Went this weekend to Guy's. Was seated shortly after arrival. Very nice, attentive waiter, young and inexperienced, but very helpful. After waiting an hour for dinner, the food arrived and was excellent. Extremely large portions of crab legs and all the seafood was very fresh. The pricing needs to be adjusted if they expect long term commitment from the Mt Pleasant community.
We will be back for another chance - but they really need to iron out these issues.
We stopped in Saturday night for dinner and a few drinks. I agree the drinks were pricey, even for the high quality choices. I had the pork slap and it was very good as was the interesting pickle slaw that I had with it. The duck pot pie was good, but tasted more of mushroom than duck. It was a pleasant experience overall, but not what I would call outstanding.
Three stars is a kind rating. We were told this place was the best in Summerville. Well, if this is the best, I will cook every meal for as long as we live here. I give them three stars b/c they tried, I hope, to make it a nice restaurant. Frankly, the food just really isn't that great. Where we are from, eating is an event. This restaurant might make it a year back home.
Great pizza. Amazing ingredients. Pistachio Pesto the best for sure (add arugula and sausage). The chocolates and candy bars from Sweeteeth are to die for. I wouldn't waste my time or money on the appetizers. Soup is nice though. My biggest complaint about EVO is in the beverage department.
First off, there is not a single beer less than $5. The beer selection is great, but who can afford to have more than one. Many of the beers are worth the price (Ommegang, Dogfish head), but many are not. Allagash White and Brooklyn Lager (while delicious) should not cost $5. And don't get me started on New Belgium. No way in hell will I pay $5 for anything they brew. Last beverage complaint would be that they do not serve coffee!?? If you have wonderful chocolates the least you could offer is coffee. Coffee drinks are the easiest way to make a profit on a non-alcoholic beverage.
I think EVO is a great restaurant that would benefit from a fresh look at pricing.
Good flatbreads and burgers. Brunch is another issue. They have great food but cannot pour a mimosa for anything (we asked for better pours on three separate occasions and they just can't get it right.) It is all OJ with a splash of cheap Cook's "champagne." For us, brunch is about the mimosas, so we will go elsewhere until they get it right.

I have only been there once during the day time and that was ages ago so I can't really comment on the dining experience. At night it is a different experience anyway. There is usually a pretty good crowd there and the music is as good as anywhere else that has a DJ (for the most part). The drinks are fairly priced but the bartenders can be a bit slow (may not be enough to cover the usual crowd). Everyone is nice and there isn't a bug chance of drama. All around a good place except for one thing. On the weekends they charge a cover. Most times you just show your id, go in and buy your drinks at the bar. On the weekends they want you to pay a $2 or $3 cover but they can't tell you why. There is no event or band going on, they just want to squeeze you for some extra bucks. I understand charging a cover for minors (the only way you are getting money out of that demographic) but this is 21+ bar, why should you have pay to go pay for drinks when there isn't a event the cover is for?
It's nice to have a place like 17 North way out yonder for those of us in MP looking for a good meal, after a long day, without having to drive too far. The food is good and the menu is interesting. Love the fact that they are growing their produce on property. Happen to agree about things like the utensils and tiny wine glasses. The prices certainly merit a bit better quality. Overall, food is good and service has been friendly. The outside patio with the fire pit is most inviting, especially unique touch is the marshmellows they provide for roasting!
I usually make a reservation and have not had to wait long for my table, but after reading the former hostess' comments, I'm so glad she's not working there anymore. Makes me think twice about the next time I go, what is the rest of the staff thinking? Do they share the same loathing for the patrons that this person obviously does? Hope Brett has something to add to make me feel comfortable about returning to 17 North because honestly that was quite a turnoff.
The food is great. The service is friendly, but slow and inadequate. I appreciate the smiles, but I would rather have a waitress that is attentive than happy. Regardless, I will continue to go back for the food; the ski ball, too.
I've only been here twice & both times were to see Ellen Drive play in the back area. Typical bar atmosphere/service & the place was packed! I'd like to try their brunch sometime - wish I lived a little bit closer :)
I live in Summerville and have been to Montreux several times. It's ok. The service is ok and the food is ok. I have yet to check out brunch but my friends went and said it was pretty good. It is what it is. A bar with decent drink specials and a good beer list. It's not the best bar I've ever been too but it's not the worst.
Two of us went here about 5:30pm on a Friday, it was not too crowded, & we sat outside since it was nice. Once we figured out that we order & pay at the bar inside system, we sat down and decided on what to order. I went inside to order from the bartender. She was not friendly at all. In fact, the conversation went something like me saying Hello & placing my order and her saying,"green or red sauce. chicken or pork. that's $29.00" . the guy who brought us out our chips & salsa was equally without any personality, and walked off without a word or smile when we said hello and thank you to him for the chips/salsa. The only person that was personable and friendly was a guy who I am assuming was the owner (tall blond fellow) since we heard him talking about how old the desk inside in his office was to an adjacent table. He actually spoke to us and asked us how we liked the food and thanked us for coming out. Nice. On to the food. The salsa is good, tasted fresh, and our tacos,etc were all very good as well. I would eat here again, but I wouldnt go for the service or atmosphere. Which makes me wonder, how long can a business last, even with good food, if the service is poor/unfriendly?
I went this morning and got a cinnamon-raisin bagel with plain cream cheese and a small coffee. It was $5. The bagel was smaller than normal. The bagel wasn't very flavorful and there was enough cream cheese for 3 people on it. I had to wipe most of it off. The coffee was good, definitely comparable to other coffee shops around- although not anywhere near Modica's standards. (ok, so I'm still bummed that Modica closed). Overall, nothing wowed me, and I'm not sure if it's worth the money.
Food was good, not sure it was worth the 45 minute wait. Was glad to see they didn't over use cilantro in anything I tried. My one complaint is that the music was SO loud that I couldn't hear anyone at my table. I tried to tell the waitress several times that the volume was excessive, but she couldn't hear me (isn't that a clue?) so I gave up.
Loved the restroom - men and women in the same room. I could tell the men were more put off than women. LOL
Overall, good food but I'd probably get take out next time to save my voice.
The atmosphere at Taco Boy is fantastic. They were very busy, but we were seated promptly, and the service was good.
The chips were fresh, but the salsa had an overabundance of dried oregano. I had the Taco Boy salad with flank steak and roasted poblano dressing, and it was delicious. My boyfriend had the carne asada taco and the grilled chicken taco, and while they tasted fresh, they were lacking in flavor.
Of the three Mexican restaurants I've been to, I prefer Uno Mas to Taco Boy and Zia Taqueria.
The chips were stale and the salsa was ketchup-y, but the tortilla soup was tasty. The woman with whom I placed my order was quite cold; the service could be greatly improved.
when Lombardis opened on Jim Isle, I was ecstatic; a red sauce Italian restaurant right on the island. I so desperately wanted to like it, I went three times. Sorry, even with the friendly owner checking each and every table at least twice during their service, the food just didn't cut it.
La Tabella is a different kettle of fish, (they really don't servce a kettle of fish). On my first visit, I tried the spaghetti with marinari sauce, figuring if they coudn't make red sauce, it will spare me another trip. If a place can't handle the basics, the rest of the menu would follow suit. Happily, they nailed it.
La Tabella offers a large menu that should have something for everyone.

I agree with Aleyeat's last paragraph regarding busy nights and getting a table. If you're that busy, put a hostess on the floor. Why should the customer be put in the position to pester other customers by hoovering over them while they hopefully finish. And then it happens to you when you're winding down. Hey, but it's Poe's... Like Paris Hilton. Famous for being famous.
Have been here many times, but never a review. This can serve as a compilation I guess. Food: menu is small but the burgers and tacos are good. I have probably ordered the tuna tacos 80% of the time, mahi tacos 10%, and burger the rest of the time. All are good and safe bets. My wife orders the buffalo shrimp salad most of the time. Also, fries are some of the best in the area.
The beer at Poes is OK, decent amount of drafts, but most wasted on inane products. I have also been here when the draft system has been down, the beer tasted flat, and have also got a different beer than I ordered. For the most part though, the beer was served acceptably.
Last time I was there, I was squinting to see what was on tap when the bartender said the list is on the board. The list on the board is firstly not up to date and secondly only lists the brewery not the beer. This is something I find more and more with uneducated servers. I have ranted about this before. When asked what beers they have, they answer with the name of the brewery and omit which style. This probably comes from their macro upbringing in the beverage industry. Nobody ever says which Budweiser is that on tap? Needless to say, I never did find out what Kona was on tap although I wouldn’t have ordered it anyway. A second thing that happened after the first bartender left (shift change) was a server asked the bartender which Southern Tier and where it was from? This is a tourist destination so they were likely looking for a local product. The bartender did tell her the type, but just said I don’t know about location, not “so and so knows” or “I will find out.” Anyway, I told her Lakewood, NY and she looked at me and said “is that really where it is from?” I was thinking no, I go around to bars and make up places when people ask where a brewery is from. Minor point: most, not all of the bartenders think they are something special. Servers have been better.
The last item that is a peeve is when they are busy, it is a crapshoot for a table. You are forced to hawk over people trying to guess which one will finish first. Sometimes, if you have good Karma, a table opens up as you walk up, but then you probably gain bad Karma because there is likely someone else somewhere else in the place who has been waiting longer. The answer to this is they are busy enough where they don’t care, just be forewarned.
Will I go back, duh, yes. I just wish they cared more about the customer and the beer.
In the site of the old Mcaffrey’s Pub, which didn’t last long. Was there once and was unimpressed. This is a review so don't complain about the length. If uninterested, don't read.
Not much décor change, inviting enough although I can see someone wiping out off the ledge of the sidewalk after a few pints too many. We sat at the bar which is divided in two, unchanged from the Irish Pub. Met right away by a bartender and we digested the beers available which where on a menu (not updated) and also on a chalk board with prices (marvel concept). Menu and beer list were one in the same, time and again these places need to realize print a cheaper beer list cause it is going to change. I think they have 16 taps total (4 nitro) but 2 were empty. The list included Stone IPA, Victory Storm King, 2 taps of Lite, 2 taps of Allagash White, Sierra Nevada Big Foot, 2 taps of Guinness (nitro), Bear Republic Apex (the reason we came), Bells 2 Hearted, Young’s Double Chocolate (nitro), Dales Pale Ale, and Avery New World Porter. Not a bad varied list, I’d say they are now the best tap list on DI, Laura Albert’s would be second only due to limited number of taps, but this is a tavern and LA is not very comfortable to sit and have a beer. Also, a halfway decent bottle list is available.
A group of guys were indulging in craft beers, saw a Hopslam bottle and several other pints being consumed, a good sign.
On to food, the menu has a bit of an identity crisis. Why do the people who open these places need 5 standard entrees? They have a Poe’s-like Chicken or Burger area and a limited appetizer area that could use some work. We were snacking so we ordered the Fried Green Tomato Stack, Orange Soy Wings, and sliders (supposedly good burgers here). Fried green Tomato Stack was the best of the bunch but was pretty tiny for the price. The wings were non-offensive and served with additional sauce on the side. They just didn’t have a lot of pop in the flavor and the sauce really didn’t hold onto the wings. Two other flavors were offered, buffalo and BBQ, which we didn’t try. The sliders were a bit of a disappointment as they were quite dry and overcooked and only 2 came to the order where 3 is usually expected, not mentioned on the menu ($1 extra for cheese). Additionally, the burgers came with mustard and ketchup, no pickles or any other topping which may have taken some of the dryness away. Fries that came with the sliders were advertised as hand cut and they were quite tasty.
I say we will definitely be back and I wish them good luck. Again, a beer menu with write-ups could be easily done and I think I would invest in knocking down the divider between the two halves of the bar. One thing I did see was a guy next to us order a Weihenstephan Hefe that was on the bottle list, but not on tap, and they didn’t have it any longer. But, the bartender offered him a taste of Allagash White right before I was about to recommend it to him, instead of just waiting for him to make another selection. That’s a bartender who knows a little something about what he’s selling, which is refreshing.
