"Dont believe everthing you read or hear"...a comment spoken-but taken to heart? Be careful to discern and a ponder-take a moment to step back and think-" what does the speaker have to gain?" All political runners try to sway you to vote for them-Democrat or Republican. They ALL will twist words and events- because they want your vote. That's it. They dont care about us. Nope-they don't.
Politicians want power, money and the "rush" of applause. Obama is a junior senator who has never passed a bill. Most of us had never heard of him before this year. He says he is qualified as President??? Who is the power behind him? Believe me-he has backers with agendas. I dont think he shops at Wal-mart. I dont think he eats hot dogs. Four years from now he will say that it "wasn't his fault" that it all didn't work out. The next politician will step up and point fingers-it's their job-that's what they do.

I really think that it is very low form to name things after living individuals.
It seemed to start localy with the stadium being named after a sitting mayor. Then the bridge. I have no srious problams with Mayor Riley or Mr. Ravanel, it just troubles me.

I think the "man made global warming" movement is a hoax. I think that Global warming is a fact that cannot be denied.
Where have all the glaciers gone?

They used to cover most of North America and Europe. They have been receding for 10,000 years. I think we are in a cooling phase as part of a warming/cooling fluxuation within a long term warming trend.

I think that we should continue to purchase Arab oil. They have oil and we have food and medicine. However, reducing our consumption and importation will cause the price to drop and make us less vulnerable to supply threats.

All of the above is the most effective direction.
Drilling, nukes, lower vehicle sizes, new tecknology.

Decades away? Money spent putting solar cells on your roof will get you a better rate of return than leaving it in the bank. SCEandG has net metering now, as do most other power co.s in this state. We have many acres of space crying out for solar cells, known to most as mall roofs, school roofs, airport roofs, etc.
Plug in hybrid technology is next year at the soonest, maybe two years. Running your vehicle on mostly electricity in this area means it is running on about 50% non-fossil sources mainly due to the many nuke plants in this state. If there are any Chicken Littles it is the wackos of the anti nuke groups; and if anyone is to blame for global warming it is them.
Wind power is already here says no less than T. Boone Pickins. I've spent plenty of time in Louisiana and Mr. Johnson is correct on this one point, the locals love to fish by the platforms.
Even if global warming turns out to be the "biggest hoax in history", shifting to non- fossil sources will at least eliminate most air pollution. If Mr. Johnson happens to be wrong and scores of trained scientists right, then Charleston's future history will be much like that of Atlantis, beneath the Atlantic ocean. Can we afford that risk?

Ya had me then ya lost me there bud. I think you might be the one asleep at the wheel.

Let's try "History will show" -DENIAL OF- 'man-made global warming' to be one of the biggest hoaxes ever perpetrated, primarily on the people of this country."

So on the one hand Dad Joiner was a genius for bucking conventional wisdom but on the other, the people attempting to develop alternative energy (instead of just trying to squeeze another buck out of a finite and depleted resource) are stupid? How does it ever get developed if no one works on it?

Maybe you're only worried about the next five years but some of the rest of us won't be shuffling around in our Depends just yet.

When I moved to Charleston back in 2001, this place was such a different animal. 4am bar closings, 96 wave, dogs allowed on beaches, pretty much no paid beach parking. Folly Beach sure didn't have as many beach mansion monstrosities (as with most of the beaches). Now, this no beer sales after 2am...well, I am sure James Island will be so happy to have drunkin motorists on the road from Folly that otherwise would be on a bike to Bert's.

Also, The horror that Folly Beach has marijuana (from web comments 7.30.08). "People are acting crazy you know they have to be on something."...Are they are ordering a lot of pizza?! Though, as this big houses get built Folly is less and less what the name represents. Though, I'll still smoke a spliff while I can on Folly beacuase I am such a CRAZY drug addict (a la "Reefer Madness"). No mind alcohol, the worst drug of all (but that is legal.) Don't tread on me. Folly Beach was too good to be true.

yaddie;yaddie;nice try!!!The fact of the matter is that no matter who you are,you must be responsible for your
mistakes in judgement. mr.ravenel screwed up and made a comment that was hateful and uncalled for. then trying to explain it away by dumbing retoric about the word bitch,he made himself look even sillier.yes he did alot for this area but its apparent his time has come to resign rather then making more mistakes and be remembered for them rather then the good he had done in the past.politicians are responsible for their actions and words no matter how old they are or what they did in the past. bye,bye arthur it was nice to know you!!!

Dear Editrix: If there is anything WORSE than whitewashing the past, its whitewashing the present. SC politics can't respond to bleach. An overhaul is in order and SuperPoodle Sanford is UP with passion for that. Too bad a straightjacket is such a wetblanket to the amorous action of reform. Denied foreplay does not advance coziness. Today everyone with a credit card or a home mortgage is a kind of 'slave' compelled to work endlessly in defense of the myth of freedom. We are kicked around by banks and loan agencies and insurance companies and corporate thug-committees and county counsel and the board of education when we dare to object to abuse that follows the cultural urge for comfort and attainment of emblems of legitimacy. Maybe we need another 'AbeLincoln' to remind us that it is possible to live without credit and it is possible to express dignity without selling our soul first. It is possible to be a human being without owning private property or the vain trappings of groupidentity. I can't say how 'terrible' it was before I was born. I can't say how 'horrible' it was for people who died before the birth of my parents. I accept the theory of human suffering and the evidence of history...but the PRESENT compels my most sincere response and attention. Too much energy and time is wasted by gabbers who focus on the past as the most potent totem for social change. Its time to DO something about the problems we face TODAY.

Well, I just think "head up his ass" is perhaps a bit melodramatic and is not exactly the proper term here. He is simply disputing the validity of the report, which the FBI Director of the Uniform Crime Report seconds (I'll presume they know a little sumpin-sumpin about crime statistics). The interpretation of the UCR (in the report in question) is flimsy and nonlinear. The UCR is the standard in crime statistics reporting(at least according to 3 of my college criminology professors), but care and anylitical study is lacking in the CQ rankings. And I don't know if Chief Zumalt feels safe walking with his family at night, but he sure as shit does it regularly anyway. I agree with you that parts of North Chuck look like a warzone, just like parts of the rest of the LowCountry (well, except for those behind gates and MTP, and I know for a fact that Zumalt agrees after more than one personal confrontation with him. btw, perhaps we were neighbors when I resided at Hanover and Line for two years ; )

No one is being an elist. I have frequented Park Circle and the 'Old North Charleston' area quite a bit, as well as other clean, safe areas of North Chuck. As a FORMER RESIDENT of the America/Nassau St. area for nearly TWO YEARS, I will attest that downtown also has shitty streets. Our police chief is just not in denial about it. Noone is saying the N.Charleston chief is not working hard, but what I am saying is that he is in denial. It is NOT his sole responsibility but, the entire communtiy of N. Charleston's responsibility to come together and get your city's name off of that list. And no, I never walked around Nassau St. at night. My own neighborhood.

I agree - N. Charleston has a lot of problems. Neighborhoods that use to be safe to live in (ie Park Circle) are ridden with crime. As someone who use to live in N. Charleston, I'm happy I moved!

Wow, how elitist can you get?!? Perhaps you should take a walk around your fair snow white city, and do the same in North Chuck. You will find pockets of middle class, wealthy, and impoverished in both "Charlestons"...and fyi, I have lived in 4 places in North Charleston over the years, and 3 in Charleston...good and bad neighborhoods alike. Take a stroll down Nassau the next evening you have free and get back with us...you might just spot a loiterer or two in the your holier than thou city.

Craig D-- I wouldn't call those comments insulting of the current person holding the office of President. Americans should do what what one does in a democracy; hold your government, hold your administration to account for its words and deeds.
