I have been to Poe's at least half a dozen times. Unfortunately, the first few times were nothing more than progressive disappointments. The food was a terrific let down even for a ‘beachy’ tavern and while the service has never been rude, it’s always been terrible whether at the bar or dining.
After that I found myself there wondering why my friends insist on visiting this place. Again, the food is never great, it's occasionally okay. The salads are typically brown and I've been very obviously served a salad for lunch from the previous day's dinner.
The only reason they can still be in business is because they are one of a very few places to eat on Sullivan's island.
Poe’s falls drastically short of their parent company’s name, REV foods (short for revolutionary).there is nothing revolutionary about Poe’s.
If you want a burger that looks, and quite frankly, TASTES like a hockey puck, you would thoroughly enjoy Poe's. I recently moved to Charleston and being a cheeseburger lover, I went to Poe's after hearing everyone rant and rave. I usually give every place 2 or 3 chances, but I really wanted to like Poe's, so I gave it FIVE. I was disappointed 5/5 times. Each time I was served a blacked piece of meat with tons of condiments to disguise the fact that the meat was in fact charred. Seems to me, if you want a good burger in this town, you're better off making it at home!
This is a terrible bar made more terrible by the unbelievably rude staff-- I totally agree with the previous post about them being "unkind". Being a bartender in Charleston myself, and having given Brick SEVERAL chances to redeem their terrible behavior, I can say for sure I will never be back, and you should stay away!! The bartenders were downright nasty to us on a slow Thursday night, to the point where my crew left with full beers on the bar. It really is too bad that a lousy staff can bring a bar down.
If it were possible to give this bar negative stars, I would. Brick sucks. The bartenders are so unkind, I could hardly believe it. Literally two minutes after last call they start yelling - no, screaming for everyone in the bar to get out. They obviously do not care about providing a good service to their patrons, nor do they keep their bathrooms open past last call. I was very tempted to leave a warm yellow present for the bartender in my empty cup. Brick is the worst bar I have visited in Charleston, and I feel like a fool for going there even twice. Do not waste your money there. There are much, MUCH better options downtown!
