nobody likes bmxers their to big and all the do is snake people and if your in their way they don't stop takes up way to much space makes me paranoid when i try to skate ive been hit by them to many times
The fact that this is still an issue in people eyes is ridiculous. I don't understand where they get this "skateboarders MUST hate bikers" mentality. WE ARE ALL DOING WHAT WE LOVE. Why does one have to get punished for it? Get your minds out of the prehistoric ages and start thinking about NOW. Times have changed, we aren't all little kids now, we know what skatepark etiquette is and we know how to use it. So please, I'm pretty sure I say this for all BMX riders: LET US RIDE THE PARK!
A properly built park will withstand any peg abuse - just don't include pool coping (because skate trucks damage it just as much as pegs do, and I have proof) and use the proper concrete mix.
Mixed sessions work at parks all over the country, but they would work much better if skateparks & local shops taught younger uses the nuances of park etiquette. It's the younger kids who drop in on each other/older riders, don't look both ways and hurt themselves.
Personally, I have been discriminated against by skateboarders numerous times over the years, both with fundraising efforts & in sharing common spaces like parks & pools. Not everyone is like this, but its an unnecessary stigma for 2 similar groups who have existed for the same amount of time. Facilities like this cost a lot of money, and it's almost unheard of for cities to build 2 separate parks to keep the groups from mingling. It's time to grow up.
i mean im a skateboarder but I like bmxers bc I used to be one for about 3 years but now im skating for accompany called odyssey board shop and I get along with bmxers great and soo what if they might mess it up just skate around it its not like its a 3 foot wide dent or something just give them a break we all want a skatepark there so we have to share it to all kind bmx skate scooter and even rollerblades ok
Problem is that it is right there at the College of Charleston, which just built a refined piece of architecture with their athletic center, and not too far from their library which is acceptable also. This is an horrendous mistake, about like the C of C building across from the C of C Library. In a word, Ycch!
designated peg times like 1-5 but no pegs anytime. because we all take the risk of getting hurt in these sports no matter what. but i do believe pegs and skateboarders dont mix.
I rode the north Charleston skate park yesterday. Skaters, bikers, roller blades, scotters and even a kid on oldschool roller skates rode In one relatively small skatepark. There is no controversy between people using the park because there is no controversy between the park and the people that want to use it. If were put together, we ride together. Segregate us and we will stay segregated. As far as damage to the surfaces go... plastic pegs, pedals and bar ends. Skateboard trucks are metal.Boom.
Skaters should be called haters... when you take into consideration the ignoring and belittling skaters do to the riders, you wonder why we don't get along.. .think of how much better people would get along when they can share their sports and stories. ..I believe whole heartedly that those of you who don't
want to allow bmx at this park are just another reason
for kids that don't skate to stay on the streets and in traffic.
I was at that meeting and not a whole lot of love from the skaters. I think we should and can get along. BMX racing is an Olympic and a family sport of all ages. Another thing don't the X Games have skaters and BMXers using the same courses at the same event at the same time? Just saying!!!
come on what is wrong with bmx nothing let us in i mean we do not destroy ramps at all.skate park of Charleston lets bmx and it works out fine and if you agree vote yes always
im an avid bmxer and face some discrimination from time to time about being an extreme sports minority. and i believe that the reason for the so called lack of bmxers being involved is because no skater wants a bmxer at their park because of the issue of sharing the park. whenever i go to a park, if u do happen to bump into each other, or get in one another way, usually the skater just gets pissed and says something like "this is a SKATE park." We need equality at this park, and a little friendship wouldnt hurt either.
I cannot believe how many people have answered no. The Louisville Extreme park allows bikes 24/7 and it works out perfectly.
On any given year more injuries come from the skateboarder and roller bladers that bikers.
Lastly, by allowing bikes kids are encouraged to "get up" and engage in a more active lifestyle. COME ON CHARLESTON!
How sad....... BMX in the Charleston area has produced numerous National Champions and a UCI World Champion but the area continues to ignore the new Olympic sport.
BMX is a family sport for all ages, get with the program Lowcountry.
Wow, I'm suprised by the no way jose votes.
poor Paul, afraid to break with your old boss Cathy? I will not lie for Publix as you are defending the indefesible cHIK FILTHY A.... this bigot chicken store is WORSE THAN MAURICE BESSINGER BBQ.... in the million$ that harm innocent gays & lesbians... and boycotts do work historically when alleged liberals raise one voice against South Africa divesting of apartheid or pushing Glenn Beck off the tv or Rush Limboss to lose sponsors we oppose.... Publix is so greedy that they refuse one more penny per pound for the Imolakee Tribe stooping to deliver us our tomatoes.... telling lies for the boss tacitly or implicitly is just as bad as portraying Fellowship of Xian Athletes as unbigoted.... if you had said you were gay in 2007 how long would you have kept your job at low wages? boycott the ENEMIES OF MARRIAGE EQUALITY. period
Good research, Paul. Your political caveats read like acquiescence to the paper's editorial staff and owners.
I don't shop at WalMart, I try like Hell to not buy made in China crap (in many industries it's unavoidable, like bicycles), and I don't buy Chick-fil-A. I will miss the waffle fries, but my local grocery store has them in frozen foods so I won't miss them for long.
I can't afford Chick-fil-A anyway. I am more concerned about art disappearing from South Carolina.
The decision to never patronize this place again was made for me months ago, when I saw their banners and booths plastered all over the Creation Museum. Every day I'm kind of ticked off that they're on the same grounds as the hospital.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I don't claim to know any better what is wrong or right. I admire Chick fil A for having the guts to stand on an issue. Even if I don't agree with them. They put their money where their mouth was. Took the risk. And now the ball is in your court. Put your money where your mouth is. Every dollar is your vote. Personally I wouldn't call it a boycott, but I won't be supporting their agenda. I only crave Chick fil A on Sunday. This is the same situation as a few years ago when the BBQ place would not take down it's Confederate Flag. I voted with dollars then. I am a white man raised in the south, the flag is not offensive to me. I grew up with one on the wall in my room. I played football for the Rebels. However as soon as I became aware that the flag hurt folks, it was a no brainer. It was a part of history, and can not be removed from history, but I don't have to condone offending people. Vote for yourself.
