by a pet raccoon when she was a baby had her final major surgery on Friday.
WOOD-TV reported Saturday that the procedure on 10-year-old Charlotte Ponce was performed Friday at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, north of Detroit.
It was her fifth operation and involved shaping and contouring Charlotte's damaged nose. She is expected to be discharged from the hospital Saturday. Her surgeon plans to reconstruct Charlotte's right ear next summer.
The raccoon attacked the girl in 2002 in her crib while her biological parents lived near Ravenna, about 15 miles east of Muskegon. The raccoon was later destroyed.
Good luck with continuing to grow your business!
It's sensationalized in the media that these weapons are used to shoot up schools? It's "the media's" fault, eh? Ok.
He's right, "the media" should demonize Porsches, because they are the real problem. "Nothing in the world is as benign as an implement built for easy killing, and if you disagree, you're the problem," gun fetishists.
As I said on Facebook, no raccoons were harmed in the making of this photo. A taxidermist loaned us a frozen raccoon for the image. We did not kill this animal. That said, there's nothing wrong with hunting raccoon and eating it. Just as there is nothing wrong with butchering a chicken for a casserole, fried chicken, or hell, nuggets. Same difference.
I don't eat dogs because they have personality. Personality goes a long way.
Are you freakin kidding me? This is disgusting! What a shame! I will never visit LA or NC!! Have any of you actually really interacted with a raccoon? I don't mean cornering them, shooting them or teasing them. They are really wonderful mothers and amazingly smart. They have special individual personalities. I know this because I am a Wildlife rehabber, and I take in all the babies that have been orphaned due to ignorant humans. Oh and 5 lbs? Really? A 5 lbs raccoon is barely 4 months old!! Barbaric!!!
You have got to be kidding. This is 2015, crawl out your cave and evolve...no need to eat any animals at all. I don't understand why these people don't eat dogs and cats too.
Oh, the horror. How dare you suggest wasting a bottle of good Burgundy.
I hate this I cant even think of doing this to a raccoon. If you ever ever had one you would feel like you were cooking a child or a pet dog , Shame on you Shame Shame Shame , you are not starving and there is no call for this !!!!!!!!!!!!
your paper has no class, after seeing this picture i have lost all respect for you, lets put your ass in the pot and see how great you look
Hey Ron, if you're not up in arms about ISIS and Al qaeda, do us a favor and go do some volunteer work in one of their highly populated areas and give us a post/update ocassionally to let us know how things are going! Lightning haha you are awesome dude! Comparing a natural act to a group of nut-job terrorists!
The statistics argument is a good one. Cars kill more people than guns! Well, lightning strikes kill more people than terrorists do, so why is everyone so up in arms about ISIS and al Qaeda?
F*ing hillbillies. Evolve like the rest of the country. And while your at it stop torturing and killing factory farmed animals.
"Cars kill more people every day then guns do in months. Hammers and baseball bats kill more then guns."
Cars, hammers and baseball bats are not designed with the sole purpose of killing something else. People aren't crashing cars into school buildings or army bases or malls to commit mass murder.
The old timers used to eat anything that moved! My grandfather trapped squirrels and would make a nasty big old pot of squirrel stew with 7 or 8 of his cronies all cackling round the kitchen table over it. A few of the real old guys still do it and not as far away from Charleston as one would like to think - say hey Mt. P. They just love them some squirrel in SC. My grandfather would throw all the nasty little fellows in a freezer in the carriage house and split them up with our housekeeper who made a spicier version of same squirrel stew. Two SC old time squirrel killers. We would bring friends over in the summer and show them all the little bodies lined up in the freezer thinking they would sketch right out but many would just say oh yum squirrel. Hahahaha. It is what is is, Possum Pie and Squirrel Stew were Southern staples for a long time.
@Janet Stratman, yes. yes they would. http://www.charlestoncitypaper.com/charles…
