Re: “Cypress Lowcountry Grille

I went to Cypress for the first time last night for Restaurant Week. It cost $90 with tip for two restaurant week dinners and a martini - the martini (Lavender) was the only thing worth paying for.

Started with Lobster Bisque - it was okay. I had the Koren Beef BBQ for dinner and the first four or five bites tasted like nothing but char and ash from the grill. The rice and veggies were lackluster and overall I decided I'd rather save the calories for dessert. Bad idea. The Pecan Pie was horrible. One of the worst desserts I've ever had during restaurant week. It was small and round and I had to hold on to it with my hand in order to cut the crust. The middle was dry and it was just...definitely not good.

As someone who looks forward to restaurant week each September/January and really enjoys trying new places I can't normally afford, I was very dissappointed to have wasted my money here. If I ever go again, it will be to get a Lavender Martini from the bar upstairs - I'll eat dinner somewhere else.

Re: “Cha Cha's Tequila Bar

I'm giving it three stars only because I know it can be more consistent. I know they had a rough start and I was hearing some really bad things about the food, but the last three times I've been in it's been really spot on good.
I think they had some serious kinks to work out, but as far as somewhere new, affordable and good to go on James Island, I've been loving it at Cha Cha's.
I mean: Pork Belly taco with roasted bananas and crunchy peanut butter!!
I like non traditional approaches to food and they are making some really interesting and good combinations.

Re: “Butcher & Bee

Just had the Fried Chicken Banh Mi Sandwich for lunch. It was the BEST THING I've eaten this year. $10 for the sandwich + $1 for tax and a cup of water. Pricey, but well worth a visit at least once a month. I didn't like the hummus appetizer.

Re: “39 Rue De Jean

My wife and I went in for a late supper Saturday night close to ten o'clock, pre-Built to Spill at the Farm, after the Grocery messed up our reservations. We had the foie, the beef tartar, the sweetbreads and the charcuterie. Everything was delicious. Nice to see an old school place still doing well.

Re: “Pizza Roma Diner

Okay, so I don't know pizza like a lot of people on here. I've prob never really turned down any style or make of pizza when offered. but....dang.
This Place is awesome. Give it a try!
So far I've tried a lot of menu items before i thought to write review and not a bad word to say in the bunch.
I think the super philly is right up with the best you can get around town. I'm a big fan of the competitor in summerville..but that is a bit far of a drive for me on a regular basis.
This is a lot closer to almost anywhere in town and yummy.
Oh and definitely try a slice of the Coconut Cake if at all possible!

Re: “UNITS Portable Storage of Charleston

Great company that is LOCALLY OWNED! Competitive pricing usually a little cheaper than the others! I've used UNITS multiple times and would recommend this company to anyone! GLAD TO SEE AN AUCTION! This will be fun!

Re: “Mama Kim's

LOVE Mama Kim's! The food is so fresh and delicious, they treat us like family when we walk through the door. Best Korean food we have had by far...anywhere! Hmmm, now I'm craving some Mama Kim's!!!

Re: “Diamonds North

As you can see from their website, the women there are okay/average. Nothing much to write home about. A lot of these women are young and trying to earn money for college or their kids. I know that most people consider strip clubs to be a seedy place to work, but I am more critical of the men who come here than the women who work there. Guys who are old enough to be the fathers of these women should not be going there every weekend. And, if you go there, be a gentleman and treat these women like ladies. It is, after all, a gentleman's club.

Re: “Village Bakery

I live in the neighborhood .. Staff service is uneven & at times the Mgr is haughty as if she is doing you a favor by serving you .. Don't go here at busy time .. Food is fresh & tasty but expensive ..

Re: “Bon Banh Mi

I found it delicious, but the portions are on the small side. The sandwich was a hot dog size for $8.50, with no side. They just need to tweak it, and it could be an institution.

Re: “Baguette Magic

Was introduced to this place a couple of weeks ago by a friend. Didn't even know it was there. I bought a chocolate croissant that was to die for. Had to get the apricot for later. Wonderful! The baguette we took home for dinner was the best I've had in a very long time. My French mother, bless her soul, would have loved this place. Also, the customer service is lovely and refreshing.

Re: “Zia Taqueria

Baja fish tacos, $2.50 on a Monday night. Friendly and attentive service. It's like a fast food place where you order and pay at the counter, except the food is so *so* much better! If you don't like fresh ingredients (like cilantro) go to Taco Bell.

Re: “Angel Oak Restaurant

We were glad to hear that a new restaurant opened on Johns Island, and we're really glad we stopped in at Angel Oak Restaurant on Friday night. The restaurant's interior is comfortable and inviting. Nicole (the owner) greeted us and made us feel at home by bringing a jar of boiled peanuts to our table. We ordered two appetizers --- the fried bacon and the lobster mac and cheese and both were delicious. For our entrees I chose the Beef Short Ribs (red wine-braised with thyme demi-glace over stone ground grits) and my significant other ordered the Shrimp Carbonara (with tender local shrimp and house-made pasta). We loved both dishes.

We like everything about the place --- the ambiance, the wonderful food and the great service we received.

Next Sunday we're going to try Angel Oak's brunch!
