Being British it is often fun to read about new people experiencing cricket — the story was linked on a cricket news feed — and this was an enjoyable read.
One thing I did want to add though is that some fielders do wear helmets and padding if they stand close to the wicket. "Silly mid on" is such a fielding position, named as such for the following reasons:
"On," because they stand on the on-side, the half of the field behind the batter. The side the batter faces is the off-side and there is correspondingly a silly mid off.
"Mid," because they are positioned parallel to the the middle of the wicket.
And "Silly" because being only three or four yards from a batter who may hit a ball bowled at speeds of up to 100mph directly towards you is a very silly place to stand!
This was posted to me Sat abt 6:00 pm. as it has been for some time. What good is posting Fri events, on Fri night ? You seem to be making decisions based on definition, rather than logic. Regardless of what you "call" the weekend. You should post on Thurs. so that people can PLAN their weekend, not be made aware of what they missed.
I'll just include you on the faxes I send to Pronghorn.
Sam, would it be possible for you to text me events straight to my phone as you hear about them in the Charleston area? Dan is spot on. How I am I supposed to go to a Friday event if I don't read your article until Sunday? Makes no sense whatsoever.
This is the Weekend Roundup.
The term 'Weekend' refers to the time, roughly, between close of business Friday, and the end of the day on Sunday.
This was posted on Friday, March 20, 2015. It has events on Friday evening, Saturday, and Sunday.
So, we call it the Weekend Roundup.
Thanks a lot CP, for the info on events....THAT TOOK PLACE TWO DAYS AGO !!!!
(late Sat. afternoon) WHY DON'T YOU LIST WEEKEND ACTIVITIES, "BEFORE" THE WEEKEND ????? LIKE MAYBE THURSDAY !!
