CCSD is driving this train and they should not be as they are not putting any funding into the renovation. CCSD leadership is running scared from addressing the real options available. They are intimidated by African Amercian leadership whom I found to be very open-minded about the options available on the penisula. The renovation numbers as described above are way off City of Charleston estimates. I know all these comments to be factual as I spent better part of 10 months meeting with everyone from state, county, city, Citadel, etc. discussing the many options available. Going to take strong leader to take this issue on and take the lead (that leader has not emerged yet). That leadership does not exist right now at CCSD and I am hopeful that it is Mayor Tecklenburg that stands up and does the right thing. Building back at Stoney Field is not the right thing to do.
Trump just found out he doesn't have the power or finesse to save ALL our jobs - just another corporate crony. https://www.washingtonpost.com/posteveryth…
Obama and Clinton need to address the nation ASAP about the numerous politically and racially violent incidents committed by their supporters. They need to calm their "people."
Trump needs to address the nation ASAP about the surrogate violence that is cropping up nationwide in his name. This is going to get much more dangerous and deadly unless he calms his "people".
^ Your dad didn't fight in a war to protect a flag. He fought to protect what the flag stands for, which are all of the freedoms we enjoy. One of those freedoms being the freedom to express oneself without reproach from the government. This includes flag burning. It's one of the great ironies in this country that people get so worked up about things like flag burning and not standing for the national anthem and not reciting the pledge of allegiance and still claim to love freedom. They only love the freedom that is convenient and doesn't make them feel uncomfortable. This makes them hypocrites. In World War 2 we were fighting AGAINST countries that did punish its own citizens for speaking out against the government.
Truthus, the bill Clinton CO-sponsored that you are referring to was to prevent flag burning when it was done to incite violence or terrorism. It was a few years after 9/11 when the histrionics about patriotism were still on full blast. I still don't agree with it but don't pretend that is anywhere near the same thing as what Donald Trump is saying now.
@Truthrus: Hillary's bill protected flag burning in protest while criminalizing it in provocation. "Fighting words" are not protected speech. Points deducted for making it a bill, points deducted for making it a bill that is redundant, points awarded for protecting the right to protest. Trump's real problem statement is revocation of citizenship, which takes this from "ill advised" to "disastrous." Did Hillary include that in the SB she sponsored? Would you agree that Trump's idea is thus absolutely worse?
@Frank: I am a veteran and I have a deep and abiding belief in protection of unpopular speech, including burning the flag. My feelings are not what need protecting from the government, but instead peoples' right to express their grievances. So even if I was made to feel sick by seeing it, I feel sick about a lot of the protected speech that flies around this country.
My dad volunteered for WW2 when he was 17. 17 years old! He & millions of other boys did the same in order to protect the American Flag. He passed last month at the age of 90. His casket was covered with the American flag! Let me ask all those "freedom of speech" supppoters, if that was your dad or brother or aister, who fought for our country, do you feel ok with some idiot burning our flag? Use a maegaphone, you piece of poop!!
And so did Hillary, she sponsored a bill trying to do the same. But that is an inconvenient truth that you wont mention. And laws along with court rulings change. and something else is then established law. And any time tupper says I would think, a reasonable person somewhere wishes he would.
I just hope that this rhetorical hand job was pleasing to its intended audience. Burning the flag in protest is protected speech as a matter of settled case law, but also revocation of citizenship is forbidden as a violation of the 8th Amendment as a matter of settled case law.
In unrelated news, Trump Org settled a fraud case with the state of NY for $25 million dollars, something that would normally flag a company as "never do business with these people again" under federal contracting practices. Welcome to Trump's America.
I would think that any president-elect that does not support free-speech should lose their citizenship AND spend a year in jail just before being ousted from this GREAT nation.
In this case the Supremacy Clause would take effect which is part of article VI of the Constitution. The supremacy clause contains what's known as the doctrine of pre-emption, which says that the federal government wins in the case of conflicting legislation.
Thank you for your comment Grammarpolice... I will do my best to answer your question....First of all...There are 3 camps and Sacred Stone is one of them. There is also Rosebud camp and Oceti Sakowin. All are here to stop the pipeline.
We are camped with Rosebud Lakota and have made our home there.
This land is sacred land and we are humble guests here to serve the tribes. I would encourage you to listen to elders on how you can serve the natives and their mission best. That may mean coming to stand on the frontlines, serving in the kitchen, fundraising for purpose, helping with building, child care, elderly care, assisting in the medical departments, helping with legal, stripping tipi poles, cutting fire wood..... Whatever your calling, come to serve and work and offer your gifts but Please come prepared and ready for winter... blizzard kind of winter. Pray about how you can serve the best with the offerings you have. Noone is saying not to come, they are saying...yes come.. but this is not a festival or air b&b standing rock. This is a time of ceremony and prayer. We don't want to be a drain on the movement. We want everyone to be safe. If you decide to come...there is an orientation meeting every morning at 9 am. Come to this meeting the first morning and get dialed in. We are here to honor the Lakota ways and stay in peaceful prayer and ceremony. It is our honor to be here and our duty to educate ourselves on the true history and also the practices of the people.
There are many people coming with good intentions but are not working as much as they are eating and hanging out. Let's check ourselves. THIS IS NOT A FESTIVAL. Do not come if you are going to be a drain on the precious resources for winter. There are so many natives, elders, security guards and families that have been here a long time who don't have suitable warm winter homes yet. I feel like we need to make sure our native brothers and sisters are well taken care of first. This is my personal view. There are drones of people coming, which is beautiful! Let us do our best to walk thoughtfully and intentionally in this movement though. Listen to the elders and use your gifts in service. Together, UNITED, ONLY IN PEACE, forgiveness and compassion can we defeat the black snake and walk towards honoring the treaties and healing.
Interesting since the Sacred Stone Camp are actually are calling for people to stop coming. You can read it on their own Facebook page.
"Dear allies: we have asked this before, and we will ask it again. Please do not set up crowdfunding pages to simply bring yourself to Standing Rock if you are not coordinating with indigenous people on the ground. It is very very hard to organize on the ground, it is very difficult to gauge needs, navigate the camps, navigate power dynamics, communicate etc. We are here, and we have been working hard on this campaign, and we need your support. We do not need you to come and save us, we need your prayers and your resources and your actions. Please look around yourself if you are at camp, and consider the dynamic. Are you creating space that is dominantly non-indigenous? If so, please consider that this is a furthering of colonization, and take action to step back, and recenter indigenous sovereignty. If you have raised funds for yourself, please find a camp here to donate to: http://sacredstonecamp.org/donate/"
Women will want to run and will run and should run !
This has never been about her as a woman despite her cries otherwise.
Yes Hilary, we would all love to see a woman president one day... just not YOU.
It has been a distinct honor to be the Working Families and Democratic Nominee for South Carolina State House of Representatives District 114.
I am very proud of the 7,487 votes I received, which is the highest number of votes for a candidate not running as a Republican in the 114th district in over 20 years. I consider each one of those votes as an obligation for me to continue to speak out for millions of hard-working people that are not being listened to by the establishment in Columbia. My campaign for SC House 114 is over, but my fight for working families will never end
I offer heartfelt thanks to everyone that has given me support in this campaign, any success I had would have been impossible without you.
Jim Clyburn ought to retire now that both he and the Democrat Party have been discredited.
Check out this insane footage of the anti Milo Yiannopoulos protest @ DePaul University. MUST WATCH! https://youtu.be/vn-l3C8kn94?list=PLoQTg3myRNTeBbH_wcuw6VEX77ZiFst8H
Where is the evidence that Roof is guilty of anything?
as does Scott
Well, if Nikki wants the job, she had better wear the low-cut short dress and stilettos
