Re: “THURSDAY: Rodney Scott's BBQ opens at 11:30 a.m. for real

Ok I was excited to try Scotts, I waited 2 weeks for the lines to calm down and then finally made it in. Well gotta say it was disappointing, first of all the bbq ribs I ordered were ok but I expected better, glad I didn't wait in the 45 minute lines. The corn bread was the driest and worse I ever had. The Mac and Cheese was ok. On a 1 to 10 I give it a 5. Will I go again? Probably, but only in a pinch.

Re: “The Agenda: McMaster rejects idea of gas tax bump; Graham asking for Trump wiretap proof; A fix for FollyGras?

Even if a little of the gas tax goes to mass transit, I would say it is a good deal. It is not paid only by SC taxpayers, like income tax, but it is paid also by tourists and other visitors to SC, whoever drives to SC.

Re: “The betrayal of Trans America

To Jshicke.. you're showing your relative ignorance of human sexuality. I recommend you watch the recent Katie Couric series on Netflix all the way through and you will come away with current, true information on the subject. I now know what an "intersexual" human is and I hadn't even heard the term before seeing the series.. so much to learn and so little time.

Re: “What to do when the director of the EPA doesn't believe in climate change?

Thank you, Jeremy, for your eloquent column. My heart sank when the current EPA head was selected by the the worst, most corrupt polluters and their minions, id est, the Congress, Trump and Bannon. Only the least educated would fail to see the value of laws protecting our planet and they are the hateful ones when you're trying to discuss outcomes of pollution in a rational way. I recall being unable to breathe in France, Italy, Hong Kong, India and Los Angeles in the bad old days from air pollution. The EPA and other countries' equivalent agencies have had a great effect on this issue and even China is beginning to take it seriously. In addition, my recent trip to a reef offshore the Florida keys yielded a brown, dead environment when it was so colorful and alive with fish just 20 years ago. What the hell are we doing to ourselves by going backward - it's madness!!!

Re: “The Agenda: McMaster rejects idea of gas tax bump; Graham asking for Trump wiretap proof; A fix for FollyGras?

I'm not 100% opposed to increase of gas tax (2% would cost the average driver less than 80 cent per tank or about 40 bucks a year) but if McMaster is correct, not all of the current tax goes to bridges and highways and I would revisit that to make sure that that money is being put to proper and beneficial use before the minuscule increase proposed is approved.

Re: “Stegelin: The bill that launched a thousand investigations

Really! Statistics show a steady decline in sex-related crimes even though the availability of "it" has increased exponentially. Lawmakers should be focusing on real issues like roads in such disrepair they are destroying our cars and causing accidents, sometimes with terrible results.

Re: “Getting a grip on real world feminism

Three cheers for illuminating these tough issues. Equal pay, mutual respect, affordable and high quality child care, elder care, health insurance, education and control of reproductive freedoms are things I will continue to fight for in solidarity with women here in the US and around the world. I am a proud patriot and also dedicated to continuing to make our democratic system work for all of us. Great piece.

Re: “What to do when the director of the EPA doesn't believe in climate change?

I saw "The Lorax" on TV as a cartoon when I was a child. I remember being sad but also thinking later that The Once-ler was a stupid capitalist for not sustaining and renewing his raw material (trees.) No more truffula trees = no more profit = no more corporation! I'm disappointed that it took 35--40 more years for the word "sustainable" to enter the public vocabulary!

Think about this- there will be no alternative air and water supply from which climate deniers can choose. Do take a look at the science for your sake and that of your family or future family.

Re: “The betrayal of Trans America

"It's going to be hard for the administration to go after lesbian, gay, and bi people because they have numbers, they have resources, they have money. We don't necessarily have that," Williams said. "You're going after transgender people ... We're only .6 percent of the population."

Don't worry, Ma'am... the LGBs will be feeling the poison once again, soon enough, and solidarity of shafted will return to LGBT people. Sure, Trump is friends with Peter Thiel, but one asshole billionaire doesn't a coherent gay outreach make. Upside: while society will stop its march towards recognition of your true self, you will pay lower taxes. That is no doubt a massive consolation.

Re: “The betrayal of Trans America

Lynnar, how does a 5 year old boy come to look like a girl? The only way I know of is if the child was born as a hermaphrodite, with sex organs of both genders to begin with. That is the ONE case where I would support a 'Male' being allowed into a 'FEMALE' bathroom. The only other way a 5 year old became a girl is if the parents abuse the child and had the male organ severed in their wish to have had a 'little girl'. In which case I would seriously support the doctor who did the surgery being prosecuted. A 5 year old does not have a clue about what they want for their future.

Re: “The conversation we should all be having about gun violence and firearm safety

"a law requiring that guns be locked in a gun safe doesn't mean the parents will actually do that."

California has such a law I believe and list several safes that are 'recommended' by the state of California. All of them take about 20 seconds to break into after watching a YouTube video. Several of these videos even tell young people how to get into one without leaving a trace that you did it.

That is how well a safe keeps young teens away from a firearm if they are determined to get to one. Because people forget pass codes, or lose keys, nearly all are designed with a 'back door' so the owner can still get in and retrieve their property. These back doors are documented and placed on your tube where a simple piece of wire is all that is required to gain entry.

Re: “The conversation we should all be having about gun violence and firearm safety

"Shootings occur almost every weekend in parking lots outside bars"
But name one of those shootings that were committed by a CCW holder. Almost every time that occurs it's someone who already has been stripped of his right to bear arms due to a previous crime.

"The recent shootings or guns discovered in the hands of school children is another serious accident waiting to happen."
They were breaking the law already, and a law requiring that guns be locked in a gun safe doesn't mean the parents will actually do that. The best such a law can do is result in the parents being incarcerated, probably leaving other children with parents in jail.

Re: “The conversation we should all be having about gun violence and firearm safety

I liked the article, and realize there are two sides to every story! When the open carry regulations were passed a few I fought against them. To have a law that states that you can carry a gun into a bar, but you can't drink, is the dumbest thing I ever heard. I was not wrong. Shootings occur almost every weekend in parking lots outside bars in the Charleston area. The recent shootings or guns discovered in the hands of school children is another serious accident waiting to happen. The problem lies with parents who do nothing to keep guns in a locked, secure place. There are many yhings that our Legislature can do to reduce crime in this state, but depend on the NRA to keep their offices in Columbia. Pretty sad.

Re: “What to do when the director of the EPA doesn't believe in climate change?

The EPA is an out of control agency that hasn't answered to anyone in government since Nixon created it in 1972. It's a bloat, agenda-drive bureaucracy that is destroying the American economy and actually hurting real people by creating regulatory work far beyond it authority, for the purpose of creating more work for itself and with the goal to expand in perpetuity.

As usually, Mr. Rutledge's Chicken Little editorials are empty of facts and heavy on the hysteria, quoting that well known global warming scientist Dr. Seuss. No, the water and air isn't going to turn all Green Eggs and Ham under this administration if they simply want to make the EPA more accountable to the American people and more responsible for the way their actions effect those same people.

Your act is getting predictable and boring Jeremy, I'd suggest next time you include the old chestnut "what about the children?" It won't make you editorial more factual, but it is an empty emotional point you haven't used yet.

Re: “The betrayal of Trans America

My point in quoting the OP was that the Obama administration engaged in actions far more power hungry and constitutionally lawless than anything the Trump administration has engaged in the two months they have been in office.

I don't think any of us mind that terrorists are dead, but a president can't selectively pick and choose to enforce constitutional laws, otherwise kiss that 2nd amendment bye if you get a president who chooses to unlawfully confiscated legally owned firearms from American citizens for no other reason than he feel the owners are "bad guys"

BTW James Rossen was wiretapped and his only crime was he worked for FOX.

Source for the killing of American citizens - US acknowledges killing 4 Americans in drone strikes, N.Y. Times, May 22, 2013.

Re: “Getting a grip on real world feminism

I want to throw up. Shame on you. You don't know how great you have it here as a woman. Most women who are married, rule the roost. Have you been to Pakistan, or Afghanistan lately?? Or Somalia? Or Bahrain? Saudi Arabia. I suggest you visit those countries before mouthing off how bad women have it here.

And I guess you did not read the articles and see the pictures and videos of the people coming in from Syria into Germany. All young men. You hardly saw any women and children. You need to brush up on your current events. They are building an army. Have you any idea what is going on in the EU? Apparently not.

My parents were refugees. But came here legally. Never took a dime from the government and assimilated. Did you know that the #1 name in the U.K. Is Mohammad? Not Harry. Why is that? Do you know that Sweden has the highest incident of rape by young Muslim men? Why is that? The girls are dying their hair dark, to dissuade the men from attacking them. But I guess it's their fault. The land of the midnight sun.

You try moving to a country where they let you stay. Give you free housing. Free medical, free food and spending money. It doesn't exist. They throw u out. Why? They have borders.

You talk about justice. My goodness. You live in the greatest country in the world. Start appreciating it.

Re: “The betrayal of Trans America

Wait a minute. Wasn't this article about the trans gender issue??? The above comments have absolutely nothing to do with the article. I feel for transgender people. I just watched an episode on VICE on HBO last week devoted to this issue. And if it is healthy to start young kids from going thru puberty. I really do feel there is a cross chromosome that happens. But the issue is what to do with the majority of the population who are not transgender. We hv to look at both sides. When I saw this young boy on Vice, who was 5, he was already a " she". Totally. No way did she look like a he. But what happens when she goes to middle school and HS? And has to change in the locker room. She can get hormones to be more feminine. She can go in a stall. The girls will never know, until they start gym. I know when I was a young teenager, the thought of seeing a man's genitals was scary. Granted teenage girls r having sex at a younger age. But not all. And it is not fair to them and their parents to be subjected to a very small % of the population.

I do not think the Supreme Court sent it back to the lower courts because of Trump. This will be left up to the states. Just as pot is being left up to the states.
But to judge people as racists or homophobic and just horrible people is nonsense because they don't agree with transgender bathrooms.

People who voted for Trump are not racist. Don't hate gays. Don't hate transgenders. And blacks who are republicans are not uncle Tom's. It is utter nonsense. And it's getting boring.
