Re: “Halls Chophouse

I was in the business for over 30 years, managing and owning restaurants. I can not figure out how this family keeps the place packed! Service is rough, food is mediocre in regards to the prices charged.

Re: “Halls Chophouse

I live in Charleston, I went there for Gospel Sunday Brunch with a group of friends and I love it! I plan to go back for the Sunday Brunch. I'd Shake Billy Hall's hand anytime.

Re: “Halls Chophouse

LMAO @ this Folly Beach crowd making up lies about Hall's.

The FACT is they have great food and great service.

Stay off the peninsula if you are going to be jealous and bitter over those doing well.

A prediction - Once Ruth's Chris Steak House opens in the French Quarter, this Hall's joint will be history:

Re: “Halls Chophouse

"I live here and have never heard a single negative comment about the owners or the food." LOL! I live here too, and there's not a person I've been there with or when you mention Hall's to someone who doesn't comment about the owners, the Hall family. Hands down the weirdest, creepiest, most eccentric family in town. Why all four of them have to be there at all times is beyond me when one would do on any given night, its not like they dont have enough employees running the place. Each one you could write a few paragraphs about, and are the talk of many conversations in Charleson. Just the facts, dude!

Re: “Halls Chophouse

Not a former employee, not a competitor. The steaks in this place are the tits. Everything else is lame as shit.

Lil Billy Hall (the one who looks like Farkus from Xmas Story..or the Sherminator from American Pie) hovers around the resaurant and clearly has his minute-to-minute ego wrapped up way too much in this place to be so visible on the floor. The dude is just creepy.

If I really want a GREAT steak, I will prep and cook a great cut myself at home. What you pay for in these places is just as much about atmosphere than food, and this place falls WAY below my bar of dining environments in similarly priced places in Charleston.

Farkus, pump the brakes a bit bru!

Re: “Halls Chophouse

I have read thru many of the comments and find them rather suspicious. The mean spirited comments smack of being posted by disgruntled former employees or jealous competitors since the focus of the complaints are directed at the owners/hosts, not the food.I am a local and have eaten at Halls many times, for both business and family events. I do agree that the prices are high, but I have never walked away disappointed. The food and service have always been excellent. Depending on where you are seated, it can be a little noisy. I prefer the upstairs dining areas since they are more amenable to conversation.

I strongly disagree with the comments that state that locals stay away from Hall's. I live here and have never heard a single negative comment about the owners or the food. Since when is it "creepy" for a business owner to remember your name or to inquire if you were satisfied with your purchase? Charleston is a small town and part of its charm is that local businesses DO remember who you are. I have out-of-town friends who look forward to eating at Hall's and the hosts even remember their names. The food is amazing--try any of the steaks, but the tuna and salmon are wonderful, as well as the corn and brussels sprouts.

Re: “Halls Chophouse

After spending a good deal of time and money at this restaurant, Halls finally showed us their true colors. Dont be fooled by their fake charm like we did. They need a security doorman at the front to handle the drunk unruly patrons who insult and fall over other customers. I felt like i was at a Biker Bar. The Halls and their staff are ineffective and inexperienced to deal with this. I have been to numerous steakhouses over the last 25 years and this would never occur there . Do yourself a favor, go to Oak and be treated properly and professionaly everytime, in addition to getting a much better quality meal.

Re: “Halls Chophouse

No, Linda. There is clearly an organized effort behind what you're doing. You do realize, don't you, that you post after every positive comment or any curious comment about your negative fixation on Halls?
After 2 seconds' worth of searching, I found this:
Halls Chophouse
434 King St., Charleston, SC 29403
8437270090
93 visitor photos
Ranked #1 of 695 restaurants in Charleston
4.5 of 5 stars 825 Reviews
Travellers' Choice award winner Travellers' Choice® 2013 Winner Restaurants

Heh. So out of nearly 700 Charleston restaurants reviewed on Trip Advisor, 825 people volunteered to mention it's the best restaurant in town.
You're really going to have to ramp up your efforts to smear Halls on a larger scale if you'd like to have any effect at all.

Re: “Halls Chophouse

Those are tourists sites and plenty of tourists have bought into Halls, no argument there. The vast majority of locals dissaprove of Hall's. That's why on a locals site you have a overwhelmingly negative opinion of Hall's. If those people went there more than once or twice or talked to locals who know the place and the family, they would obviously have a different opinion of the place. Plus, you are grossly exagerating that there are no negative reviews there, just not as many. Hall's has a well known negative reputation in Charleston, that's why so many locals avoid the place.

Re: “Halls Chophouse

It is hard to believe that any place could be this bad and survive so I looked at yelp and trip advisor and there is not one single negative review nor one negative comment about the family.

In fact the reviews are glowing. something's fishy here.

Re: “Halls Chophouse

Notice everytime there is a poor review by a real person on here, a Hall or a member of their staff will pop up with a magical 5 star review, look at the pattern. Just look at the top comments about Hall's and the number of people who agree with the comment (like it) to know who is running the fake campaign here. And that would be you.

Re: “Halls Chophouse

Seems like someone in town has organized a campaign to attack Hall's on this board, (Charleston is still a very small town-not surprised at this). I've been there four times and found both the service and the food to be excellent. Special requests were handled were handled with alacrity. Found the family members to be very nice. Would definitely go again.

Re: “Halls Chophouse

I have been to Halls twice. Very underwhelming. How they remain in business dumbfounds me. The food was adequate, at best. The "sides" are all a la carte. The portion was small, and cold. When I ordered a beer vs. wine (have you seen the prices for their wines?!!) it was like I had insulted their mother. I agree that if you live locally, go out and buy a good grade of steak and cook your own! I will not return to Halls, and do not recommend it to visitors or others. I don't recommend Aarons, either, but that is another story. Tourist trap.

Re: “Halls Chophouse

Was very dissapointed in our last visit to Hall's. Went on a Friday night with guests in town and had reservations through OpenTable. Show up at 7:30, and they have no tables available, even though they had called earlier that day to confirm out reservations. They seat us at the bar to wait on an available table. Its so loud and drunk people pushing into us, our quests are quite annoyed and ask if we should leave. The old hostess who works there, who is a Hall and part of the ownership, comes up to us every 5 minutes to apologize to us. Not to mention she has horribly bad breath as she has to get right in my face to talk as its so loud in there. We are seated about 20 minutes later. We end up spending easy $100 each on 4 people. Our two guests from Chicago were very unimpressed with the food and our experience there, I thought the food was just ok that night, but not nearly for what you pay when you leave. It wasn't my first time, but Hall's has worn thin on me from the first couple times we went there during the first year. Talking to friends it seems to be wearing thin on just about everyone. Lucky for us, plenty of exciting new restaurants to take Hall's place.

"It's a steak house, idiots. You know what you'll pay, you know what you'll get. Not one person (that I've read) said the food was bad.
What an idiotically small town Charleston is.
Go to your rooms, children."

No, nobody said the food was "bad" but most everyone says the food is way overpriced and the atmosphere is lousy. Look at the top comments for this joint, EVERY one is negative. Look at the top comment, are 74 out of 100 people "fake" or "idiots" because they have a correct opinion of the place. Seems you need to take your own advice about that room, addy.

Re: “Halls Chophouse

So let me get this straight, it's the positive reviews that are the fake ones? Heh. Despite the reviews of being RUFIED, the owner engaged in "either sex or drugs" in the bathroom, the audaciousness of a restaurant being noisy, the incredibly, unutterably rude friendliness of the host, the outrageous ("but mid-priced for steak houses nationwide") prices, and the "OK food." Heh. Ha! Seems to me that there is a serious movement afoot to smear this place.
My favorite: "a girl who works in our office who's roommates with a hostess at Halls says..." Really? REALLY? You, sir or ma'am, have posted in this thread 4x smearing Halls, so your twice removed hearsay really won me over.
It's a steak house, idiots. You know what you'll pay, you know what you'll get. Not one person (that I've read) said the food was bad.

Re: “Halls Chophouse

"The service was attentive without being annoying. 3 of us are vegetarians and loved the scrumptious offerings at this 'steak; restaurant. Great cocktails and an extensive wine list rounded out the experience."

"Our personal experience with Hall's is one of complete enjoyment of the food, the staff, and the over-all experience. Come join us for one of our City's best dinner establishments."

"All of my friends agree. This is the GO TO place in Charleston for steak."

This is not how real people talk. I'm inclined to agree with JDChas.
