Five Loaves in Mt. Pleasant has moved a few doors down in the same shopping center. The new space is larger and brighter, but with the high ceiling and concrete floor it is very noisy. There is a divider toward the back of the restaurant and sitting behind it is a little better.

We met a friend at 11:45. It was busy and we took the last booth behind the divider. The server came promptly with menus and took our drink order, returned with drinks and took our food order. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. I checked my watch and it was 12:25. Being generous we had waited at least 20 minutes to that point.

The server was refilling glasses at a table next to ours and noticed me. She came to apologize for the wait and said the kitchen got hit with a huge to go order. At 12:40 we finally got our food, which was at least a 30 to 35 minute wait.

While the food and service were okay, management failed horribly and created a poor experience. Taking an order so large it ties up the entire kitchen for 30 minutes and leaves a restaurant full of people sitting without food is simply stupid.

After reading the great reviews for Alluette's, we were looking forward to a wonderful meal when we stopped in for dinner on a Saturday afternoon. Only only one other table was occupied, but the service was slow. The food was was a disappointment --- small, uninspired servings at a fairly steep price. The items displayed in the glass-fronted refrigerator sure didn't look organic. We left hungry, and later we ended up at Bon Banh Mi, where we had a terrific sandwich.

I don't think we'll be back. I can't believe this is the place about which we heard such good things.

Very dissapointing. We went to the Mt P location, and we had take out. The soup was SO bad that we actually went back with it instead of throwing it away and planning something else for dinner. There is no way a cook/chef made this soup as it had zero taste, way too much flour and the texture was appaling. Will never go back.

In a word... Disappointing. The good. Friendly staff, Greek salad, sandwich. The bad. Dirty tables, food on the floor, room temperature soup, plastic bowls and utinsels, one third of their soup selections not available. On the soups we had... Loaded potato was bland. She crab was floury (yes, that's a real word). One can only deduct that the soups that weren't available on an early Satuday evening are the only ones worth trying. Won't bother visiting again. This was the Mt P location.

Really tasty. I mean it, I enjoy their food. My problem is it is overpriced. I wish they could cut their prices by $2 across the board. As-is I almost never eat there

DON'T GO UNLESS YOU HAVE A BUNCH OF TIME!!

The food is decent, but the service is consistently very slow! Most recently, I walked in the restaurant where one person was already enjoying breakfast. I ordered a breakfast sandwich. 20 minutes later I was still waiting despite only 1 order being placed after mine. I informed the staff that I would need to take my meal to go instead of eating it there because I now needed to leave. The staff acknowledged this and then I noticed that they were now STARTING to fix my order.

If you want a similar restaurant with better food, go about 4 blocks towards meeting street to the Charleston Tea Co.

This place really isn't the same anymore. I guess the old owners sold it and now it's just gone down hill with the new owners. My wife and I used to love going there for the crepes and sandwiches and relaxed atmosphere but the last few times we've been the new owners we're unfriendly, like they couldn't be bothered with us, and the food wasn't what it used to be. The prices had gone up considerably and the portions are much smaller. The sauce used for the my wife's Tenacious Turkey tasted like plain sour cream not the basil and honey dijon like it used to have and the amount of meats and cheeses in our food was far less than we were used to. Not to mention we paid $9 for a sandwich smaller than my palm and that was just for the sandwich. We were very disappointed, this place used to be a great hidden gem and now it's more like a cold tourist trap.

Not great food but a great recovery!

In the Iron Gate Plaza on Hungryneck Boulevard is tucked a small, charming restaurant named Mosaic Café and Catering. Recently a friend of ours said it was her favorite place to take her daughter for lunch. She hasn’t steered us wrong yet, so we decided to give it a try.

The restaurant whose vision is to “effectively nourish the body and soul while preserving the highest level of quality and value” is warm and inviting. Our server, Lauren (who we also found out was one of the managers), was very knowledgeable and helpful.

The day we had lunch there was the first day for their February “monthly specials” menu. Lauren reviewed the menu with us and I decided to order the BBQ-ranch chicken sandwich which was advertised as a pan fried chicken breast tossed in balsamic BBQ sauce, topped with pepper jack cheese and cranberry cole slaw, on a Kaiser bun. My husband ordered a cup of white bean turkey chili and a Charleston chicken roller which was a wrap with grilled chicken, bacon, smoked Gouda pimento cheese, spinach, tomatoes and basil mustard. (This sandwich is rated as a Mosaic favorite on the menu.)

The menu itself is interesting. It offers a wide selection of salads, sandwiches, pasta and has an entire “fit” section where all of the menu items are 450 or less. It was difficult to chose.

The restaurant got busy but when we ordered it wasn’t and our lunch was served very quickly. We found the white bean chili to be very bland, but the Charleston roller was great. I again, had unfortunately ordered the wrong dish. The sandwich was as described and the cole slaw was an interesting “purple” (literally), but the sandwich was so overpowered by the taste of vinegar that it was barely edible. The pasta salad that I ordered as a side was al dente and then some, bland and tasted gritty. I had thought that by ordering one of the specials, especially on the first day would have be a win, but it wasn’t.

Lauren did everything she could to apologize. I usually temper my feedback if something is not great, but this time I found myself saying it was “simply awful”. She also offered to get me anything that I wanted on the menu, but we were on a time schedule and had to run.

A few minutes later another manager came to the table. She explained that the cole slaw and the BBQ sauce both had balsamic vinegar (no kidding), so that must be what I was tasting. I mentioned that I liked the vinegar, but it was just too much.
She really did a nice job apologizing, offering me a different lunch option – anything that I would have liked. But THEN she did something that was really unnecessary, and to me, somewhat over the top. She comp’d my sandwich AND she gave us a gift card to come back. Often times when a meal is bad the manager will comp an item but I’ve never had a manager give us a gift card to insure we came back and gave them another try. What a great recovery!

We will try Mosaic again. They really want you to have a great dining experience and it shows. I am certain next visit will be the charm.

Way too overpriced!!!
I can appreciate what they are trying to do... emulate a certain New York establishment but they have too much going on and not enough influence on the basics. A half hour to get a sandwich made, no cashier available and a premium price tag. Go down to Bull Street to get a better sandwich with no frills.

My wife came home one day telling me of this restaurant and how good it was. I couldn't wait to try it. I really enjoyed the outdoor seating and the friendly way we were greeted as we walked in the door. The owner was at the register taking orders and was very nice with a large smile on his face.

The food was okay, at best. I had a sandwich with turkey and bree cheese that was a little too much like one I've had at vickerys right down to the sweet, herbed mayo. I did like the cripsness of the granny smith apple and the fresh flavor of the bread it was on, however. My wife had the chicken salad with a really good pasta salad as the side. I had the potato salad and found the potatoes a little undercooked and way over seasoned, tasting a bit like seafood for some reason. The chicken salad and pasta salad, however, were good enough that I will come back the next time I'm in Summerville, just in hopes that the turkey sandwich was just not to my liking.

I was not overly impressed with their desserts, however, as I was told they were fresh and some of them were bought in, as was apparent by the pieces of paper between the slices.

Overall, I will come back, even if just to be greeted as warmly as we were again. Few places are like that anymore.

Saffron used to be a lot better. Past times I have been it hasn't seemed very clean. The menu is okay. I just never feel like the food is that fresh. The day old bread is a nice touch but definitely tastes like old bread.
