Hating on H&M is just as bad as praising it. I doubt I will ever step foot inside H&M but to each his own. Who really cares if some people were excited that they got to go to the pre-opening? The store will be successful here so it was a smart business move by the company to move here. At the end of the day nothing has really changed. Relax and carry on with your life if you think you can survive this travesty!
Keep shopping at the Goodwill and Sally Hall Stephanie it fits in with your hipster blase.
Hahahaha, seriously, bragging about pre-opening H & M shopping (this is something you might want to not discuss publicly if you are over the age of 16). Urban, Forever 21, H & M, American Apparel. King Street looking real classy....not. Could we possibly get a Ikea and a Target down there to complete the picture? Geez, I could have a complete new wardrobe and furnish a new 5 bedroom home all for under $99.99 at the after Christmas sales if we had Ikea too. All of the above should be located at the outlet in North Chuck. We should of made some kind of attempt and had some type of incentive to keep local businesses and local designers in the tourist area instead of having the same cheap crapola people can get at any mall in the USA.
H&M is not a new phenomenon by any means. It's part of hugely successful global retail empire. In typical fashion, charleston is one of the last places on the list to get something the rest of the world enjoys. So back up and be glad that people are finally seeing this city as a place to invest their dollars.
While I'm not a fan of "fast fashion" brands like H&M, there's clearly a market for it. They're serving the 18-25 crowd. It's not like that market would be shopping at the local higher end boutiques anyway. Most in the age bracket can't afford it. So they go to H&M, Forever 21, etc. they're not interested in a blazer that will last 20 years. They're only concern is looking cute for the party tonight. So direct the animosity elsewhere and be happy for Charleston.
I am not even going to read the original post by Hugh. It doesn't matter. Hugh, if you ever read this, please don't care about what envious people think. It's clear from your interviews and from your posts that you're a good guy. Nobody said you'd have to be perfect and always write the right stuff, or always be politically correct. Thanks again for the good reads ;)
