On a trip to Charleston with my Mom I googled Asian stores and H & L Supermarket came up with good reviews, so we made it one of our stops. We spent almost a $100 in groceries, including a can of coconut juice which I took a sip of before heading out. Well, the coconut juice tasted rancid and spoiled, even the coconut pulp was yellowish - a bad batch of coconuts or something. In any case I went back in to exchange it for a different can. I very cordially and respectfully ( I never get rude or snide, not my style) explained the situation to the manager lady but she obstinately refused to exchange the coconut juice, insinuating that I was lying and then told me to complain to the company that made it. Even after repeatedly letting her know that I truly wanted to be able to write her store a good review and spread good word of mouth to people I meet (hint,hint) she remained stubborn then rudely walked out on me. For their utterly abhorrent customer service, my Mother and I will never ever patronize this business again.
Our meal was so horrible that I cannot even rate it with 1 star. Meal took 40 minutes to arrive at the table, food was ice cold. Burger arrived 10 minutes later - cooked well done vs med rare as ordered. The lettuce in the grilled tuna salad was rancid and rotting. Manager comped entree portion of the meal - but worse was the attitude - she really did not care. I'm local and posting on every blog I can find.
The owner is a total crook. I've posted my experience every where today: I've had to file two BB complaints with Mr. Mulherin's Maaco regarding warranty work done to my vehicle earlier this year. One little mistake turned into six days of wasted PTO, over two hundred dollars worth of rentals on my dime, and my car still hasn't been fixed. This is the third visit and John Mulherin, the owner, just threatened to call the cops on me when I requested a proper loaner car for me and my two year old son. He offered a shop car that smelled like an ashtray, looked unsafe, dirty, worn, the front driver side door didn't even open... and asked that I drive that for three days til my car was ready. This is after he refused to pay $27 a day for a rental that would have been safe and clean to drive for me and my son. I am beyond hurt and aggravated that I cannot be shown proper respect as a paying customer and no one should either. His business practices are abhorrent, I'd take my business elsewhere. Oh yeah, he gave me a rock off his desk that said "Get Over It" and told me I should take the hint. Will do.
The most amusing sock puppet post was the one that said probably the best beer selection in the city. They might not even have the best selection in their own part of town, let alone the many, MANY other places around Charleston with a better selection (Edmund's Oast, Craft Conundrum, Closed For Business, Gene's, The Barrel, etc).
So I guess I'm a sucker. I saw the bad reviews and figured it couldn't be THAT bad. And if it was I thought it might be fun to see. It's exactly like the negative reviews say. Sorry. Make changes now, before it's too late!
And c'mon, the 5 star reviews from people who obviously are connected to the place (i.e. have only posted one review or 2 and the other was for the Sip in Mt. P.)? That's so 2007!
Awful, son at the door is rude and they treat you like they dont want your business. Come to find out they have bought other restaurants downtown and they all are failing!
Yeah, agree with everything already said. Three of us planned to eat dinner here two weeks ago, despite the fact that there are no prices on the website menu. Super lame, already indicates you're mainly focused on profit, not longevity. I'm not going to say something bad about someone I don't know, but the owner wasn't very pleased when we told him we were just stopping by for a beer, not dinner. I just threw it back in his face. You can't really talk down to new customers because we made a decision you didn't like. Doesn't work that way. If people are leaving, you should want to know why, be friendly about it, cut the would-be customers a deal, a beer or sweet talk them into staying. What you have to do when you are starting up a new restaurant in this ultra-competitive environment. While we wanted to chill and scope the portions, prices, and vibe, it didn't take us long to check out. I didn't see this ridiculous mustard charge yall are talking about, but I took one look at the place, and said it won't make it to April 2017. Charleston has some pretty high standards, so you gotta play the game I guess. Agree with the identity crisis comments. Look, I hope every business succeeds, it's good for the city, jobs, and the owner, but they're going to have to mix it up, and sweeten up...bigtime.
Have been to Republic multiple times before but this was the worst experience and I will never go back to this establishment.
Won a VIP table on Instagram for this past Thursday. We arrived and the hostess brought us to our table - enjoyed our drinks throughout the night. When we were ready to leave, server brought us the tab (which is gratuity + taxes when you get "VIP treatment"). I specifically told the server that we would be paying in cash for the bill plus her tip. We ended up giving her at least $100 in cash (our check was for $51) but I wanted to add $20 to her tip so I told her to put that on my debit card. Little did I know that she would be charging me for the entire bill plus the $20.
When I called to complain about this, not only did I have to call 3-4 times before getting any real help, but the management just kept telling that my bank had placed a "hold" on the money and that was why my debit card charge was for $85! At no point has this "Hold" gone back onto my card (I was told it would go back on Monday). All the while, one manager spoke with our server, and our server told her that we all paid her separately in cash (not true, all the cash was left in the book) and she also told her manager that she knew one of us personally (also not true). I was never refunded any of my money and the manager on duty that I spoke with even had the nerve to say that they "comped us a bottle of liquor" insinuating I shouldn't really be complaining - keep in mind, this is part of what you win when you receive "VIP"... I just cannot believe this place. I've never had a worse customer service experience and I will never go back.

The cook needs to learn to make a rue. The worst Gumbo I have ever had. I would never eat here again. I order a 2 glass of wine it was never sever. The Coffee I had at the end of the meal was old and burn. Can I say more.
Don't waste your time, this place is terrible. The one star is for the balls it takes to charge $2 for a side of mustard. I shit you not. Won't last 6 months unless they make major changes. To everything.
Went at 11:30 pm and the bouncer literally did not let me in...I'm 21. I am there most weekends. My ID was real and I showed the cops across the street. The owner should maybe look into this...
Coastal Crust was the worst decision we made for our wedding. While their food is good, their customer service and follow through on contracted items is non-existent. We had specific requests (written into our contract) to make the day truly "ours". Brian never took care of any of them and months before the wedding our planner began asking about the status with little to no response and promises that were broken regularly. While we negotiated a rate due to the fact that we were providing a few items when the contract was originally procured, Brian continued to fight us when he couldn't provide what he promised which required us to provide even more (at retail) just 2 months before the wedding. We came close to firing him at this time and he renegotiated another rate during a meeting when he was asking us to rethink our position. Reluctantly we stuck with him, giving him the benefit of the doubt...big mistake. He took notes (again) and still didn't complete our wine tasting as requested (wine types were not correct again), not to mention he was late and we tasted wines while batting away a barrage of fruit flies in his location. He continued to falter on his promises and 10 days before the wedding we were told he raised the rates and we were basically told we could pay them or find someone else. In addition, 3 days before the wedding we found out that one of the specified beers he was supposed to be providing was not secured and we had to select something else, again, something we ended up procuring and supplying ourselves at retail. Now on to our wedding day, Brian and his team did show up (yes, sadly this was a concern of ours at this point). The guests enjoyed the appetizer that was provided and while we had specifically requested service for the bride and groom while we took photos during cocktail hour we only received a beer from one of our groomsmen when we asked for it. Dinner service starts and we (the bride and groom) are standing in a line of about 20 people and Coastal Crust ignored the fact (trust me, I wasn't hard to miss in my large dress)...our wedding planner ended up getting our food and serving us herself. Later we found out that Brian did not secure the one local craft beer he was supposed to and did not provide the domestic beer options requested for our two picky guests that were in the wedding party. In addition, he continued to charge us for a second appetizer that I realized was never provided after quizzing my guests days after the wedding. Brian would not provide a new invoice removing the items that he did not provide and wanted us to pay in full; to which we refused. We offered what we felt was a fair amount given the circumstances, lack of service / product, and the amount of stress he caused. During these emails after our wedding, Brian was everything but professional or polite and in his own roundabout way called us names and accused us of basically stealing from him (because we weren't willing to pay for things he didn't provide). At one point he even told us we were the worst decision he had made - believe me, we felt the same but never said this to him and remained professional and were willing to go to court over his actions during the course of our wedding. Hiring Coastal Crust still leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I barely even ate his food and only drank the beer/wine that we provided ourselves. If you want a vendor that you must babysit and still get things wrong, Coastal Crust is your go to.
Mike is rude and disrespectful to his business neighbors. He shows no respect for the people around him in the Warehouse he works out of. I highly recommend that no one supports such a rude businessman here in Summerville.
I never post feedback typically, but I am making an exception. My children and grandchildren were in town and I planned for us to attend the Low Country Christmas at Boone Hall. We had high expectations as being represented by Boone Hall and due to the cost of the event. We were extremely disappointed. The idea is phenomenal but very underdone. I realize this is their first year and perhaps some feedback will help them. Too few food venders, too few activities included with price. The long lines with a let down of product offered. Santa's workshop was rushed through and needs more live interaction, live props, not just painted walls. The Christmas Village could have used some pizazz, like a snow flake machine, more shops or interactive activities for kids. The hayride was fun, but truthfully, needed much more lights, could really have been all lights and just fun Christmas music playing and a guide to encourage interaction, we sang one song at the very end of the ride. One of my biggest gripes was no facilities for babies, I had to change my one of my grandchildren on the floor of a building on her coat. Needless to say I will not be recommending this event. I'm sorry to be so negative but I had such high hopes as it was the main activity I had planned during their stay. The lights at James Island is far more economical and well worth the trip.
It is criminally overpriced and mediocre. They charged $18 for pulled pork or $21 for brisket with two sides. The pork was okay but nothing special and no taste of smoke at all. The brisket was a study in bad barbecue technique, starting with too much fat and ending with being overcooked. The sides sounded great but were bland and flavorless.
tried them a couple of times. First, wife is from Philly, I lived there with her a couple of years, and the reason we went there the first time was because of that description. Ain't even close. And the wings? Dipped in bottled sauce and way undercooked ( I'm talking red and raw at the bone) the first time, overcooked the second. We used to live about 4 blocks from the joint, but after the second try we never went back.
Club house is nice and setting is okay. I stayed at 4108 unit and could not say enough bad things. Water damage in the bathroom led to mold issue that was unending. Owner decided to change tile in both bathrooms during my stay- I was forced to move out for a week. Told I would be compensated but after lease ended of course I received no refund. Carpets are stained and appliances are the lowest grade. STAY AWAY
