Convenient location from our apartment, and we heard from a friend they serve $5 burgers on Tuesday nights so we went up to check it out. The place has definitely been smoker-friendly in the recent past, so you might notice your clothes have a stale smoke smell when you leave. However, the burgers were really tasty, and there are several great beers on tap, plus what looks like a well stocked liquor supply. They also have trivia on Tuesday, as we learned once we arrived, and it's free to play! Prizes are bar cash. Overall a good neighborhood spot and a very tasty $5 burger. We'll be back!
We went to Amalfi's last night.. it was the best food I have ever had the pleasure of eating! The bread comes to the table with a plate of oil and herbs for dipping -- the bread is heavy and filling and tastes so, so good! I got the tomato soup and fettuccine alfredo. The tomato soup was the best I have ever had. It was so creamy and had pieces of tomato in it and just burst with flavor. The fettuccine was so soft and creamy and the best pasta ever. My husband had tortellini, which I tasted, and am not usually a fan of, but again.. Amalfi's did not disappoint!
The vibe was lovely as well as it felt rather intimate/romantic and of course italian. We probably would never have found this place if we hadn't been actively looking for local cuisine in Mount Pleasant and I would agree with the previous reviewer who called it a "hidden gem". I would recommend to anyone who wishes to have a lovely italian meal or a nice date night.
Also, I did want to point out -- it was not overly expensive and actually quite affordable .. for the two of us (no wine or dessert) it was in the $20 range before tax to give you an idea as I understand different people have different understandings of what "affordable" is. Another side note as well.. this was incredibly filling. We would have tried a dessert otherwise.. Will have to try for that next time =)
So, I considered giving this 2 stars, but went with 3 because the food itself is not the issue. The food.. the recipes.. they are quality and very tasty. However, EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.. we have EVER been to this location.. our order is wrong in some way or another. It is usually things like telling the server not to put this or that on your burger and be VERY clear and forward about it and then you still receive it with all the stuff you did not want. This is a problem. I have food allergies and even if I did not.. it's just not okay. Listen to your customers. Don't just assume you are going to remember the order to relay to the BOH .. it's all very irritating especially since I LOVE Five Loaves.. it's in fact, one of my local favorites, but we have been so many times to this location of Sesame Burger hoping for a nice meal, but we are to the point now where we have stopped going.
I LOVE Skoogies and we go there on a regular basis, driving all the way from Goose Creek. I know their Chicago style hot dog seems to be quite popular, but my personal favorite is the polish dog with Chili and Mustard (i love the chili!) and my husband gets the roast beef melt. Also, the fries are great too.. and the seasoning ... now I want Skoogies lol.
Interesting to see such a 180 degree difference in the ratings....and experiences. The fact that it is alllllll the way over on Seabrook Is. means my chances of going all the way from Summerville are slim and none.
great food great dj good home like feeling everyone knows everyone... good special's and pricing. not your average bar.
The neighborhood hardware stores, especially Royal, gives customer service. That is lacking in most big-box stores. Even if a few cents more, the knowledge of the employees is worth it.
"This seafood restaurant boasts two bar areas — an inside bar shaped like the bow of a boat with three beers on tap, and an oyster bar toward the back, decorated with fishing gear."
Actually, it has three bars. The third is the only dock bar on Shem Creek (as in, it's built on pilings over the creek).
This place has been in business in 1982. The food is good, including the steaks, but service can be a inconsistent.
My wife and I went to the beach with our dog. As we left we wondered if Red's was dog friendly. They were more than dog friendly, they gave us a great seat on the deck and brought our big dog a bowl of water. Almost every customer and server stopped by our table to pay him some attention.
The service and food were really good and the staff were super friendly.
We've been back twice since then for the all-you-can-eat crab legs and loved it. The wait during summer was pretty bad (it never crossed my mind that it was tourist season until we got there), during the off-season we never had to wait for a table.
Comparing the Seabrook location to the Mt Pleasant location it's hard to believe it's the same restaurant, the vibe is so different. The Mt Pleasant Red's is much more "rustic" and like a bar that happens to serve seafood. If that's your thing great, I prefer the more open and airy Seabrook location for it's laid back atmosphere. It's mid July as I write this and I can hardly wait for September, when I plan to be back at Red's.
Our meal was so horrible that I cannot even rate it with 1 star. Meal took 40 minutes to arrive at the table, food was ice cold. Burger arrived 10 minutes later - cooked well done vs med rare as ordered. The lettuce in the grilled tuna salad was rancid and rotting. Manager comped entree portion of the meal - but worse was the attitude - she really did not care. I'm local and posting on every blog I can find.
Royal IS an amazing store with old-school service, they're awesome. But for all you people who regularly shop at Lowes or Home Depot, next time you need something, check out your local hardware store. There's usually one within a few miles, they're privately owned, service oriented(they actually know what they're talking about) and their prices are the same or better than the big boxes. I promise you'll be blown away and will become a regular customer.
Not the greatest place to go if you are into actually listening to music. The highs (treble) bounce all over the cavernous box, and I'm pretty sure the MO is to crank up the volume to an ear splitting level because the monkeys at the bar are yelling drink orders and clanking beer bottles. I've seen artists ask the crowd to quiet down (e.g. JJ Grey, Amos Lee), and it just didn't happen. I also noticed that they haven't come back. The vibe in there is "college party", with the music appreciators crammed in the snake pit in front of the stage.
Overall, the layout isn't conducive to having a place to post up, have space, and enjoy the music...if you creep to the back for space you're forced to observe the party-goers and their noise. Best place in town for actual "dialed in" music levels is the Pour House (except the Music Halls of course, but you're sitting down then)...the PH shows don't start until 11, so you better be a night owl.
Ever heard about Civil Court? Take him there for all the actual damages he has caused, and have the judge talk to him. You'll take him away from his job for a day, and that will cost him. Have any records prepared, in detail. so you can present them to the judge. These places are well known for their dishonest tactics.
The owner is a total crook. I've posted my experience every where today: I've had to file two BB complaints with Mr. Mulherin's Maaco regarding warranty work done to my vehicle earlier this year. One little mistake turned into six days of wasted PTO, over two hundred dollars worth of rentals on my dime, and my car still hasn't been fixed. This is the third visit and John Mulherin, the owner, just threatened to call the cops on me when I requested a proper loaner car for me and my two year old son. He offered a shop car that smelled like an ashtray, looked unsafe, dirty, worn, the front driver side door didn't even open... and asked that I drive that for three days til my car was ready. This is after he refused to pay $27 a day for a rental that would have been safe and clean to drive for me and my son. I am beyond hurt and aggravated that I cannot be shown proper respect as a paying customer and no one should either. His business practices are abhorrent, I'd take my business elsewhere. Oh yeah, he gave me a rock off his desk that said "Get Over It" and told me I should take the hint. Will do.
This is my new favorite restaurant in the city. The food was amazing - unique, extremely well thought out and done, and an overall gastronomic delight. To top it off, the staff was knowledgeable, friendly and personable bringing together the total presentation in a way you just don't find very often. I was with a group from various locations across the country. There were numerous comments that this meal ranked at or near the very top of all meals they'd ever had - both here and abroad I couldn't have been prouder of this local gem. Can't wait to go back.
So funny, I seemed to have the same problem at the one in Summerville. Had to reschedule due to the drawing not being completed, and after 2 weeks, half a grand for a thigh piece smaller than my hand. No wonder it seems like on one is ever there to get a tattoo
Had the club sandwich after a long drive from Raleigh. Friendly employees and the nicest patrons I've met in years..Solid place to revisit with family and friends.Love that it's smoke-free!!
nice but way overpriced
Warning: please do not go to this place. I have been here three times and each time there has been some kind of drama surrounding the bar area. I have never been in any kind of altercation at a bar and unfortunately the general manager at the bar was completely rude and classless.. Please do not waste your time and energy coming to this place, Downtown Summerville has a lot more to offer than the terrible service given here. Overall, very displeased and appalled by the low level of professionalism and service at this place.
