I've eaten at midtown twice for lunch and have been twice for drinks. Great BBQ and pimento cheese sandwiches and awesome sides like fried okra. The brunch menu looks really good and I've heard good reviews. I've been for happy hour on a Friday night which wasn't too busy and been in for drinks on a busy weekend, the outdoor patio is great and the waitresses are hot. The name says Bar and Grill and it's definitely a busy bar on weekend evenings. give them a try
Club Habana is a very unique spot in Charleston. It has a very intimate atmosphere that is unlike any other bar downtown (except maybe upper deck). One feels if they are in a living room, with comfortable couches and chairs spread throughout the 2nd floor. The bartenders are fantastic, the remember your drink orders and are very friendly.
HOWEVER if you are a non-smoker you might not enjoy Club Habana. The cigarette and cigar smoke is very thick, to the point where ones eyes are so irritated by the smoke they may start watering upon entering. You clothes WILL stink like smoke after visiting. This bar is a real throwback to three years ago when every bar downtown was filled with smoke and it really makes one appreciate the fact Charleston's bars are smoke free.
Nice bar with friendly people and a large beer selection, but there are too few pool tables and dart boards. I think that there should be a time limit on games.
(Actualy 3.5 stars, see below about the fish tacos.) We visited your fine Southern city from the frozen North last weekend, were turned away from Hank's on Saturday night (no tables until a quarter of 9pm) and rather than take the hostess's recommendation (go to their Italian place) wandered over to Henry's House for crab cake, foie gras and shrimp and tilapia tacos. Someone in the kitchen is doing something right. The fish in the taco, though tasty, was less than firm, but the sweet pepper and tomato relishes really made the meal. It was a teeny little bit loud, but we enjoyed all the songs on the jukebox too. Thanks!
AC's in the best dive in town for fries and a coke. No joke. This place rules. Their fries will knock your socks off. <3
I live right down the street from this bar, my favorite is the Barbecue Bacon and Cheddar Burger. I love the way their burgers are char-broiled and have that smokey flavour :D
And I can even smell them cooking when I get home from work which always entices me.
I remember eating at Mellow Mushroom on my lunch break on a weekly basis in Atlanta. They were never so “upscale” so I really miss just calling in to pick up a calzone or a house salad. I miss the simplicity and the ease of getting good food. However, I guess if you put something downtown it has to have some type of “Down Town Charleston Charm”. The food is top notch, however.
Terrific and broad draught selection, very tasteful decor, prompt and attentive service, excellently chosen ambient music, and awesome bread pudding. I look forward to a more in-depth menu exploration. Until then, a fine after-hours watering hole!
I like it a lot. Lisa and Vanessa are both great tenders and very experienced. Changes to happy hour deals are unwelcoming, but I understand that they were losing on the 50% appetizers. Esp. the seafood nachos. Nice place to bring a date and relax watching a game, or having a quality dinner. Please change back the batter on the shrimp. This new one sucks
I've been to many sports bars in the area, but Rendezvous sticks out really well above the rest. The decor is terrific, the food is very good, the beer selection is pleasing, the TVs are everywhere, the bathrooms are ridiculously clean, and they do a fine job with events, kids, bar area, and presentation. The giant-screen is clearly visible, the sound system is solid, and when they do have music the reproduction is great.
I've been there six times and have never been disappointed with anything. I know the name sounds like a strip club, but this is a fine place to eat, drink, and watch some games!
I've been to Sesame about a ka-billion times. While I don't eat a lot of beef, I can vouch for the salivation reflex that kicks in among my friends when I mention this place's very name over their burgers. I love their turkey burger and the bean patty. I love the sweet potato fries. The staff is remarkably friendly, welcoming, and stable (low turnover is a very good sign for a restaurant). The bottle beer selection is terrific, and while they only have three drafts they rotate quality beers... no Bud handles here! Parking is plentiful and it serves as a fine gateway to the Park Circle string of tasty restaurants down East Montague.
I just wish they'd bring back live music.
Had dinner there Friday night with friends....the place was packed! Such a refreshing change from Amuse, which looked like a ghost town all the time.
Service was good, our waitress was attentive, and made some great recommendations. Our burgers were HUGE and delicious.
This will be a regular stop if we need our meat fix!
Despite a menu that hasn't changed in years, the food and staff of Oscar's are superlative! Blending sophisticated southern atmosphere and cuisine with Americana and a touch of Tex-Mex, Oscar's is a "Don't Miss" locale for anyone making the pilgramage to Charleston's Sister City. I've been dining there for ten years and heartily recommend the Steak AuPoivre, Fried Calamari with peppers, Seafood Burrito, Fried Green Tomatoes and of course, the Smiling Burger with blue cheese. While most of the entrees are higher-end prices (and you consistently get what you pay for), the sandwiches, appetizers and fried shellfish are reasonable enough for any Friday night between paydays.
We had a wonderful dinner at Halls Chophouse. The atmosphere was pleasant, the food was great, and the staff was very attentive. I disagree with other postings regarding the staff. We found it refreshing to have a host and waiter that cared about making sure we had a good dining experience. We were visiting Charleston from out of town and stumbled upon this beautifully renovated restaurant. We had a great meal and will be back the next time we are in town.
They serve up some truly tasty stuff at lunch time here. Great salad like the Daniel Island which you can add perfectly grilled seafood to. Or the yummy pasta with shrimp and scallops or crabcake openfaced sandwich. Also great sweet tea and chicken salad on croissant for old school perfection. Interesting drafts and wines as well. Can't imagine brunch could be a disappointment buthaven't tried it yet. Only disappoints were average tuna and shrimp and grits.
Had lunch there this past Saturday. I had a bleu cheese burger and it was very good!! Home made chips were pretty awesome too and the service was excellent!! And the decor is very nice.
Ate there on Saturday night. Busy crowd, but got service immediately. Our waitress made sure and kept our glasses full. There were a few bachelorettes getting their pics taken with one of the bartender sans shirt.
Drinks were great! Food was great! Hubby and I enjoyed our time. Just wished that we weren't seated in front of the speaker.
Never had a bad dish here...
Had a GREAT experience here. Great food and drinks. Friendly bartender, and no waiting for food. Would have given it a 5 except that the bathroom was dirty
Great food and beer selections
