The food, beer, and coffee was as awesome as the guys running it. Definitely a highlight of our trip!
This is my new favorite restaurant in the city. The food was amazing - unique, extremely well thought out and done, and an overall gastronomic delight. To top it off, the staff was knowledgeable, friendly and personable bringing together the total presentation in a way you just don't find very often. I was with a group from various locations across the country. There were numerous comments that this meal ranked at or near the very top of all meals they'd ever had - both here and abroad I couldn't have been prouder of this local gem. Can't wait to go back.
A "health food" place with No calorie, fat or sugar information available. Pistachios in my no nuts on the ingredients list, Baja style salad. Lemonade was water - not watery, just water. Green tea was also just water! We paid for combos which means a side and a drink, and we all had just water. Counter help was on her phone entire time and made no offer to make anything right. We won't be back!!
Hye, Saturn. You are just completely incorrect....again. Ye Olde Fashioned customers are MAINLY locals. They love the food and the service. That is why they have been around for decades. Must be doing something right, as they are seldom located where the tourists frequent.
Suesig: How much did you get paid by Ye Olde for writing that review?
eek!! scaring me to even try this place. We are always looking to try new GOOD FOOD AND CLEAN facility.
Needs more exhaust fans.
I'd definitely go here for ice cream. Not so much for food as the food disappointed.
The BEST vegetarian/vegan/gluten free joint I've ever been to. I literally could eat the "Snobby Joe" every single day for lunch. Also, check out the Jazzy Pizza.
This place is incredible. So original, so fun, and sooooo delicious. I can't recommend it enough. A must try.
This business has been open for a long time. It's not in a tourist area. You can say whatever, but to say locals avoid it is definitely incorrect.
Hey, Los Saturn, I don't know if you are in the same Charleston as I am, but locals use this place quite frequently. You must have had a bad experience, but please don't say things about the place that are just not true. Best food in Charleston? No. But for what they have, it tastes good, has large portions, and has been around probably longer than you have been alive. Hymans, however, is definitely one to avoid if you live around here. But the lines that form along Meeting St. are those that any restaurant owner would love!
@Los Super Saturn, I would have to disagree. My wife is a local and we love to stop in during the summers and get an ice cream. I have never had a bad experience getting a scoop in a bowl with sprinkles.
Do not be fooled...this is a place locals avoid at all costs - just like Hyman's Seafood and The Wreck!
Although I love the BB Co., they tend to be inconsistent with ingredients, and for the price you pay for their food they truly need to stay on top of things and deliver what customers order. I love that James Islanders can get healthy food on the go that's super tasty. Best wraps on the island since the Daily Dose.
I've been to Park Cafe twice. Pretentious, overpriced and blah food. The restrooms are labeled "WC" like we're in England. I've had the smoked chicken salad and the honey poached turkey sandwiches. Both were fresh and well put together, but just lacking any kind of flavor punch for the price. I prefer the sandwiches at Ted's butcherblock and Sunrise bistro express.
Went to the Summerville location tonight and everything was very good. Attentive staff and everyone enjoyed the food. Will go back for sure!
Don't let the busy nature of the place discourage you. Five Loaves has too good of a sandwich at too reasonable a price point to have it ruined by a bunch of tourist mouthbreathers and indecisive college kids blocking up the sidewalk and entrance. Shoo them away from the door like flies if you must, or glare at them in a threatening way. If push comes to shove, initiate a fist fight with the self-righteous guy from Maryland who doesn't understand why anyone would ever tell his busted wife to allow others to enter the restaurant. Whatever it takes to mark your territory. Or so I've heard.
Anyway, that's how good Five Loaves' sandwiches/salads/soups are. Don't take shit from non-locals and this place will be your bitch in no time.
I recommend the Pork Loin sandwich (formerly known as The Parker), the arugula salad with goat cheese/candied walnuts and the Ultimate BLT on croissant. Get everything on croissant. Can't go wrong with any of them.
Nutella, PB and Marshmallow or grilled PBJ....simply the greatest. Don't care how long it takes, I will wait for my fix. Also, I never catch attitude from anyone here.
