You might have mentioned that not only does he live in HH, he has a restaurant in Bluffton.

Re: “Charleston is still a long ways off from embracing true hip-hop culture

Thats it in a nutshell Nope. Its all about the Music. Some of us came up with this Music and still listen to it - it's part of our constant background music of Life. At 40/40 west side or the Sky Room in hells kitchen, there are people from every ethnic background and all walks of life, the one universal thread everyone has is the music. The DJ's at the sky room are some of the best ever. DJ Erika Hamilton is just about my all time favorite. (The 90's were very good to me). ImFromHere read Nopes reply.

Are the crispy fried strings of sweet potatoes ($8) excellent?

Re: “Charleston is still a long ways off from embracing true hip-hop culture

Probably not a great explanation (and it's only my point of view perhaps), but music is at the core of the culture. The music draws people together. The crowd it draws tends to be very diverse, genuine, welcoming, positive, creative, non-judgemental, etc. There is a feel/vibe to it when you're around this group of people. To me, that's the culture.

CIA, maybe it's a lifestyle but all you have to say is about music. What is the lifestyle or culture or whatever it is that this discussion purports to be about?

Re: “Charleston is still a long ways off from embracing true hip-hop culture

Hip Hop rules.....Just not here. It is a life style and not just music. I am old now so I really like the old timers - Wu-tang, Beasties, Biggie, NWA and my fave A Tribe called Quest, but I still like to give the young guys a chance. Of course I spent a lot of my formative years in the LES so thats why my musical tastes run a little diff from the norm here. Its what I heard all day every day. No gaga for me k-thanks. I will take the Fugees over her any day. 40/40 and the Sky Room in NYC both are great - too bad we could not have something like that here, but we don't have Jay-Z to fund it. Your theory has been proven to be correct!

One River, One Boat does not apply to Gubner Trikki Nikki. One Creek, No Paddle poem is much more applicable: *Please feel free to add to our CCP communal work in progress poem.
Up the Creek, no end in sight
Sombody stifle ol Dimwit Bright
Alan Wilson is after Gay Rights
Up the Creek, no end in sight
Bright again - Pee to Get Paid
Jacksons sexting ban - No getting Laid
Cobb wants the NRA to teach kids whats Right

Re: “Charleston is still a long ways off from embracing true hip-hop culture

I think you're right, IFH, which is ironically appropriate because KJ describes it as a "religion." Evangelists of all stripes often speak in jargon while forgetting that they're addressing the unconverted.

But I get his basic point: if you want to go out to a club that embraces rap music not as a side dish but as the entire entree list, you're going to be seriously disappointed. The best you can get is a small serving of very-safe, Billboard-approved hits interspersed with completely unthreatening Katy Perry and Gaga tracks so as to not make anyone feel like a minority or outsider. Except, you know, for the minorities they'd like to keep outside.

Rap is terrible and the lowest form of music. Its followed closely by modern country.

The writer makes no effort to describe what hip-hop culture is. What is the lifestyle he's talking about?

Re: “Ryan Nelson Replaced

How'd that new anchor work our for you Suzanne Teagle...and the one after that...and the one after that? Exactly...that's what I thought. It's now Jan, 2015 and the show is now a colossal failure and will never be the same without the jovial, playful and entertaining Ryan Nelson. Ryan had personality plus. Everyone since is stilted, insincere and artificial. Great work Suzanne. Hope you've since been fired for your wreckless, "financial decision".

Re: “State legislature to look at guns, weed, ethics, sexting, taxes, and mopeds

Personhood? I see that Dimwit Bright was responsible for this joke. He's such a clown, always giving us a good chuckle. He really needs to consider stand up comedy as a career choice.
Law of the Landlord? This sounds straight up feudal and chances are if they can't make rent - they broke ass - why bother.
Ethics reform? What ethics? Not a requirment for SC politicians - if it passes it will be selective ethics AKA bidnezz as usual.
Fun with Guns? 3 weeks of NRA curriculum in high school. Hahahahaha. Who made this one up? The last group I would want anywhere near kids - unless they are digging up Mr. Heston and showing Moses, then I am in.
And my favorite: Paying Student Athletes? Because we just can not let the country of Texas get a leg up on us and we secretly admire them sneaky little Cowboys. Free cars for Footballers! Yeehaw dawg.

Re: “A satisfying new menu has saved Mt. Pleasant's The Americano

Very good review Eric. You told us all what we need to know. No extra salt however, put it on at your own table. I am constantly aghast at the overuse and abuse of salt and sugar in this country. Please keep doing reviews exactly like this one - no extra silly food porn verbage needed - just the facts.
