State borders would be a good place to start.
Destroy all borders.
Nationality is a disease of the mind.
David John Francis is clearly a troll/shill. Signed up today and posted c/p regressive echo chamber babble.
D Alessandro's pizza sucks now....
This is an issue that just rips the regressives apart....separating the bankstas from the bigots.
The problem with scaling agricultural "sustainability", is that there are far more people who want to talk about it in broad, romantic terms (or use the concept to generate media attention and celebrity) than actually give it a go. Most Americans aren't willing to live the way smallholders often do - that's why our farmland now contains plastic houses in the suburbs - and the ones that do are often happy enough feeding their own.
The actual proprietors of the small farm community were probably out working too hard to be interviewed for this article. Almost all of the families truly producing locally farmed food work other jobs to pay for their passion. They aren't especially interested in lots of money or fame, and don't really care if the rest of the world buys their lettuce from the same country as they get their t-shirts these days.
If 10% of the population learned to cook, stopped buying industrially processed foods, and didn't source meats and produce from grocery chains, then you'd have an explosion in local farming (and much lower health costs). You'd also have a quick lobby by corporate/government officials to regulate all of that in the name of safety and shut it down.
Undocumented immigration is one of the great effects of supply and demand free market capitalism. Which is why I get so confused when I see my ardent free market libertarian and conservative colleagues around here getting all worked up about illegals and demanding the creation of more government bureaucracy and spending. The market will sort it out friends.
A temporary worker program would be ok if it was properly managed. That last part is the most important part.
Biometric ID for foreign workers, a % of their wages held in escrow to be paid upon completion of their contract and either exit or renewal, forfeiture of said wages if convicted of serious crimes, clear non-eligibility for "social programs and benefits", etc.
Other countries do this. It's not hard.
I have a great idea, lets debauch and prostitute the citizenship of our great nation, in order to save a few cents on the price of fresh peaches. Won't those peaches taste good knowing that they are picked by illegal labor and you are saving a whole nickel or so on every one of them!!
He’d like to see more fruit produced inside the U.S. borders and it would be easier to do that, he says, with a guest worker program stemming from immigration reform
OOOPS, Ooops, oops. A guest worker program would cost the American Taxpayer welfare also. No welfare.. I would go for green cards, but the employer would be responsiable for those workers while they were in the United States.
Today we have the one parent household with several children from different fathers, the woman who for the most part has no moral compass has never been married to any of those fathers. and society wonders why we are having so much crime and drug use by the youth and that parent.
Worried about AIDS? According to the CDC, about 440,000 people die from tobacco smoke every year. That number includes the mostly innocent 49400 who die from exposure to secondhand smoke.
Deaths from AIDS? 8369. http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/aids-hiv.h…
That's right, almost 6 times as many die from exposure to secondhand smoke as die from AIDS in the USA.
So if you want to be worried about AIDS to the point where you don't have sex anymore help yourself.
Just don't try to tell me that if you have a cigarette in your mouth.
I just downloaded the album from I tunes. The vocals from Mel and Sarra are incredible and puts your heart/soul at peace. It's by far my favorite Christmas album.
Hopefully, he's parlayed some of all this national press into some $$. If not, shame on him.
....hot off the press
"fairy tale of religious proportions!!!" Love it!! LOL. Our celebration of our honest and kind relationships NOW is worthy of our energies. ALL historic celebrations are the pretentious creations of manipulators. NOW is worthy of celebrating. Yesterday is history, written by extortionists.
"Parents, not teachers, impart social values."
Yeah that sounds good in principle, but what happens when the parents are the Crabtrees?
As Driftaway said, I have full confidence you would have expressed the same outrage and written the same article had the school linked to the Focus on the Family website. Right? Right? Your whole point is that school is no place for any values, not just the ones with which you disagree. Right?
I eagerly await your reply confirming your opposition to Focus on the Family and the Family Research Council being mentioned in any type of educational setting.
I'd also like to see how you would "grow jobs" and "start focusing on improving our city's conditions" and "start embracing programs that help citizens who are struggling the most" What do any of these words even mean? Your ilk loves to complain about all of the perceived ills of the world, but yet can never seem to offer any real solutions.
What's your specific plan? I see nothing but an empty suit spouting empty words, a man frightened by diversity and progress, trying to maintain a grip on outdated ideals, scared because his whole security and identity are bound up in an unstable, ignorant delusion.
The really scary thing about this initiative is that it might create an awareness that blacks and the poor are people too, thus undermining the entire basis for South Carolina's one-party system.
Thank you Charleston City Paper for keeping us updated on this important story! So glad women in SC still have choices for where they give birth!
