Born and raised here. I hate what Charleston has become.
A bit on the racist side, isn't it? What about white women, Indian woman, or other women? What about handicapped? Or do you specialize like doctors? This seems a bit of a reach to me
How many were killed in Charleston? Or in SC? Just curious?
Face the fact Mr. Mayor, drilling will happen. I don't necessarily agree with the drilling as I also don't agree with Liberals & Democrats. Our resources will eventually "dry up" & we will look to other alternatives(offshore drilling). You talk about drilling causing a major threat to tourism, well a more major problem we have in the city of Charleston , "FLOODING" that a little responsible intellect could resolve, but there is way to many politicians buying votes. The flooding not only causes a threat to tourism,it also "is" a threat to "health". Mr.Mayor, it's time to "EARN OUR KEEP".
Wow! I am impressed. What a fabulous building. Just cannot wait. Another Mike Brady designed Architectural Gem to add to the DT Crown. Mike's been sooooooo busy here lately. Our Stepford Community is only a few years away from complete fruition. So excited to finally be able to say "Hello Buckeyes, Welcome to Anywhere USA".
btw Lynnar, another bit of history -- Trump got access to the land for his casinos in Atlantic City through a sweetheart deal with the Mayor's office. The buildings involved were condemned by the city, taken by eminent domain and then sold to Trump at prices well below market value.
"Are we living in a communist country now?" Another inane and ignorant comment by Lynnar. The US has used eminent domain since the adoption of the Constitution, and the Courts' interpretation of freedom of speech is more liberal now than at any other point in our history. Apparently she got her education of American history and government at the same school as our President.
I'm not in support of the City's use of eminent domain for the old Piggly Wiggly property in West Ashley. It becomes a slippery slope to all property owners. I understand that the Sunoco gas station was a bad fit for many reasons (it's the gateway to West Ashley, had an awful design and use of property, neighborhoods strongly rejected the idea, etc.) I was against that use, but for the City to "take" this property so that it will become a "park", well that's ludicrous! This area is extremely dangerous with merging roads, to begin with. A park is an ill conceived idea. Too bad Whole Foods or Trader Joe's couldn't see this property as a viable area to open their stores. Perhaps it should be developed as a mixed use for retail and offices????
I realized that these are simply popularity contests when they gave best pizza to EVO again. After eating there and getting a one-sided topping pizza I never went back. All the toppings were on one side as if they had tilted it at a 45 degree angle when placing it in the oven. Perhaps they thought I ordered a half and half. The store made bacon was delicious but it would have been better if it covered the entire pizza. Waitstaff seemed to be bored with the ordeal. But hey, if you go there a lot and nowhere else, then, yes, it most likely is your favorite pizza place. And if Chic-fil-a has the best tea, then the rest should take heed and step it up.
Yeah. Design sucks. They should have made them use hardiplank on the exterior so it looks like Charleston.
This eminent domain is not good! Are we living in a communist country now? Gee, I guess we are. Seems we are losing our freedom of speech now. So why not take some property you own. If they do this, what is next? So, does that mean, the city can decide to just take away my house???? Think about it.....you take an inch, then you take a yard.
This looks like a shopping mall in Atlanta. The last thing it should be called is elegant.
Will any affordable units be allotted? #ilovedowntowntoo. Other cities luxury buildings housed 80/20 units. Charleston needs affordable housing downtown. Why not start here!
That College of Charleston rent revenue will make it work.
Well, you people finally got something right. Heritage is a wonderful thing, "politics" suck.
Trying to understand this cartoon. Is it saying that only white Americans feel they have a right to carry a weapon for self protection, or that All Americans should be against the 'Constitutional Carry bill' because it might make it hard for terrorists to be noticed when they walk armed down the street?
If you are a citizen of the United States, the Constitution applies to you. The second amendment is a CIVIL right, just like freedom of speech.
Remember that he is our elected president.
Show half the respect that you liberals showed the last "freeloader".
Bravo to the city for turning down the application. Now let's put our energy to halt the hotels from taking away the Charleston we came here to enjoy. It won't be long before we won't be able to look out across the harbor and enjoy the views.
You know how people say that it is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission? Not with construction permits. The professionals know this. They f*cked up. "Oh, but they're wealthy businesspeople, shouldn't they get their way with this neato thingy?" Dwayne asks.
No because that would make it even more f*cked up. The argument that they've rehabilitated the Rivers Federal Building is a red herring; they are getting their money out of that hotel and the restaurants just like they originally planned.
The Homeownership Initiative has several homes in its inventory and is a great place to start to provide affordable housing. This legislation kicks the can down the road. We have a good start in the HI program it's just highly under utilized. Please Google it to learn more
