Ate there for dinner on a Saturday night, there were maybe 10 folks inside & outside total. Waitress was ok, but kind of had a "meh." attitude in general. B-friend got a quesadilla with pork tenderloin, bacon, and bbq with the salsa side. Was somewhat disappointed. Said bbq sauce tasted like KC masterpiece and the salsa had as much pow as Piggly Wiggly brand salsa. I had a chicken sandwich with bacon and cheese. It was fine, but a little on the bland side, nothing to write home about. Ok for one visit, but not worth two.
I and a couple of friends of mine ate dinner at Tantra last night. It was a disappointing affair. Between the three of us, we ordered the tuna sliders, crab dip, calamari, duck quesadilla, bleu cheese dip, and shrimp tempura. And I say "ordered," because that's not exactly what we got. After ordering, the waitress, apparently bereft of the ability to write, had to ask us to go through our orders a second time. Then, after going to enter the orders into the computer, she came back and asked that we repeat parts of the order yet again.
When the food finally came (most of it, at least), one of the dishes was still wrong (crab cakes were delivered instead of calamari), and one of the dishes was absent completely. One would expect that an order checked thrice would at least be correct.
The food itself was nothing to write home about. I can only speak to the duck quesadilla and tuna sliders. The duck in the quesadilla was stringy, overcooked, and overpowered by a tangy sauce in the quesadilla itself. The aoili served on the side was decent enough. The tuna on the sliders was VERY thin and, as such, slightly overcooked. Given the thinness of the squares of tuna, they should have been placed on a scorching hot grill, immediately flipped, and then quickly removed. These were left on the grill probably twice as long as they should have been.
At least the beer selection was good, though. Wait... actually it's terrible. The most interesting entries are Yeungling and Guiness. And there are no beers on tap. At all. It's all bottled. As mentioned in the City Paper blurb, there is quite an extensive vodka selection, however.
The atmosphere is the best thing Tantra has going for it. It feels nothing like AC's, the bar which it replaces in its location. There is a nice lounge section on the right as you walk in, with overstuffed leather couches and chairs. The bar is centrally located. The decor is mellow. All in all it would appear to be a great place to go have a few drinks (even if the food is mediocre). My only reservation in that regard is the quality of service, or lack thereof. If they fix that and get some beer taps, it could become a nice, relaxing place to sit and chat with friends over drinks. One caveat to the atmosphere on this particular visit - there was an employee walking around hanging and taking down paintings the entire time we were there. It wasn't a huge deal, but I'm certain that she could have found a better time of day than the dinner hour to do such things. It was distracting.
Just average, nothing to blow your skirt up. The Beer was good, my salmon BLT was okay, but underseasoned. Seems like a little too much of a chain-restaurant atmosphere. Maybe theyre still working the kinks out....
Came for lunch and ordered a few appetizers (3). Was told they were out of shrimp so had to change our order.
We waited for about 20 minutes until 2 of the 3 appetizers made it to the table and was told the last one would be out in a few minutes. THEN the waiter came back and said that the meat hadn't been taken out of the freezer the night before so they couldn't make the last appetizer.
At the rate that the food was coming out, we didn't want to wait another 20 minutes if we ordered something else.
The waiter didn't charge us for our drinks (ice tea and water) because of the appetizer issue.....big whoop.
Don't waste your time eating at Fuel.
Bad experience all around.
My husband and I recently dined at Red Pepper. We both have backgrounds in the food & bev industry, so we are generally low maintenance diners and we understand that things can come up that are out of the control of the server, etc. However, I was very disappointed with our experience at the Red Pepper. The food was ok, but definitely not worth the price. The $8.95 Calamari was rubbery, obviously dropped from frozen into the fryer, and lacked flavor. I had the Chicken Parmigiana which was very good and the $13.95 price tag was reasonable. However, my husband ordered the Special - Grilled Pork Chop with Cremini and Porcini Cream Sauce and Spinach Pesto Pasta which the server told us was $17.95. When the bill came, they had charged us $22.95 and refused to adjust the price. It seems a bit underhanded to me to promote a product for a specific price and then once it is too late to send it back they just charge whatever they want. The Special wasn't even worth $17.95, let alone $22.95. The "foccacia" that came with our meal was a joke, it was basically greasy bread sticks. Although the restaurant wasn't busy at all we had to ask repeatedly for refills on our drinks. I was very disappointed in our experience there. They promote their restaurant as "authentic" Italian, but I lived in Italy for over a year, and authentic this is definitely not. Using italian words on the menu doesn't make you authentic. Save your money and eat somewhere else.
NOT the best chicken, KFC is still better than this place. The place was very hot and ghetto lookin. Quite expensive for fast food. Ribs tasted like it was cooked in a crock pot with McDonald's BBQ sauce.
I ate at RB's at someone else's insistence and was unsurprised at how little I enjoyed it. The bar was nice, but beyond that I didn't eat anything that made me ever want to go back. It was so forgettable that the only thing I remember is: don't bother going back.
Clearly the owner spends far too much time worrying about parking enforcement and too little time on the kitchen. Overpriced, under-tasty, and actually somehow the views aren't even that great. Doesn't the same person/group own Red's and RB's? What's with the crazy parking situation.
"RickFriday" rides again...I smell a rat, or a mole.
I can't figure this place out. I've been twice by boat. Saturday afternoons. Both times, we were the only ones there. Still sporting the miss matching yard sale/motel chairs and tables. This is the second time in 6 weeks I've stopped and I feel like they're still trying to figure out how to open a bar/restaurant. I'd like to give their Sunday buffet a try but just can't get up the nerve.
Went on possibly the worst day ever--Valentine's Day. Crowded, noisy, as we expected it would be, but tolerable. Food was good, but not stellar. Waitress was friendly but REALLY pushing hard to pad the (already expensive) tab. Might go again, in the future, maybe for lunch to see if we just originally picked the worst possible day to go!
We went to Halls for half price burger Sunday. First of all, the burger was decent but was cooked all the way through when we had asked for medium-rare. The fries were actually good, however. The problem I had with this place is that they almost made us feel bad for ordering the burger. Why have half-priced burger day when you are going to make your customers feel bad for ordering just that? We were repeatedly asked if we were "sure" that's what we wanted. We went there specifically for a trial run since the menu is normally very pricey. This was the opportunity to test the waters without having an outrageous bill. Between the staff's immaturity and the just-ok burger, we will not return. I understand that Hall's may have great steaks, but please try to tone down the attitude.
The place looks amazing. The service and food, well, not so much. We went there for lunch (which might have been the problem) and the food came out cold and had ingredients missing. The chicken sandwich that was supposed to have boursin cheese did not, and the caesar salad that was supposed to have rosemary croutons did not. The bad part is the waitress didn't even notice. She wasn't that great either. Didn't really seem to want to wait on us which was frustrating.
the decor was modern and chic but too bad neither the food nor the drinks matched that. we got there early, but were disappointed that they could not deliver most of their house specialty drinks because they were out of this, so they substituted that, and there was no liqueur for that drink, and then they eventually ran out of liqueur for this drink...etc..etc...kind of takes all the fun out of going to a place like this and seeing such interesting drinks on the menu but not be able to have them! food came out mediocre; the bulgogi was not authentic or was it innovative, so really it was just tiny pieces of warmed beef with dipping sauce. i wish we had chosen a more polished place to go for our night out, and am hesitant about recommending it to anyone.
The meal started off great, our server was friendly and efficient. Everyone was happy with their meals, until towards the end, when we noticed some dark specs at the bottom of the fries. The waitress told us that the fries are cooked with bacon, and they need to update the dinner menu. Unfortunately, 2 of my dining companions do not eat pork. Thanks for allowing us to pay (full price) for you to make us sick.
Today is July 21st & several of my co-workers & I visited your establishment for the first time. We were impressed with where the restaurant was located and the food was delicious. However, the service was very slow & the waitress had a major problem getting our orders correct. This really wasn't her fault, as she was the ONLY employee working & she tried her very best to please everyone in the restaurant. It seems a couple of folks called in sick, which caused the problem.
We ordered the flounder basket & we were shocked that we only got two very small pieces of flounder. We also ordered hush puppies but they never came. When asked about a iced tea refill, we didn't get that until we were ready to leave.
We work less than 2 miles from your restaurant and we arrived at 11:45 a.m. We didn't get our bill until 1:00 p.m.
I will check your website to view other comments before ever dining there again. Here's wishing you good luck on this new venture & I truly hope you will improve & do a good business.
Thank you
Was ok. If you wan't better Greek food in summerville, go to Opa Cafe. Especially if you're looking for a gyro.
I must admit that I am quite disappointed in Taco Boy downtown. While the owners did a wonderful job with the renovation, it is located in an awful area of town. A parking lot mugging or a holdup of the restaurant is inevitable. The prices are outrageous for a mexican restaurant in the hood. One is much better off just heading to Santi's and getting authentic Mexican fare at a fair price. The biggest problem with Taco Boy is the service. It is absolutely awful. Wait staff completely ignore patrons who many times sit at the tables for around 15 minutes before even being approached. They refuse to split checks and are rude and irritable. I do not recommend Taco Boy and will be amazed if they survive in this location without making some serious changes.
We tried Silva Spoon for lunch based on the glowing review from the City Paper. However, we were sadly disappointed. First of all, what kind of respectable "soul food" place considers a terribly overcooked boneless chicken breast to be good food? We tried the breast and wing plate...the wing was edible although they use a cornmeal type batter which in my opinion should be reserved for fish only. The macaroni and cheese was actually quite tasty. The other sides we tried (collards and lima beans) were definitely nothing to write home about either. The sweet tea is too syrupy sweet and to add insult to injury they charge 50 cents for a refill. The ladies in the restaurant were very friendly but unfortunately we will not return.
The chicken in my salad was tough and over cooked. Husband said his french dip had stale bread. Ho hum i guess. Our boys loved the tank and pirate stuff.
Re: “Chai's Lounge”
this place has a great atmosphere but the food is mediocre and although it is a tapas menu i found the portions to be skimpy and overpriced! My friends and I (4 total) literally ordered almost everything on the menu and still left there hungry! I miss Meritage.
