Everything the city does a "trial run" of that generates profit, usually sticks and most of the time spreads.....
Clearly there is not enough "legal" bike parking available, especially when one considers the convenience of such parking. While I appreciate having more bike racks on the streets and in local parking garages, one of the best perks about biking is that I can lock up at my destination. I don't want to walk 4 blocks from the bike rack to the restaurant/bar/store I'm patronizing, so until there are numerous bike racks on every street corner, I'll keep using the closest tree.
Mr. Hamilton is correct. The ordinance is a "one-year trial" and applies only to the stretch of King between Calhoun and Spring Streets.
Nevertheless, Charleston Moves formally objected to passage of the ordinance. Why? Because no one has demonstrated that the amount of bike parking provided is appropriate to the burgeoning demand. And, especially in view of that fact, the effect of the ordinance is to suppress the use of bicycles at precisely the time when their use should be enthusiastically supported.
It is troubling now to see how vigorously it is being enforced. People should remember that many who ride bikes choose this mode of transportation not for frivolous reasons, but as a matter of dealing with their own economic realities.

This isn't accurate. This ordinance applies to only part of the city. It's misleading to suggest it covers the entire peninsula.
Don't worry. The President is bringing in the big brains to fix the healthcare website.
On Monday, Eva Longoria will be arriving with her nerdy, yet fashionable, non-prescription eyeglasses.
Nice to see something from Steglin, that is critical of the President.
The way to make a dent in the arrogance of our public officials is to put an end to the commercialization of religious holidays. Neither the Tea Party or Occupy Movements can make a dent in a political system that is essentially rigged. The only chance to change the direction this country is going in is to stop subsidizing the liberal media and make the politicians take notice is to stop promoting the "Santa Claus" syndrome that leads so many to the false belief you can buy happiness and many other to believe you can get something for nothing. With the new taxes that will come out of Obamacare, you seriously cannot afford very much Christmas spending. Take away the tax revenues government realizes from holiday spending and see how quickly the focus shifts back on the wishes of the middle class. Join the Anti-Materialism Movement today and you will see a different America in 2014. Unless of course Obama mandates Christians spend a certain amount on such holidays and fines those who don't.
We have Navigators working in Charleston today and everyday who are happy to help sign anyone who wants up for healthcare right now, using paper forms. No website required. It is working. You mail in your application and a customized order form for your coverage is returned in the mail. You pick your coverage from a menu and mail the order form back with a check. We'll be doing this in North Charleston Saturday Morning and we have people working all over town every day. Just call and our Navigators and volunteers will sit down with you and get this done. Here is our link for our Saturday event. .https://www.facebook.com/events/5432936590…

It isn't the "L" word it's the "B" word. Benghazi! over and over and over. Graham's bill is a total affront to the women of SC. Just plain nuts = Lindsey!
Because Ted (I'm not Canadian) Cruz said (with others) that the Tea Party would shut down the government unless the ACA was defunded starting back in September or August. Obama then replied "I won't negotiate" leaving the "with terrorists" part as understood...
Wasn't it President Obama who said, "I won't negotiate."? Yes. I think it was. So why is it the artist put that bubble above Sen. Cruz? Biased much?
Only non-essential employees are furloughed ... begging the question: "With over $16 TRILLION IN DEBT, why do we have non-essential employees in the first place?!"
It has now been 9 days since the government "shutdown" and the world has hardly come to an end. I say good riddance. The talking heads on TV say that the Republicans are to blame and are close to caving in. I say, "Don't!" What they and others who promote a leaner government should be touting is that we can obviously do with less – much less in fact. I'd wager that most people (other than the furloughed employees of our over bloated government) would hardly notice the difference. Although furlough may be the wrong term, as that implies an unpaid leave – and all the federal employees will get their back pay when this all blows over. They will all be paid for doing nothing during this time. Is this a great country or what? Our government is so enthralled with entitlements that when it doesn't feel they are providing enough handouts, it manufactures a way to provide it's own employees a free ride as well. Happy vacation! But don't be surprised if when you return you find that the nation has realized that we can live without you just fine. It's not that I am completely unsympathetic to the people who have been temporarily laid off. I realize that this effects real people. There are families who have really been struggling to make ends meet for the past week. But many in this country have been laid off in the past few years with no hope of being reinstated in a couple of days. Welcome to the club. Sorry your inclusion will be so short and that you'll soon go back to your over paid, over perked, and mostly superfluous positions.
I am curious, however, as to who in our government decides which employes and departments are expendable? What stays open and what doesn't? Who writes the pink slips? Personally, instead of sending home the park rangers and commissary employees, I'd start with the army of drivers, assistants, secretaries PR agents and staffers that support our ineffectual representatives. Let the SOBs fend for themselves for a few days, and I bet this issue would be incredibly short lived.
So very, very true. :(
What did we blame mass murder on before video games?
Oh, you thought this was something new? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_rampa…
The NRA is way off base here. Everyone knows Marilyn Manson is to blame for mass shootings. Have we learned nothing since Columbine?
Obviously Pulitzer material here.
Probably should take this week's cartoon down, Steve. It might save you any further ridicule. Since Daniel Island is already part of the City. Joe wouldn't have wanted it any other way. Do much research before you draw this out?
Um....Daniel Island is part of the City of Charleston already, little Joe wouldn't get any more money if they switched counties.
Obama should just troll everyone and bomb Israel.
