I was on my way home from the beach with a van load of kids, age 4 to 14, when suddenly I knew we were in trouble. My van started to shake and lost acceleration. It was extremely HOT outside, and the idea of being stranded on the highway with all of these kids was terrifying to me. The staff at JK were 100% helpful, honest, and skillful in their handling of the situation. After less than 2 hours, I was back on the road. Rather than take advantage of the situation, and gouge prices, knowing that I was desperate, they took care of everything at a more than fair price. These people are excellent at what they do, and ethical in their management and prices.
Philly born and raised. This place takes a backseat to no one. I have never had a better cheesesteak. Period.
To help with the throttling of "Matt Gallo", he was created on May 18th and managed to have lunch at both locations on that same day (look it up, it's hilarious).
I've been there twice, and I liked the selection and the bar service was fine. It's on James Island (I've lived here for seventeen years), and I applaud a place when it takes a real crack at it. I can't speak to anything but the list and the aforementioned bar service, but if there's Ballast Point on tap, and Green Flash, Stone, two Terrapins and two Founders in bottle form--and these are all IPAs.
But these are also grocery store beers, and I have a hard time paying six bucks for a ubiquitous Goose Island or a Sweetwater IPA, four times what I pay at the Teeter. I'm certainly not paying for the sweet vistas of asphalt and the muted silhouettes of an electrical substation and a Money Man Pawn, and if I'm reading some of these reviews right, and a possible response to this review might be "if you don't like it, stay home", be careful..I have a screened-in porch, a 60" TV, and a $14 growler of Jade. More later when I try the food.

Philly's is amazing! I've never had a problem anytime I've gone and the food is super delicious! The wait staff are always friendly and the wait time can be long depending on when you go, but it's so worth it!
The most amusing sock puppet post was the one that said probably the best beer selection in the city. They might not even have the best selection in their own part of town, let alone the many, MANY other places around Charleston with a better selection (Edmund's Oast, Craft Conundrum, Closed For Business, Gene's, The Barrel, etc).

Disappointing in one word is the experience we just had at this highly over-rated restaurant. We are locals (26 and 36 years) and very familiar with downtown dining options. We walked over from the Dock Street after a late afternoon Spoleto performance. We did not order "cocktails" or a first course (which seemed to personally affront our waitress). Long story short we waited over an hour for our entrees after being told by the waitress that she "forgot" to "hit send" on our order. The entrees finally arrived; I ordered swordfish which tasted more fishy than what my husband brings home straight off the boat. I sent it back and declined to order another entree because of the long wait.
The manager came over to our table and did comp my husband's entree. He then proceeded to very arrogantly and condescendingly inform me that the crab roe was responsible for the fishy taste and further enlightened me by telling me it was an acquired taste. Of course the implication being that I am not nearly sophisticated enough to appreciate fishy crab roe. I understand that the staff and chef do not care about this bad experience because they do not need or want our business. We will not return.
So I guess I'm a sucker. I saw the bad reviews and figured it couldn't be THAT bad. And if it was I thought it might be fun to see. It's exactly like the negative reviews say. Sorry. Make changes now, before it's too late!
And c'mon, the 5 star reviews from people who obviously are connected to the place (i.e. have only posted one review or 2 and the other was for the Sip in Mt. P.)? That's so 2007!
Two of the 5 star reviewers here have exactly one post on this site. The other two 5 star reviewers have exactly two posts each, their others being 5 star reviews for the Mt P Sip. Nice try. Now go do your sidework.
I have always had excellent service here. The ambiance is appropriate and the food is great. It is one of my favorite restaurants, and I'm so glad I don't have to leave West Ashley to eat there!
I agree with the "weird identity crisis." We went for date night, which was definitely a mistake. All seating is group seating. Unless you want to sit at a bar, or at a table with other confused couples, this is not a date night spot. It was dressed in stainless steel, served wine and charcuterie but yet nachos and beer? And the peanuts on the floor? The service was okay at best. Not trying to rip on the place, but I was genuinely confused. I guess the fact that it's trying to be everything and has group seating means it would truly be an excellent place to meet a bunch of friends. Maybe I was just expecting something different, but I wasn't excited about this place.
As a 28 year old business owner myself, it amazes me how untruthful and off target many of the reviews I read are. I live on James Island and have had lunch here twice and dinner here 4x. Their food is always fresh and their service is always A+. This is what James Island needs but yet people on social media are determined to be heard. I recommend trying this place out yourself and developing your own opinion because it is my favorite place to go with my family and friends.
absolutely beautiful food and well prepared my only caveat is a little salty but i got everything fried so thats probably my problem.

Ok first this is a dive..however this is not a negative. Draft beer not ice cold, bologna sandwich is great but too expensive and to small..i mean two slices of bologna, really! Jerky is great..i ordered the Chili with meat and sausage. I thought they gave me the vegan one but they said no. So good luck finding the meat in it. It was also the WORST chili I ever had. They are lucky I gave them a 3.. a good place to drink though.
We have often visited over quite a few years. I can say,that fir the past 3.5 years,there has been zero disappointment . All ordered items were just exquisite . Matters not if fried,broiled,etc.,they know what they are doing. The salads are first class too,of course. I particularly love the crab cakes. Reservations are smart on weekends.
