Since our state is going to go to Trump, we have the luxury of voting our consciences, even if that means not voting for national candidates. I'm going to vote again for the deeply experienced, knowledgeable, committed Hillary Clinton despite her flaws because I've not revised my voting standards for this one particular candidate to demand perfection. If addressing anthropogenic climate change, universal health care and women's rights is conservative, then so be it, although I feel that there are a lot of conservatives on this site that would bristle at such a characterization. You know, since they absolutely, positively reject all of those things with every fiber of their beings.
Thoughtful commentary ! Incidentally if others are looking for a a form , my family filled out and faxed a template version here "http://goo.gl/ph3FBp".
Well done Stephanie. Thank you for the level-headed, logical and clear argument for more bike and pedestrian access in Charleston. More clearly marked bicycle lanes = less cars on the roads.
This is enlightening (for the teachable, anyway):
Education of the plight of the LGBT community can inform the ignorant (able to learn but less informed) but can never reach the stupid (lack of the ability to learn), unfortunately. But we can always try.
If anyone doesn't like the diverse reporting of CCP, then a suggestion would be to forever tune into Faux News, read Brietbart online and/or engage any other extreme-right media outlet to get your hard-on. In many cases, anger at our community is just an indicator of a closet case trying to remain hidden, but stupid may apply here.
Bicycles are the future of Charleston? Come on, get real. Has the bike/ped lane on the Ravenel bridge reduced traffic to and from downtown? No, it has not, nor will this over the Ashley. It will become evident when the DOT reclaims this lane for vehicular traffic
I've posted this before and I'll probably post it again later, but the test made was the worst case, installing the bike lane that nobody uses. It still only had a 1 minute adverse effect on the transit time over the bridge, imagine if everyone within biking distance of the bridge took a bike instead of driving.
Field of Dreams; if you build it, they will come.
Vote Gary Johnson. 15% of popular vote will get libertarian party invite to next presidential debates.
Granted the choice isn't great this year. Hillary is not exactly transparent. But Trump is dangerous. He is clueless about the constitution; he is an ego maniac who bashes John McCain, other veteran heroes. He has an economic plan which is a disaster from the 10 trillion dollar deficit caused by his tax cuts for the wealthy, to deporting 12 million illegals, to favoring protective tariffs. He is a compulsive liar; i.e. no relationship with Putin when for 3 years he bragged about the relationship; his backers didn't remove the Ukraine plank from the republican platform; it is a real Purple Heart medal not a copy; he is worth 8 billion; the list goes on and on. He wants to monitor mosques and ban muslims. He is a national security nightmare as judged by every national security expert whom I have heard speak.
Clinton's Supreme Court appointments will overturn Citizens United, one of the most destructive decisions in Supreme Court history. She is stable which Trump is not; she's steady which Trump is not; she is knowledgeable which Trump is not; she is not thin skinned and she is not a bully; she is experienced which Trump is not.
Complete the Mark Clark as an expressway, not as a parkway.
NO on the Sales tax referendum and all future ones until 526 is approved, funded, and moving forward!
Put it on the ballot as a separate question, no advisory, its toothless.
Sue the SIB and get the money, pursue alternate funding, such as a toll.
You have until Nov.7th.
The 3 mile long James Island Connector was built for $206 million (2016 dollars) and a road the same length could connect 526 to Johns Island. So why is the County wanting to spend $195 million on Main Road when we could just build the Johns Island Connector? Fixing Main road does nothing to get Johns Island traffic out of West Ashley or James Island, forces people to still drive miles in the wrong direction, and does nothing for overcrowding on Savannah Highway.
This is the single most idiotic article I've read in a while.
I've read the blotter section of the 'Charleston City Paper' for years and finally decided to start reading the rest of the articles contained therein. Frankly, after reading nothing but crap for months supporting LGBT, Brady campaign, BLM, and Socialist political rhetoric, I give up, and will go back to reading the one section that I find I can enjoy in this paper, The Blotter.
$150 in gold coins stolen? Must not have been very big coins considering gold is $1350 an ounce at the moment.
My Name is Lee Anne Leland. I am co-facilitator of the adult transgender support group and am on the board of the youth LGBTQI group, We Are Family. I have first hand knowledge of the struggles these young people go through and I also see the strength they have as they face a room full of adults and address a school board about their concerns. I would have never had the courage to do what they do when I was their age. Take a moment and go to www.waf.org and see all we do on a shoestring budget. And we would not mind if you happened to hit the donation link.

I'm not a Republican, I'm a registered independent. However, I think this is valid input. The Republicans will do well to pave the way for Niki Haley next time around if they want a viable candidate.
