Re: “Seven-story development at corner of King and Spring streets gains final approval

Wow! I am impressed. What a fabulous building. Just cannot wait. Another Mike Brady designed Architectural Gem to add to the DT Crown. Mike's been sooooooo busy here lately. Our Stepford Community is only a few years away from complete fruition. So excited to finally be able to say "Hello Buckeyes, Welcome to Anywhere USA".

Re: “The Agenda: Chs. could take West Ashley lot via eminent domain; Senate passes gas tax; Mulvaney takes blame for repeal falter

btw Lynnar, another bit of history -- Trump got access to the land for his casinos in Atlantic City through a sweetheart deal with the Mayor's office. The buildings involved were condemned by the city, taken by eminent domain and then sold to Trump at prices well below market value.

"Are we living in a communist country now?" Another inane and ignorant comment by Lynnar. The US has used eminent domain since the adoption of the Constitution, and the Courts' interpretation of freedom of speech is more liberal now than at any other point in our history. Apparently she got her education of American history and government at the same school as our President.

Re: “The Agenda: Chs. could take West Ashley lot via eminent domain; Senate passes gas tax; Mulvaney takes blame for repeal falter

I'm not in support of the City's use of eminent domain for the old Piggly Wiggly property in West Ashley. It becomes a slippery slope to all property owners. I understand that the Sunoco gas station was a bad fit for many reasons (it's the gateway to West Ashley, had an awful design and use of property, neighborhoods strongly rejected the idea, etc.) I was against that use, but for the City to "take" this property so that it will become a "park", well that's ludicrous! This area is extremely dangerous with merging roads, to begin with. A park is an ill conceived idea. Too bad Whole Foods or Trader Joe's couldn't see this property as a viable area to open their stores. Perhaps it should be developed as a mixed use for retail and offices????

Yeah. Design sucks. They should have made them use hardiplank on the exterior so it looks like Charleston.

This eminent domain is not good! Are we living in a communist country now? Gee, I guess we are. Seems we are losing our freedom of speech now. So why not take some property you own. If they do this, what is next? So, does that mean, the city can decide to just take away my house???? Think about it.....you take an inch, then you take a yard.

This looks like a shopping mall in Atlanta. The last thing it should be called is elegant.

Will any affordable units be allotted? #ilovedowntowntoo. Other cities luxury buildings housed 80/20 units. Charleston needs affordable housing downtown. Why not start here!

That College of Charleston rent revenue will make it work.

Re: “Michael Slager claims to have forgotten statement given to SLED on Walter Scott shooting

Hell...I don't know why Slager and his attorney don't just go one step further with his Preposterous claim and say that he wasn't even there on the day Rodney Scott was murdered.....just say it was his evil twin brother who did it.

Man...an attorney will say and do anything to win Justice for his client....with the emphasis on win, not Justice, and certainly not truth

Re: “The Agenda: Chs. tries to minimize horse spooks; Roof now on federal death row; New Orleans dismantles Confederate monuments

Dlylan roof is obsessed with the Confederate flag? I think liberals are more obsessed with it. The AME murderer had a 3" by 5" flag on a stick. Execute the punk for what he did, but stop using his pale behind as an excuse to remove historical markers and the flag.

Liberte, I like to think that the taxes they use for these renovations is recouped by the income taken in from taxes on the properties, and money spent by tourists who visit the hotels and refurbished beaches.

Beach erosion is a natural geological process. What is unnatural is taxpayers constantly being forced to subsidize wealthy ocean-front homeowners and hotels.

Re: “Emanuel AME pastor speaks out against campaign ad challenging removal of Confederate flag

"it was the murders of nine black parishioners at Emanuel AME Church by an avowed white nationalist that spurred South Carolina lawmakers to take down the Confederate flag that flew outside the Statehouse in Columbia."

The attack was blamed on White Supremacist rhetoric and Symbology, IE: the flag, and its removal was with the intent of reducing racial violence. Since its removal, there have been more instances of racial violence, not less.

Re: “Emanuel AME pastor speaks out against campaign ad challenging removal of Confederate flag

The belief that Our Blessed Flag of Dixie stands for racial hatred is a Yankee lie! We welcome blacks and people of all races AS EQUALS. Bigots like Dylan Roof who misuse our Southern Flag are the exception, not the rule. I support Sheri Few!. And Rev. Pinkney is wrong in saying that events like the Emmanuel Church shooting should not be allowed in politics; those are the very events THAT SHOULD be in politics. That's what motivates folks to do something about them.

Gotta love those fiscal conservatives. Raising taxes is irresponsible. Solution? Let's borrow money!

Few's ad does get one thing right - panic certainly leads to bad laws and poor judgment.

But her political party is the party of panic. Always fearing, always outraged, always reactionary, always on edge. You know, the kind of people you want holding weapons.

Re: “Emanuel AME pastor speaks out against campaign ad challenging removal of Confederate flag

It's not a violation. https://www.irs.gov/uac/charities-churches…

Notably: "the ban by Congress is on political campaign activity regarding a candidate; churches and other 501(c)(3) organizations can engage in a limited amount of lobbying (including ballot measures) and advocate for or against issues that are in the political arena."
