My wife and I went to the beach with our dog. As we left we wondered if Red's was dog friendly. They were more than dog friendly, they gave us a great seat on the deck and brought our big dog a bowl of water. Almost every customer and server stopped by our table to pay him some attention.
The service and food were really good and the staff were super friendly.
We've been back twice since then for the all-you-can-eat crab legs and loved it. The wait during summer was pretty bad (it never crossed my mind that it was tourist season until we got there), during the off-season we never had to wait for a table.
Comparing the Seabrook location to the Mt Pleasant location it's hard to believe it's the same restaurant, the vibe is so different. The Mt Pleasant Red's is much more "rustic" and like a bar that happens to serve seafood. If that's your thing great, I prefer the more open and airy Seabrook location for it's laid back atmosphere. It's mid July as I write this and I can hardly wait for September, when I plan to be back at Red's.
Absolutely my favorite seafood restaurant in Charleston!! Great food, excellent service and owned by a local family. Go try it and get hooked.
And Rex Eugene Bolin needs to learn how to spell "roux" and write properly before you criticize it!
Kyle and Jessie are still the best. Shrimp po boy beyond excellent as is the ceviche, scallop po boy and lobster roll. Great oysters and real nice selection. I always start off my meal with a dozen. Still one of my favorite places to go for lunch.
Excellent Food and Excellent Service. - Josh = Best Bartender, Best Waiter, Best Friend. He's just the Best and really knows his F & B. Ask for him and ask for recommendations from him. No, this is not his Mom!
There was a HUGE miscommunication between our party and Shrimp Co. We had a party of about 55 people (give or take) show up unexpectedly. They stepped up to the plate and did an amazing job serving us from the bar as well as from the kitchen. Despite the stress and craziness, their staff was fun, friendly and more than willing to take on the daunting task of having an unexpected party our size. I'll definitely be coming here again and recommending then to everyone I know! P.S. Aside from their awesome service, their BBQ nachos and Crab Cakes are AMAZING!!!
The food is delicious and the people are so friendly and accommodating. Brought my 93 year old mother here for Mother's day and we both had a great time and an even better meal! We've been back a number of times, and plan to keep coming. The She Crab Soup IS the best in town.
Too many great things to write about this place! Everything I've tried so far has been top-notch. Happy that I work close by :-)
So very glad I got to eat the fried chicken and check out this creative and tasty new spot before work pulled me out of Charleston for a few months. It was one of the last things I did before leaving downtown and I can't wait to get back. Best of luck to Brooks and Tim!
This is not the place for the tourist who wants to be spoiled. Thankfully their reviews are caustic and advise others to steer clear of The Wreck.
The absence of overly dressed people with strange accents isn't missed by the locals or thankfully the management. It is authentic creek side fish-shack environment - a great local favorite.
Chicken fried when you order it, fantastic sides, and syrupy sweet tea - what's not to like?
I live on Folly Beach, and as much as I enjoy the beach vibe and permanent vacation atmosphere, I always would find myself driving downtown for quality seafood. As soon as I ate at the Oyster Room shortly after its opening, I was ecstatic. Not only was the food fantastic, but I also was treated warmly in a casual but not too laid back atmosphere. I since have been back at least once a week, and have tried everything on the menu (I always start with the raw oysters and garlic clams). I like that they even have a steak and beef skewers, both of which are delicious, so there really is something for everyone. I work in the restaurant industry, and as a food lover I take my restaurant selections very seriously. This place will not disappoint.
We went in March and everything was absolutely spectacular. The swordfish was the best preparation of fish I've ever had. Went with my parents and a friend, and the bill was totally appropriate for what we ordered (plenty of food and drinks). It's not a place to shuck back 2 dozen oysters, it's a place to order a few very special items that are incredibly fresh and well prepared. I think the menu has gotten bigger since they first opened too... We'll definitely be back!
The Wreck is the anti-restaurant of the Lowcountry food scene in that it is staunchly an unapologetic, old-fashioned seafood shack. Yep, I agree its a bit overpriced as are 99% of the restaurants in the Charleston area thanks to tourism. I moved here from further up the coast from a town known for its fresh local seafood. The Wreck is as good as it gets anywhere for this style of preparation. What is served at the Wreck is the old fashioned fish fry approach. I've had the grilled seafood at the Wreck. It's nowhere near as good as the fried seafood. I can tell you that nowhere will you find better fried oysters or scallops. The outside is crunchy and the inside is succulent and not overcooked every time I've eaten there. It's never greasy. Don't like fried seafood? Then it isn't worth going there. But if you do, there is none better. Just know what you're getting into when you go. Sitting out on the deck drinking a beer and watching the sunset across Shem Creek among the fishing trawlers simply adds to the ambiance. During oyster season they are known for having oyster roasts out on the deck. Don't listen to the blithering nabobs of negativism posting here because they didn't know what they were in for before they got there. This is the best place to go in the Charleston/Mt P area for traditional seafood. Go somewhere else if you want something other than what they have, don't blame the restaurant.
No need to shuck oysters...Take it from a coastal bum who grew up eating seafood, fishing, and crabbing, and lived on the coast all my life! You eat Fried Oysters! Yes, these are the best by far way to eat an oyster if the cooks know how to cook them and they are not all breaded. Salty Waters has some delicious Fried Oysters, and you don't need to shuck them or eat them raw , which is nasty! I will never eat raw seafood in my life. You can't beat fried oysters, clams strips, and fish (salt water fish only). Stop arguing about shucking oysters and eat them the right way , fried!
Bowens Island has been a cool seafood joint for years, but they have recently improved the already wonderful experience. The food is still just as amazing as it used to be. I strongly suggest the fried shrimp and the oysters (when in season). They have really perfected their process of cooking shrimp, and it is always prepared perfectly. What would make the experience better? Well, consider washing that delicious food down with a wonderful local craft beer. Bowens Island now has 10 taps, all devoted to local beer. As far as I know, that makes it the best place to go in Charleston for local craft brews. They have offerings from Palmetto, Holy City, COAST, and Westbrook. You will have a hard time finding a better environment for dining during the cool Fall evenings here in the Lowcountry.

Pearlz is great for happy hour. The menu is very reasonably priced for the quality of food. They have a tuna tartar dish that is a stand out, and the shrimp are perfectly fried. The fish tacos are unremarkable. I'm not an oyster person, so I can't speak for those, but people seem to love them. In addition, the draft beer is always really cold, and the bar tenders and servers are friendly and efficient. I've never had a bad experience at this place.
Garlic crabs we're delicious. Wish it was a small restaurant where you could sit and enjoy your food. It's still a good place to swing by and pick something up.
The best restaurant on Seabrook Island. Lucy's has great food, great bar and a great waitstaff. The only negative I'd have with the place is it tends to get loud when it's busy.
