It would matter even more if the Democrats had run a Democrat.

Re: “The Agenda: Johns Island TIF nixed, Capt. Sam's Spit to be reheard, SC-1 home stretch

This was all Jenny’s Sanford's fault, she let herself “go” and forced Mark to outsource their martial relations to Argentina. Now Jenny is one of the “takers” that Mitt warned us about with her excessive alimony and so called “child support” demands! Typical lazy and unmotivated US worker that Mark so often talks about! Besides, Gov Nikki Haley supports Mark Sanford - Adulterers are US! or is it "Birds of a feather?"

Mark only used our Tax Dollars because he could get some hot Argentina poontang, and any red blooded family values guy can understand that, I understand why his hysterical and emotional opponent does not.

Further, his son put Mark in a bad situation (and should apologize to SC Voters) by wanting to leave the Superbowl party. What was Mark to do – the only place this new technology called “Television” is available is in downtown Charleston and Jenny’s house.

Re: “Green Party candidate wasn't invited to SC-1 debate

Mr Platt certainly won't be receiving any hate mail from me. I don't vote along party lines either. I just think vetting candidates and weighing out the consiquences of voting third party is part of the democratic process, especially with an election this close.

For the record: Beach Company tools Elliot Summey, Vic Rawl, and Teddy Pryor were for the TIF / taxpayer funded handout before they were against it.

Re: “Green Party candidate wasn't invited to SC-1 debate

If you decide to run for public office don't be so offended when voters have questions and raise issues when responding to your own news article. From this article and the responses I can only conclude that this is an anti establishment campaign which does nothing to promote green policy. There was another candidate John Steinberger who ran against Bobby Harrell. That shows how in touch you are with reality. If someone wants to throw their vote away on a third party candidate I can think of better choices than the local green party who don't even care about green issues.

Ted Cruz was not born in the USA and he was educated by a liberal elite institution. So, it will be nothing less than amazing watching Republicans rally behind him.

Re: “Hustler publisher Larry Flynt endorses "sex pioneer" Mark Sanford

Ha! I think a mockery SHOULD be made of this election and every race where hypocrite, knuckle-dragging, republican, "family value", Jeeezus-loving, gun-toting, confederate flag-waving, "small government" (unless of course, you want an abortion or gay marriage...), redneck candidates are running.

Flynt is perfect for Sanford...I think the ad should have run, especially if the ad had no nudity or profanity in it. In a state where elected officials have called the president a liar in the middle of a speech in front of hundreds of millions of viewers around the world and officials that have made public statements comparing poor kids who get free lunch to "animals" (that if you feed them they will never go away- because what conservative wants poor, mostly minority kids to get an education anyway?...), I find it hard to believe that somehow an ad "mocking" our ridiculous state politics is compromising the apparently non-existent "standards" of SC voters. The fact that any of these republicans in charge actually hold an office speaks to the absence of standards that SC voters have applied to candidates and is the reason why SC has been fighting Mississippi for BOTTOM since reconstruction.

Sanford will probably win. And voters of SC will continue their role as a prolific well-spring for late night monologues. It seems appropriate thatHustler magazine would be in on it somehow.

Re: “Green Party candidate wasn't invited to SC-1 debate

I was just pointing out why the Green Party didn't have the 10% polling requirement for the debate. From the responses here I can only conclude that some of the local Green Party does indeed have hostility issues and resort to personal attacks with anyone they don't agree with or understand.

Re: “Green Party candidate wasn't invited to SC-1 debate

To the writer who keeps going on and on about Larry, here's the deal. Larry ran against Bobby Harrell. Harrell, the Republican Speaker of the House. The Democratic Party leaders, perhaps even you, opted to run NO ONE against Harrell, so if it were not for Larry the voters would have had no other choice on the ballot. Not you want to give US a hard time for running a candidate against a Republican so up to his eyeballs in corruption that he's being investigated by SLED? No, I don't think Harrell will do a perp walk. Why? Because gutless Democratic Party leaders would rather WAIT until the pendulum swings back their way so THEY can eat on the Gravy Train.

Look, if Colbert-Busch OR Sanford lose, it's their OWN fault. Not anyone else.

Bottom line, you want to have it both ways. We're so weak that we can have no influence, OR we are so strong that we will determine who wins by entering the race. You can't have it both ways. If we Greens don't matter, don't worry. If we're a force to be reckoned with, then deal with us. We have run fusion campaigns with Democrats in the past, running them on both our line and the Democratic line. I'm not saying that we would have considered Colbert-Busch, but no effort was made.

The VOTERS own their votes Mr. Cecil...not you, not Colbert-Busch, not the corporate parties, not Sanford...indeed, not even Platt. The VOTER decides. Perhaps you would prefer a system where only the elite decide, but as long as there is a shred of a democratic republic in our state, we will exercise OUR rights, whether you whine about it or not.

Re: “Green Party candidate wasn't invited to SC-1 debate

Since the same tired argument is being made in these comments that Greens shouldn't have a voice because it hurts the Dems, I'll reiterate our stance.
The Green Party has advocated for decades for the solution to all this Democratic whining about stealing their votes, it's called a runoff election and it can be done with a single election with Instant Runoff Voting where you simply rank your choices. We already use it in SC for overseas voters, and it's more widely used in cities and states all over the country and around the world.
So Democrats who preferred Platt would rank their ballots #1 Platt, #2 Colbert-Busch, although based on the only poll that was fair enough to include Platt, more voters would rank their ballots #1 Platt, #2 Sanford. The votes are tallied, the 3rd place candidate is eliminated but whoever voted for them has their 2nd choice votes counted instead for the final result. The 2 corporate Parties resist implementing this reform because they agree on so many issues and have total control of the game so they don't want the public to hear viewpoints that challenge the status quo. Third Parties have been valuable sources of new ideas in our democracy for hundreds of years. It's time to stop fearing real change.

Re: “Cops pull 20 marijuana plants from downtown community garden

The drug war is a jobs program for the police.
Were I the paranoid sort, I might say it is to keep
the police levels up to better control the civilian
population if needed.
BTW, ever notice how upset the houses of
superstition get when drug law repeal is
mentioned?
