Thank You!! Please express our heartfelt appreciation to Ms. Gelbaugh and to the ownership of Charleston City Paper for having the courage and integrity to report dispassionately on the screening of Vaxxed. No doubt, you will come under pressure to join in efforts to poison the well and dissuade the public from giving it a fair hearing.
What a mess. I get a kick out of Sheppy. Landon made a fool of herself by not doing a website for Remmington Steele( that is my name for him). I can't stand JD. That boorish laugh. Awful. He must come from money. That is why he and Thomas must be friends. Why else? And JD's wife seems so nice. And who was that scuz ball having drinks with them at O'BRIONS? Yuk. I think it was rude of Patricia ( who I like) and JD to have Thomas do a paternity test at the dinner party. Not in good taste. Craig is immature and I have a feeling Naomi will soon be breaking up with him. I like Craig, just wish he would get his act together. Can't wait till next week. Looks like a doozy.
I like turtles
ok,so I will start with Shep.I believe he doesn't want to get serious because his mommy&daddy isn't about to support him&his! They just may wake up&make him stand on his own. They may make him get out of bed before noon.Landon, well when u look into her eyes she looks pretty much like shes lost in space, all the time!Craig, now he is yes,A kind of spoiled baby or just acts this way but Shep seems not to really talk like he's craig's friend so I sense some jealousy there.Shep puts down Craigs way of dressing, his jobs, how much he drinks. The only thing shep hasn't attacked about him is Naomie.Prob. because he wants her.Craig will get it together but hopefully before Naomie has had enough!Camaren, well I think she is just to in love with herself her body to have any babies!JD,What is there to say,I love his deep throated laugh, his business brain, what is there not to love.Pat&Old Whit,I won't even touch those 2.Never seen anything quite like them...
Lady Elaine Fairchilde....hahaha
I am anxiously awaiting last episode's recap. Hilarious stuff here.
Criticism of the media and calling attention to the stereotypes and lazy reporting they espouse is critical to a free society. The P&C has been consistently on the wrong side of history, as has most of SC, regarding race related matters. When we threaten those who call out the establishment and seek to silence them via intimidation and ridicule is the exact path taken to the Iraq War and a Trump presidency. It’s Haire’s job to be the voice that criticizes corporate (typically conservative) local media – not be the next John Keats. Having read the original version of the article there was no attempt drag Eric’s name through the mud or cynical ploy to get hits. Eric had a misdemeanor, so what. Do you really think he would be embarrassed by that? I knew Eric to be a brash and opinionated guy and I loved him for that. It seems Haire is getting raked over the coals for that same qualities that we appreciated in Eric.
Haire did the right thing by honoring Ms. Senteners request. We should do the right thing and be prepared to have an adult conversation about racial matters and how they’re dealt with in the media.
"Some have equated Eric Brantley's murder to the brutal race war killings of the Emanuel 9"
Now you're just making shit up. Enough already. Just stop.
Mr. Haire continues his efforts to bore us to death. Most of us read more than the Post & Courier daily yet, I do admit that I suffer greatly when City Paper is one of those reads.
One more observation: Let's be very clear about Mr. Brantleys death. Eric Bratley did not die. He did not pass. Eric Brantley was murdered. He was alone. He did not willingly go. He was murdered.
Mr. Hairs fails miserably to compare and contrast or develop a storyline, repeatedly. Here's a recap:Culture+P&C+Spoleto+Racism+Innocent Victim+Murder Suspects+Innocent Victim+History+Haires+City Paper=💩
does anybody really care what Chris Haire has to say? Just cause hes got a forum to print it doesnt mean its worth reading.
You are a hack. You dragged my son's name into your obvious hatred for the Post & Courier...it has nothing at all to do with Eric Brantley. For your information, that article was not presented to the friends and family the way it was written. I for one, was so upset, I couldn't even comment on it. It was written a week after his MURDER. What part of this do you not understand? It is not about an omission of a criminal record of my son...he had a ticket for a misdemeanor and maybe traffic charges. So the omission of that is what you're touting as a point in a piece you were writing for Spoleto....has no relevance. Again...you are a hack. You should be fired. It is not a black and white thing for myself or for Eric, his neighbors came over to comfort me and to tell me what a wonderful person he was when I had the unfortunate task of packing his belongings. His neighbors were black..not that it matters, it only matters to you. His neighbors hugged me, told me what a good man he was, and what he did for them. AND...how they hoped that the criminals that murdered my son would get what they deserved. They assured me that they would pay for taking a good man. Take it for what it is worth...it doesn't matter that you retracted Eric's name from your piece...you threatened to use his name again. Don't go there.
You suggested that P&C was guilty of bigotry because they did not draw a parallel between Eric's misdemeanor and his murderers' multiple felonies. So yes, you did attempt to draw a parallel. One that doesn't exist.
Surely everyone realizes that I didn't draw the parallels, nor would I have covering this. The P&C wrote an article which had at its base the argument that there were parallels.
It was detracting from the overall point because it wasn't relevant.
Eric was a 43 year old man with one simple possession charge over 20 years ago. These pieces of shit, at 17 years old, have already stacked up multiple fire arms charges, manufacturing, trespassing, receiving stolen goods, attempted murder, assault, failure to stop for blue lights, hindering police, and now armed robbery and murder all within the last two years. One misdemeanor does not illustrate any sort of parallel to their litany of felony charges. Surely you realize that.
I have removed the comment in the article mentioning Eric Brantley's horrific murder since it was detracting from the overall point of this post. No offense was ever meant to his memory or his family or friends, although I was aware that merely mentioning his arrest would stir up anger. However, I felt it was important to point out the arrest given that the article in question examined the parallel lives of Brantley and his alleged murderers and that the omission in such a piece helped illustrate how a type of blind-eye bigotry still infects the P&C when it comes to issues involving race. The EBLA and I will probably never see eye to eye on this, and I'm willing to accept that. I may address the complaints and issues raised by some of his friends in a future column, in part because it has introduced another aspect of life in modern Charleston, if not modern America. Some have equated Eric Brantley's murder to the brutal race war killings of the Emanuel 9, I don't see a connection, but I understand the grief of those left behind. However, I do believe that the reaction by certain portions of the white community to Brantley's murder is similar to the reactions of the black community following the Walter Scott community — the anger, the protest, the social media prescene. Sadly, too many in the white community have defended Michael Slager's action and, as far as I know, little to no in the black community has condemned the actions of the two men that killed Eric Brantley. The two reactions very much speak to the division between whites and blacks in the Charleston area. All of this is also wrapped up in the rapid gentrification of Park Circle by whites and the increasing paranoia/obsession about crime in the neighborhood, a paranoia in which those affected see any black male teenager or a black man as a threat and not as their neighbor. In part, this fear has arisen as more whites have begun to more into the traditionally lower-income pockets of Park Circle where lower-income blacks have traditionally lived. Instead of breeding a feeling of community, sometimes it seems that only more animosity and fear are being created.
There is no comparison. EBLibArmy is correct. Eric got caught with a little weed, so have I (more than once), so have many others here in the Chuck, uhhh so what. There is no "somewhat" comparison to be made. The little lowlife animals that killed him were seriously studying Murder 101 for a few years already. Those animals and their accomplices won't be missed by anybody but many people will miss Eric for years to come.
To be clear, we read your article. We get the point you are trying to make. We believe there are probably dozens of better examples you could have used without publicly stating that Brantley had a 'criminal record'. To imply that any minor brush he may have had could compare with the violent records his assailants shared is obscene. It's lazy writing. It's offensive. It actually makes you look bad as opposed to the P&C who treated his memory with respect. At the very least you could apologize, but removing the portion of your article insinuating that Brantley shared a history of violence in common with the people who murdered him would be ideal.
Holy mother of christ what a painfully boring steaming pile of click-bait drivel. You have officially eclipsed even your own self as an embarrasment to an already embarassing rag.
Btw du buois, It's tenet, not tenant; you fucking imbecile.
Why can't you admit that using Eric Brantley was low on your part, aside from what the post has done.
Let me get this straight. You want me to apologize for one comment highlighting how a newspaper failed to mention one aspect about one man's life that was pertinent to the story they were telling but somehow you don't care that very same organization repeatedly helped subjugate and foster terrorism against an entire race of people? Why aren't you demanding the P&C apologize?
