dpm, your comment illustrates what I have been saying all along. Liberalism is crippling this country. You have more faith in the terrorists than you do in America (sigh.)
the article in the city paper this week about the supporters of the war in iraq marching across this country is absurd. does anyone think the war in iraq can be won? the terrorists will never be wiped out and will never give up. therefore, the war cannot be won. does anyone think our presence in iraq is preventing terrorists from entering this country? don't be naieve(sp?), america! therefore, the reasoning that withdrawal of troops will allow the terrorists to 'follow us' in to this country after troop withdrawal is ridiculous. this is going to happen with or without troop withdrawal. we need to fight terrorists with targeted, covert attacks with highly specialized, well trained forces. the inadequately trained, undersupplied troops in iraq now are target practice for the terrorists. the sectarian violence we have ignited by destabilizing the country is another story. i don't think our presence or absence in iraq will impact on this problem in any way. this is a problem the iraqis need to solve.
All Charleston, All the time...
To the person who wrote this...think about it; you are talking to the people who keep voting Joe Riley back into office!!
Why is there such complaining about 96 Wave? I have liked all of their employees and music for 20 years. The Wave staff has always appreciated their supporters and as long as they don't play any Eagles crap, Fleetwood Mac, Blinded by the light wrapped up like a douche another runner in the night, and Margaritaville-style commercial radio sap songs I will continue to support them. I never get up before 10:30 am so I never listened to the Storm and Kenny show so what's the big deal? Dave Rossi was doing the best he could and I wish him well. He can return to 96 Wave anytime as far as I am concerned. Keep on rockin' 96 Wave, you are the best station Charleston has ever had and will ever have.
i think it is an unfair generalization to say 'america denies slavery existed' as the majority of individuals in this country do not feel this way. i think it is important that african americans understand and admit that slavery existed in africa before white slave traders arrived (africans captured during wars among tribes were enslaved). african tribes sold their fellow africans to the white slave traders. africans who sold the slaves AND the white slave traders/owners committed horrible injustices. i think most americans agree on these points. at some point, african americans need to move forward and not blame current generations for slavery. likewise, racial intolerance is unacceptable and will continue to make the world the dangerous place it is today.
Ladies and gentlemen, the above poster is what happens when you send your child to a government school; irrationality, ignorance, fear of logic and ideas.
America is built on blood, racism, and lies! Obama can be the best candidate for the Presidency but AQmerica will never elect a African desendent in the chair! So there is no need to fool ourselves or get our hopes up high! America still denies slavery existed, so how can Obama become President?
Right on Joe! America is hungry for socialism, and Hussein is ready to deliver.
one clarification, liberalism does not meet dsm criteria for a mental disorder. i believe auditory and visual hallucinations do (visions of/hearing deities/religious figures).
DPM, there is no difference between a liberal and a socialist.
not everyone who disagrees with your view of life is a socialist and/or liberal. by the way, didn't jesus preach tolerance. it might be time for you to practice what jesus preached. keep in mind that it is the extremists (christian, muslim, liberal, conservative) that make this world a dangerous place. didn't jesus teach people to love their fellow man. you are not exactly following the teachings of jesus, are you? your comments suggest you believe fear plays a role in religion. you must be catholic which is definitely fear-based. would jesus have wanted this interpretations of his teachings? i think not.
i can see you are at it again. i admire your zeal but it is the religious zealots (muslim AND christian) who make this world a dangerous place. by the way, not everyone who disagrees with you is a liberal and/or socialist. a somewhat narrowminded view of those who offer a different opinion from your own, don't you think?
If Scott wants to teach his children the joys of socialism in the privacy of his home, that bothers me not. But when he insists on forcing his liberal nonsense down my childs throat in the public realm, he as crossed the line, and he's going to hear about it long and loud. Of course there is only one religious figure Scott harbours a seething hatred for. He understands that this man that died two-thousand years ago is the one thing standing between Scott and his dreams of an all powerful federal government.
dpm, we have no more control over what our "representatives" in Washington will do, than we have over the outcome of the Superbowl. All I can do is pray.
To liberals/socialists, the Christians who note moral weaknesses within people are the real danger, not the moral weaknesses themselves. Liberalism truly is a mental disorder. The most dangerous one we face.
john allens wording last week may have seemed elementary but he expressed valid points. fran mickey and douglas gleason can kiss my and john's ass as they ride the hot rails to hell...and john cox assumes that throwing money at any social problem will fix it. that's o.k., there won't be an america to fix after his muslim terrorist boyfrieds blow us all to hell.
i have truly enjoyed our exchange of opinions but i think we are far off the original subject and likely boring city paper readers with our babble. just a few last thoughts. first, i vote issues not along party lines. second, i enjoy my current financial status far too much to want socialism. third, i would certainly not vote strictly republican when our republican 'leader' is fighting a war in iraq to protect the financial interests of those 'in bed' with the saudis i.e. the bush family, dick cheney to name a few. this has not been a humanitarian war to rid iraq of its tyrant otherwise we would also be in darfur and other african countries preventing the mass slaughter and attempted genocide of innocent individuals. our republican 'leader' ,who i am positive you support, should be ashamed of himself for turning a blind eye to the plight of these people. how can he claim to be a good christian? somewhat hypocritical i am sure you will agree.
these are my final comments to you. i have enjoyed our discussions, look forward to your pointed response.
best of luck,
dpm, no doubt this will be an unsatisfactory answer, but I see proof of God everywhere every day. But, back to Jesus(God.) the New Testament is nothing but eyewitness accounts of Jesus's life. From what I've read, the gospels are some of the most undisputed historical documents ever studied. It's that whole rising from the dead, the important part, part that goes against everything you and I have ever known. Anyway, I can make assumptions about you from your posts. I assume that you vote Democrat. Whether you realize it or not, or want to admit, this means you suppourt socialism. I now ask for proof that socialism works. We'd have an easier time proving the existence of God.
detached from reality?? hmmm.you believe in the existence of a supreme being-god-for which there is aboslutely no evidence to support your belief. call it faith but you still have no proof. there is as much evidence for the existence of santa claus and the easter bunny as there is for a god.
the most important and final point i will make is as follows: if a god/gods does/do exist, the greatest gift he/she/they has/have given us is ethnic/racial/cultural and religious diversity. this world would be a better place if we appreciated and respected this diversity.
dpm, you are from the camp that believes people are basically good, and this being America, you have the right to your opinion, no matter how detached from reality it may be. I'll try and explain again. Jesus's message was that he loves us so much, he was going to save us from the fate that we all deserve, by placing the burden on himself.
