Saffron used to be a lot better. Past times I have been it hasn't seemed very clean. The menu is okay. I just never feel like the food is that fresh. The day old bread is a nice touch but definitely tastes like old bread.
I first heard about this new bakery while having lunch at Five Loaves. One of the waitresses raved about Lauren's delicious chocolate croissants and said her husband was sneaking to the bakery every morning to buy one. I love chocolate croissants. I was so excited. I have been trying to sample one ever since. First, I went on a Tuesday. No croissants on Tuesdays. Then, I went on a Wednesday. Sold out. I tried another Wednesday. Not ready yet. Finally, today she said that she would only bake them once a week because they were too much work. She failed to mention what day. I give up! All the other items there are good. Selection is limited. Also, good luck finding the place. The sign is hung the wrong direction for a busy street and you cannot see it easily.
Re: “Bakehouse Charleston”
I was not impressed. Everything LOOKED beautiful, but the cakes, cookies, and brownies I tried (my friend and I ordered a lot) were heavy and not very flavorful. I give them points for style, but I bake stuff better than that at home all the time.
