Wow! On Saturday night we had one of the best meals we've ever had in Charleston at Al Di La.
Wow. Al di la is hands down the best Italian food in Charleston. Great food, atmosphere, and staff. Highly recommend the pork and lamb dishes while you are there paired with something from their wine menu. SO GOOD. This restaurant will definitely be a repeat visit on my next trip to Charleston.
Back home is an awesome place for great food and drinks. very friendly staff and a good place to just let go!!! Im a former employee of the bar i quit about two months ago. I go back for drinks once in a while and will continue to go. please everyone help thisw bar continue to be one of the only good places in WEST ASHLEY TO HAVE FUN @. cheese curds are awesome but i hated making them. Good luck guys. GO G-MEN!!!!!
I was shocked to find out how cool HoB was, especially since it was right down in Mt Pleasant. This place is a craft beer lovers heaven, wrapped up in a locals bar. First of all, if you are looking for a normal drinking establishment, you are in the wrong place. This is a house, converted into a bottle shop and bar. They have a nice list of rotating taps, along with two bedrooms full of bottles. Feel free to pick out any bottle you want, and they can have it chilled and served in a few minutes. Prices are fair, especially for Mt P. What really makes this place special is the atmosphere. The owner is the bartender, and you will not find a nicer guy. He cares about his customers and wants to personally meet every one of them (first name bases kind of thing). The house-like atmosphere really pushes you to meet and converse with strangers, as you sip on fine ales. The back and side yards are set up with fire barrels and seating, as well as a stage for live acts. With many positives, we must also discuss the negatives. My only main issue is the hours, which isn't the owner's fault. They close at 10pm, mainly due to the fact that they are in a residential area. I hear that one of the neighbors doesn't like them (for no good reason), and complains quite often. The early closing time can be a letdown if you are a late dinner kind of person looking for an after dinner beer. Despite the early closing, it is still an awesome place to hang out and enjoy some brews with friends.
CPH is my go to Mt P dinner spot on most weekends. The food is consistently good and the tap beer selection tends to be the best in town (in most cases). I have probably tried every burger on the menu, and they are all delicious. I usually order my burgers rare, and am never disappointed. This quality of beef was not meant to be ordered well done. So damn juicy! The lamb sliders are fantastic, but I found out they can also make you a Big Lamb (full sized lamb burger) which takes it to another level. The truffle fries are evil, with that perfect touch of salty truffle oil flavor and a light sprinkle of Parmesan. Lately, I have been ordering the Fish and Chips, as they seem to know how to do that dish better than most places around CHS. My only complaint is that the beer prices can occasionally be on the high side, but it doesn't deter me from ordering a few brews before and during dinner. If you love burgers and craft beer, CPH should be your new home.

Decided to try the I'ON location with my best friend here visiting from from Texas. Of several places the two of us visited during his stay in town, O'Brion's actually did all of the basic things to make a customer feel like a necessary part of the business equation correctly. We managed to get a seat at a nice comfortable high top table, were greeted within seconds by a very lovely young lady (Eva) who was actually smiling and glad to be there, placed and received our beer order which arrived within a couple of minutes icy cold along with well chilled pint glasses, had our questions about the menu answered confidently, and proceeded to enjoy sports on the many quality flat panel screens without the annoying nuisance of loud blaring volume while waiting for our food. The food arrived quickly despite a sizeable crowd and my friend described the burger as the best he had enjoyed in Mount Pleasant. Likewise, the Cuban sandwich I received was total perfection on a plate. As a bit of a connoisseur of this particular sandwich, I must point out that this is the first time I have ever received a "true" Cuban made properly in this town and it tasted spectacular. My friend and I were quite happy that we were able to enjoy our experience at this O'Brion's location from the minute we walked through the door until we left feeling very satisfied that at least one place in Mount Pleasant actually has what it takes to earn the business and insure the return visit of its patrons.
I love this bar best wings in town..ya ya some people don't like but my dad alawys told me you piss somone off then they tell 15 people it sucks.. and if its good youll tell a person. That being said its a fun place to go with good food. :)
You have the best fried shrimp in town!
In response to "Sacred Arrow", this is the most ludicrous, meritless and I would even go as far as to call it slanderous review of a restaurant. This is a family owned restaurant, the owners and employees are extremely hard working to make it a successful place. I go there regularly and have never once witnessed any type of drug use or "marijuana" being smoked in the bathrooms or elsewhere. Especially being that many of my friends who are off-duty and retired police officers patron the place. Majority of whom are friends with the owner. Please keep your false reviews to yourself.
This is one of our favorite go to's for good food and a great scene! So many items on the menu that we love and great drinks as well! Love that it is dog friendly and it has the best outdoor seating on the peninsula.
My husband and I first went to Bacco a few months ago (after passing it numerous times and saying "we need to try that place!"). It was everything we had hoped for and more. The bread is magical - very crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. The half-carafe of red wine is tasty and reasonably priced. The fettuccini alfredo is full of flavor but not as heavy as others I've had/ But the star of the place for me is the PAPPARDELLE AL TELEFONO. So simple, yet so amazing. It's just pappardelle pasta with house-made mozzarella, tomato sauce, and basil, but it's probably the best tomato sauce I've ever had. It's a dish I dreamed about afterwards. We've now made it somewhat of a tradition to go for a date night on Friday night when we're in town. I can't say enough good things about this place! You absolutely have to try it!
Bowens Island has been a cool seafood joint for years, but they have recently improved the already wonderful experience. The food is still just as amazing as it used to be. I strongly suggest the fried shrimp and the oysters (when in season). They have really perfected their process of cooking shrimp, and it is always prepared perfectly. What would make the experience better? Well, consider washing that delicious food down with a wonderful local craft beer. Bowens Island now has 10 taps, all devoted to local beer. As far as I know, that makes it the best place to go in Charleston for local craft brews. They have offerings from Palmetto, Holy City, COAST, and Westbrook. You will have a hard time finding a better environment for dining during the cool Fall evenings here in the Lowcountry.

Oscar's has been a main stay in Summerville for 30 years and is consistant in serving great food, providing excellent customer service and affordable prices. It's for sure on my list of favorites!
Back Home Bar and Grill serves up delicious food with great service. The menu offers something for everyone, and everything is really, really good. With its homemade bread and tender, perfectly seasoned beef, the Philly Cheese Steak is authentic and delicious and the Carnegie Deli-inspired Reuben is the best you'll find this side of NYC. And the fries...... they're fresh-cut and crisp, without being greasy.
We'll be back soon to try the Maine Lobster Roll!!
Best "bar" food in town!!!
The sirloin in a steamed bun, flatbread pizza and the bahn mi are out of this world. My wife really enjoyed the sweet and sour meatballs and the crab rolls (lobster style and she ate both)
One so-so dish (streak fries i.e. potatoes wedges) out of seven is 5-star. You're not going to save money by eating in the bar but a couple can share 6 or 7 amazing dishes and have a 2 or 3 drinks apiece plus a generous tip for about $150. It's laid back and delicious what more can you ask for.
Husk can be found in a beautifully restored residence on Queen Street. When you walk up to the restaurant, it reminds you of a prohibition-era estate with a beautiful landscaping and an impressive front porch that invites you inside with its Southern hospitality. The interior is very classic and southern, dark wood, with lots of little candles highlighting the architecture and design of the building that once housed residents. I would describe Husk's menu as a very inspired southern comfort food composed of ingredients produced exclusively in the south. Husk is another one of Sean Brock's many successes (you may have heard of McCrady's) and his southern roots and attention to detail are obvious in every part of the experience.
When you first sit down, you are greeted with a sweet grass basket of warm rolls topped with sea salt and benne seeds. The menu at Husk changes daily based on what ingredients are the freshest or what mood Brock is in. Although some of the dishes do show up on a regular basis, expect some surprises if you go more than once. Many of the dishes are pig-centric and all of them have a southern flair. For example, I had the crispy pig ear lettuce wraps which were like nothing I had tried before. For the entrée, I went with the duo of pork which consisted of a perfectly braised pork belly and an equally juicy pork shoulder. In addition to pork, there are plenty of other amazing options to choose from. We also had the wood-fired clams and pan seared sea bass which were both stunning. The quality of the ingredients is obvious and the execution was flawless across our table.
Our server provided just the right level of service - not too overbearing but never let our glasses sit empty. And on that note, if you are a fan of bourbon prepare to be delighted. The array of whiskies available at Husk will blow your mind. Many of them I had never heard of and some I had been dying to try but never seen them available. Husk's wine list has a good range of selections without being overwhelming. However I though the fact that it was organized by soil type was a bit pretentious of them. How many people know what type of wine they like based on the limestone content of the ground in grew in? That aside, our experience here was absolutely top-notch and the food is a great way to try southern food with a splash of elegance.
Our experience at FIG was absolutely amazing from start to finish. The mood is warm, the staff is inviting and knowledgeable, and the food is incredible. Our server, John, was very personable and really impressed me with his thoroughness and depth of knowledge of everything FIG. The first delight I experienced was their drink menu which featured some very creative cocktails. My focus immediately went to the 'build your own Manhattan' feature that allows you to custom design your perfect drink from a robust list of bourbons, vermouths, and bitters. Also very cool was the array of Negronis and other special proprietary cocktails offered.
Now onto the food...the focus here is on clearly on using locally sourced ingredients at their prime and treating them minimally to really honor the ingredient itself. Reading the menu, I immediately noticed that majority of selections begin with the actual source or location of the ingredients in the dish. We started out with the coddled Sea Island Farm egg and the chicken liver pate and pork ciccioli. So, I have never had a coddled egg and I really didn't know what to expect when we ordered it, but let me say this is an experience not to be missed. Our server brought out a tiny cast iron pot, removed the lid, and exposed a gently simmering sea of Parmesan cream, tiny croutons, and beech mushrooms. Diving into it, the egg yolk bursts and mixes with the broth to create a flavor that is absolutely sublime. The pate plate was perfect, the chicken liver and pork ciccioli were super smooth and flavorful and the pickled accompaniments and toasted brioche were just right.
For entrees we chose the ricotta gnocchi and suckling pig confit and were blown away by both. If you have never had ricotta-based gnocchi (as opposed to the more traditional and heavy potato-based) you have got to give it a try. Imagine plump clouds of sweet ricotta dumplings in a sea of deeply flavored lamb bolognese. Amazing. The suckling pig, sourced from nearby Caw Caw Creek Farms, is slowly confited and then the meltingly tender meat assembled rounded up and gently seared. Served with roasted beets and greens in a sea of pork jus this dish had everything.
Of the many higher end restaurants we have been to in Charleston, FIG sits right there at the top. What really differentiated this restaurant from some of the other top notch establishments was its lack of pretentiousness while still maintaining the experience. The food and service were perfect and we felt comfortable and welcome being there.
