Re: “Boone's Bar

We had all Of medical school here and they treated us like crap- we brought them business and they even kicked one of us out because he "touched" an empty keg by the bathroom apparently "depressurized" it when he first got here. The service is terrible, watch out! Bad experience.

Re: “Upper Deck Tavern

The male bartender was awesome and he took over in the case of the negligence and rudeness of the female bartender. The female bartender was just plain nasty. She took an order from a guy standing right next to me when i clearly was before him then when i tried to get her attention she yelled "you have to wait a aminute" and served two more customers before me. I asked for Grenadine which they had in a bottle and she grabs a tray of cherries from the holder and poured the juice right in my drink. The other bartender made me a fresh drink but still :-P Also Karaoke Chris was rude. When It was my turn to sing on the Mic. Im an African american female and there was one african american male in the building and I guess it was Chris friend and said on the mic "hey man I couldn't tell the difference between you two" and started laughing to his underlying racial joke. But with my beautiful self i stole the show and he shut up. But Its a shame that 2014 I had was witness to ignorance of this sort in my own hometown. And I will definitely let the world know!!!!!

Re: “Bay Street Biergarten

I didn't go there for the beer (so my rating is for the food only)... and had the Pork Schnitzel and Kaesespaetzle twice now. 1st time I was positively surprised by the taste, 2nd time 2 weeks ago not so much - the Schnitzel was not cooked/fairly raw and the batter didn't even stick to the meat; the Kaesespaetzle had more cheese than Spaetzle and was more like a soup. I know how it's done right, I'm a German. At the community tables it's disruptive if someone wants to use their cards...you got to move out of the way and it seems hard to keep the tables bussed..so you kind of put the previous guest's dishes away to the side yourself and hope a waiter/waitress doesn't think it's yours.
The staff is friendly and accomodating; the atmosphere fairly loud inside and it's a loooong wait for a table. I like the interior and the outside. Hopefully this place gets the kinks worked out - has lots of potential to be the IT-spot.

Re: “Prohibition

I have not had the pleasure of dining there yet, but will tell you that each of the six or so times I have been, I have been able to hear my friends talking, which is uncommon in most of the bars on upper King Street. Sitting back Saturday night and watching a good looking defense end looking Charleston boy show off his shag moves to his girl was just wonderful. You could tell, his mother taught him well. Other your me tried to free style to "Carolina Girl", which just did not cut it with their ladies or the crowd. Girls gathered and swayed, waiting for a guy to come and ask them to shag. They were pretty and the guys just did not get it. That was sad. However, the other fellow stole the floor and he knew it.

Being able to see the jazz guys that used to play at Mistral from afar is awesome and I would never think that I would have seen that in a bar on Upper King Street. Even DJ Matt Todd was setting up as I was leaving, who could often be heard at LIGHT, Peter Evans' place down the street (of Stella Nova fame..) He will nail what the crown and the bar wants - and keeping it on the low key and not loud side will continue to be a pay off for this place.

Finally, NICE ladies at the entrance to meet you, greet you, and help you get a table and identify if you want food service or just drinks. Nice to have someone paying attention to you in a lovely way at the door - the way that it should be.

Re: “Charleston Music Hall

Groundhog Day concert - I didn't know what to expect but the entire show was outstanding. It really showcased the quality and strength of the local music scene here in Charleston.
The Music Hall facility is hands down the best venue for concerts if you want to hear and see the artists.

Re: “Bay Street Biergarten

I like the biergarten's relaxed atmosphere. If the inside gets too crowded or loud my friends and I usually go outside to play a round or two of corn hole with liters of beer in hand. The food is pretty good and I like the selection of beer they have. I have to say out of all the bars in Charleston biergarten probably has the best outside section since they have plenty of space to hang out.

Re: “Trayce's Too Neighborhood Bar & Grill

Went here on Sat. for some beers and listen to some music .Not sure where this band came from (The Cubes), but all I can say is "Wow" !!! Rock music the way it should be played. Very tight band with a 60's flair, hope they play here at Tracey's again, cause I come here often and live close.

Re: “Bay Street Biergarten

Was really looking forward to this place for so long. I've been for lunch and an early afternoon beer, and it is tolerable then. The lunch food I thought was great and pretty affordable. Service at night, though, is pretty terrible (especially if you're a dude). Good luck getting a drink at the bar...and paying a little too much for it. I would just ignore the beer card thing if its not for you...

Re: “Charleston Music Hall

FIVE STARS***** Warren Haynes Band! The best show ever put on at the Music Hall. Vibe was spot on with high energy. Sound was wonderful if not perfect. He may have is own sound man. A Great place to see shows. A sound man can make or break a show.
Would like to see other shows at Charleston Music Hall

Re: “Bay Street Biergarten

To borrow and paraphrase a comment from a friend: If you want to be a sports bar or a frat bar serving buckets of bud light, that's your prerogative and seems to be the business that is carrying you. But don't call yourself a biergarten just to use a hip term when you truly don't cater to the Charleston beer connoisseurs. That's like Taco Bell calling itself authentic Mexican cuisine.

Re: “Bay Street Biergarten

if you are a mindless zombie who follows fads while neglecting quality, you might like this place. if you have even a whisker of taste, you won't waste your time. the food is terrible, the beer is overpriced, there is NOTHING german about it. the only thing they have going is the fact that it is new. it is located next to the projects so don't get jumped while you walk back to your car since there isn't adequate parking. actually, you might be better getting a colt .45 and hanging out on the corner. at least you won't wast too much money. i'd give them some credit for the decor, but it looked the same before the joint was purchased by the current owners. basically it will be one of those places where anyone local will stop going to within a month, and anyone still caught there will be made fun of. look at any of the reviews of this place, google, tripadvisor, etc. they all say the same thing.

P.S. i thought the point of going to a bar was having someone else pour your drinks

Re: “Charleston Music Hall

I agree with Mr Silver, this venue has sounded awesome for any show I've attended until this past October REK show. It was terrible. It was all bass and no vocals and we were in a primo front center balcony spot. I'm going to another show soon and hope the sound's not that bad.

Re: “Charleston Music Hall

Great location, not a bad seat in the house
But The Sound Board Is The Worst I've Heard Maybe He Just Doesn't Like Bluegrass Or Folk. The sound man can make or break a venue
I CAN'T GO BACK TO THE TORTURE
