The bands being added into the clubs has been an ever growing popularity with club owners. We have started to see clubs in Chicago begin the same style of promotion, including Atlantis in Ford Heights, IL. It has started to work out well, but does this drive away the regulars that spend money because they just want the usual entertainment instead of the foreign?

To each his own. I personally think it's great what Megan, Jeff and Carpe Noctem are doing. "entertainment complex" sums it up. It's a rebirth of fun and business. If it's not your thing, for whatever your reasons, smoke, strip club stigma, etc, then don't go, no one is forcing you to, but to those who are looking for a night of fun in all kinds of different ways, even going to the point of offering a comedy night w/o dancers to appeal to their customers, then it's a great way to change up the scene and keep the business in the area flowing. Raising money for a good cause doesn't hurt either! Very cool
I really don't understand why you felt the need to completely overlook the bands that opened for Sparxxx.
You don't even mention the name of the two opening acts, and then to add insult to injury you give the impression that everyone who was there was only there to see the main act.
You must hold a special place in your heart for "Ms. New Booty" because you sure do give a lot of undeserving credit to Mr. Sparxxx.
I can assure you that a majority of people in attendance were there for the sole purpose of supporting one of the two local bands performing that night.
In fact most people, including myself, would normally never step foot in that type of establishment unless a friend asked me to come out and support his band.
Do a better job next time you decide to tackle an article regarding music in the local area and support your local bands please!!!!!!!
musicgal, come on now. I'm a supporter of local acts trying to make it, but your statement that EOD "brought in more people than Bubba himself" is a grossly incorrect statement. They had a solid crowd, but the crowd more than doubled, probably tripled when Bubba took the stage. If they truly could sell more tickets than a national act like Bubba, they wouldn't be local anymore. They would be getting paid the 5-10k that he's getting per show. Not trying to sound like an ass, just stating the truth. Best of luck to EOD
"Believe it or not, there's a lot of people that've never been in a club around here. I guess it's the stigma that it's dirty, that it's a trashy place,"
Maybe people won't go there because the place is a health hazard due to the tobacco smoke.
This was a very good article and it's make a serious point. The Belle is an untapped source of entertainment that has virtually dried up in Charleston. With places like the Plex vanishing from the scene several years ago a real venue for real music has seemed as non existent as the clothes on the girls at the Belle. Now comes the Belle again. Bravo Jeff and Meg the push that you're doing is going to pay off eventually. The farm is floundering since the new owners took over and all the belle needs to do is bide it's time and before you know it you'll become the powerhouse that Charleston is in need of resurrecting.
More sluts in the news. And now a band on stage while there are sluts around. Surprise, surprise. Yeah, that's just huge news.
I just wish the news referred to them as sluts rather than "ladies"--talk about an abuse of the word.
WOW, I am SHOCKED that there is NO LOVE for the openers! I really thought Charleston City Paper was more of a supporter of the "Local Scene". I was at the show from start to finish, and I have to disagree with the statement "Around 10:30 p.m., the Bubba Sparxxx show officially gets going. A nu-metal band plays first, pumping up the audience of about 100. A local rap group is next, but people are really just waiting for the main act." The "nu-metal" band EOD, brought in more people than Bubba himself. Come on chick, show love for your homegrown music scene. We are the ones, after all, that read the City Paper.. SUPPORT LOCAL MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!
WTG Miss Megan!!! I always knew you had it in you!! Very proud of you and Jeff "The King of The Tittie Bars" knows his s..t! Love ya both, T Ray
That should be "Carpe NoctEM". Just sayin'.
EOD was the "Nu-metal" band. Much more worth writing about than Sparxx and I had never seen them before.
Left Aesthetic was the hip-hop band and one of their guys got an invitation to be on BET's 106& Park.
Susan, you could have given the guys in Left Aesthetic (who opened for Bubba Sparxx) some credit and exposure by adding two words to the article. What gives? I thought CP was all about supporting local music.

A lifetime of sun exposure causes most of the skin damages, and usually these damages, which include wrinkles, dark spots, uneven skin, and dryness, appear later in life. But because they tend to manifest slowly, these damages are all too often ignored. Protect your skin from the sun, particularly from the damaging UV rays, early on and use sunscreen protection. The purpose of the article was to introduce a person whose life is dedicated to love, compassion, teaching and caring, to bad you missed that.
Dude, let it go.
My editor says that he didn't know this was a rough version of the story. Of course, I trust his judgment as to what goes in the paper and he obviously saw it fit to print.
The line about cobras in the jungle paraphrased Geshe-la's own words from an extensive interview. I'm amazed by what he's achieved after everything he went through.
Hi pissedoff,
This was a rough version of the article that I sent to my editor to take a look at before I cleaned it up. Next thing I knew, it was in print. I hope you enjoyed this glimpse of an in-progress story.

I commend and support Tpoygal, I could be a fan, but Nick Smith, the author - not so much. Nick, this is not a 10th Grade essay assignment. Yeah, set the mood, but come on!. I got to the line about "hearing the cobras" as he was put by his parents into a tent in the "moonlit jungle," re-read it twice, yeah, it says here he heard cobras in the moonlight, and threw the paper into the trash can. After crap like that, all I could here was the gentle hissing of a little more of City Paper's credibility leaving the building.
Geshe-la is truly an inspiration. His demeanor and wisdom brightens many a persons' day, and we could all learn alot from him.
Re: “A local strip club adapts to a changing economy”
Porichman, I completely disagree with you. Bubba is a HAS BEEN, most of the people that night were there to support the local acts.. I know because majority of the people in the crowd were personal friends that EOD and Left Asthetic brought. It doesnt really matter who brought what crowd, the fact remains that if you are a local "city paper" you really should support your "local CITY scene"
