Joseph Burwell did graduate from C of C. His show opens at the Halsey this week.
cid95 you are right gentrification and racism are two separate things. But unfortunately the Gentry Class is predominantly white, because of the untreated racism in our society. and i am not saying that the gentrification process is inharantly racist, but the comments from people like you on this topic and others about race, show the racism i am speaking of. You and some other commenters here, either feel that there are no more race problems in the world and there really still does not exist priviledges for caucasians, or you have just been fed this information by your fox news pundits, or whatever source you decide to get your information from that suits your own pursuits. maybe you want to own realestate, maybe you are looking for an excuse to right your exploitative ventures, i dont know. i dont know you. but one way or another you are living a lie! the civil rights movement is still less than a century old. In a small georgia town until recently, the high schools prom was still segregated. so that you keep insisting that race never plays a role in any other issues is redonkulous. social issues link all the time, and when there is a outside group that is mostly white, coming into a mostly black neighborhood, while not directly communicating with the longest inhabitants of the neighborhood, making plans to change the neighborhood, with 95 percent of attendees of these meetings being the newcomers, which are mostly white, then yessss, race plays a major role in this version of Gentrification.
Gasp... he doesn't do a lot of his own work or intallations anymore?
Not a suprise, considering lots of artists thru the centuries have had production studios and assistants that did the work.
Not only that Matt, but the creator of the iconic poster for Obama's election and supposedly a bastion of liberal philosphy is a successful capitalist .
Mr Fairey is worth close to 16 million dollars. I think its great hes a self made man.
How do liberals make all that money but hypocrisy work ?
The two most fascinating parts of the TMI vid are:
- His obvious reaction to his wife...Its fairly apparent he would like to continue to look like hes a street guy despite the moolah. Plus the demeaning treatment of his wife.
- The angst of his supporters who post on TMZ and go off on TMZ instead of sending their venom his way.
Racism and gentrification are two separate and unrelated matters.
If offer you a price, and you accept it, our races are not relevant to the equation.
Cities change, grow, evolve, decline. There's nothing new under the sun.
I love you Angry Grandpa! <3
it saddens me to see how racist charleston still is. There is 1 humane person on these comments so far, and she doesnt live there anymore. and neither do i at this moment. but was born and bread there. Charleston´s gentrification is out the roof. What about how the gullah have been gentrified off of their lands for years and is continuing with the 526 connector expansion. They keep displacing and disrupting this culture (that by the way for those capitalists, the city profits off them as well.) also, if any of Enough Pie people read this. please get in touch with a group of community artist/activists Alternate Roots. They are based in the neck area past crosstown.
nope...liberace try again.
That's an interesting point Patador. Other candidates? Maybe Colin Quashie?
I'm just gonna leave this here....
If you're talking about keeping it local, I'd rather see an installation by someone that's actually from Charleston as opposed to someone that lived here for four years.
But I 'liked' your comment! Can't I at least get a sympathy like over here?!?!
not your best humor, liberace.
"include someone who graduated from the C of C ?"
When that happens I'm sure they will.
Ugh. The anti-Clarkie is back.
Great job Director and all that were involved in this play! THANK YOU!
Opening night is always a bit different then later performances. This is where changes are made and improvement come as no one is perfect. I am not a director or such but I do know that King Arthur was a gentle leader. I saw this play and thought it was wonderful. The songs were great and the people doing them all did a wonderful performance. They gave freely of their time to do this play and did put a great deal of hard work into it. All of them! It takes great effort to get up and do what they did do. I feel no one should be bashing this play and if they do so they should have better manners and a better knowledge of things that should be said in a review. I feel it is wrong to call out people by their names and to sort of rub their faces in the dirt as was done here. These people put many hard hours into practice and then to be reviewed so unjustly seems so unkind. There were some mistakes as no one is perfect but there were many great things these people all did to deserve a pat on the back! I have been to different plays in different places and have before heard the person speak of people devoting time out of their busy work days to be a part of a play. A good reviewer would see the good people did and not be so cold about that review. And exactly how many plays have you yourself be in I am just curious. Yes a person should be able to stand criticism and that can help them grow but this review was rude and cold. Things could be more tactful. Yes, she is entitled to her opinion but that does not mean she is correct. When I stood in the lobby I heard so many people comment on how great it was, and how wonderful the actors were. I heard many people give glowing reports on what they had seen. So why do they enjoy it and see it different then the critic does? Thank you all for the wonderful performance that I as well as many others fully enjoyed. Keep up the great work and I hope to see you in in other plays in the future. Wonderful job!
What if ,for a 30th anniversary, they could make the installation include someone who graduated from the C of C ?
just as BELIEVERS allege vaginal virgins allegedly birth alleged baby gods SOME PEOPLE HERE BELIEVE they hear voices LOUD when capital letters draw attention to certain words ? are these same people wanting to murder more trees with unlimited faxes ?
"Are you serious?"
43% of the time, I am serious 3/4 of the time.
They chose a real city, one with more than five usable locations? Huh.
