The food in this place rocks! I was afraid to go to this place because of what I saw online. But my best friend kept saying that I needed to go. So I went and WOW! Crazy! Food was great and inexpensive and the atmosphere was terrific.
So, being the jerk that I am, I'd asked, why did they get so many bad reviews and then they pointed to me to all of the other sites that they were doing well on. I showed them the review about the Groupon and they said that in this business, you can only try to please everyone. Not everyone can be satisfied. Further, they noted that they are under new management and that they took over the business in 2013.
Lesson learned: Most people that enjoy a location would never take the time to write a good review... it is only those that have a bad experience that go out of their way to note it. So... I am going out of my way to write a review of my experience last night!
Just ate here for the first time tonight and will definitely be back! Pho bowl and Bibimbap were awesome, finally some good steamed buns!!!!! This is a great addition to Mt. Pleasant.
Thit Bo. Damn. I wanted to go into the alley out back to see if there was a Vietnamese lady squatting over a piece of charcoal with a grill basket in one hand and a fan keeping the coals hot in the other. These people are doing it right. The nuoc nam sauce was wonderfully fishy, citrusy, and spicy. You are supposed to just dip into it but I finished it off with a spoon.
BeerLao for $4. Yes, in Laos it is $.60, but you are not in Laos.
Service is just kind of meh. Atmosphere also leaves something to be desired, as the tables are kind of cramped in the very narrow space.
The food, however, is outstanding and reasonably priced. Best curry this side of Calhoun. Working on King street, I eat here at least once a week.
My husband and I had food from here twice for takeout and once to dine in (in the span of about 2 weeks). We've tried a variety of the items on the menu, and everything has been terriffic. The service was more than fine the time we ate there. I highly recommend the Pad Thai and the Laos Egg Noodle Soup with Braised Pork. You can't beat the food for the price! It's one of our new favorites.
Great food for a great price.
Love this place - - favorite Korean place in Charleston. Excellent quality and prices and friendly staff.
I've been to XBB twice now, once for lunch, and once for dinner. Both experiences were fantastic. This is NOT an Asian Fusion restaurant. The dishes XBB create are authentic to Asian heritage; some of them are indeed spicy, and you will enjoy your experience more if you share the dishes among the table in the Asian tradition.
Lunch provides some great sandwich options, I had the pork sandwich (filling but not too heavy) and the cabbage pancake is fantastic (this dish is on both the lunch and dinner menus). The dinner menu is more extensive, so there is plenty to try. The flounder dish currently on the menu is absolutely to die for -- it has this lightness complemented by fennel and dill that keeps the broth from overpowering the fish. I wanted to steal it all for myself!
Also incredible is the drinks selection. Joey (formerly of Belmont Lounge) has created some amazing cocktails, and they have some really cool international beers I had never heard of, but were very good.
The vibe is very cool and this is a really easy place to meet people and strike up new conversations. Not only is the staff really friendly, but the other patrons were a lot of fun and interesting to chat with. Overall, this is a great addition to the Charleston scene, and definitely provides and experience you can't find anywhere else in town!
Octobachi has a great environment, great staff, and high quality food. It's a great restaurant and they always have drink specials! I am excited to have them in my neighborhood!
The Sushi was great, the presentation was great and the taste was great I recommend the place to all my friends. The servers and maitre'd (James) were very friendly and gave us a free appetizer. Great place!
I love this place and can't get enough of it! The menu offers an amazing array of fresh and delicious food. There isn't anything on the menu that I don't like. The service is outstanding. Regina, the server who always helps me, is wonderful. She remembers who you are, who you've brought in and always asks how they are doing . . .even if they aren't with you. There is no doubt that this is Charleston's best Asian restaurant. There's something on the menu for everyone.
Went twice in the past week, the first for drinks and the second for dinner. Was very pleased to find Greenville's own Kind beer on tap and loved the reclaimed wood bar. Bar staff was very friendly and enjoyed sake shots for the first time in my life. On my second time to Octobachi I had the chicken and mushroom hibachi. Upon ordering I was told the chicken was free range and was thoroughly pleased, I believe this should be the norm and like that they don't advertise the quality of their food and at 8.99 I was very happy with the proportions and perfectly cooked chicken and mushrooms. The teriyaki sauce went very well with everything on the plate. Overall I'm very pleased with my two experiences at octobachi and will definitely be back soon. It is definitely what this neighborhood needs.
Amazing design, phenomenal food, really friendly staff, and great add to the Charleston restaurant scene! Well done Octobachi.
I can't believe Riso Noodle House isn't the talk of this foodie town. Everything about this place is great --- our server was extremely friendly and helpful and the food is wonderful! I ordered the yellow curry with chicken and my significant other ordered the Mongolian beef Bento box. We can't wait to return to Riso Noodle House to try more of the items on the menu.
The staff is friendly, and for the quality of the food, the prices are unbelievable! Seriously gives Tasty Thai a run for its money... Not to mention the fact that if, like me, you eat dinner around midnight, Spring Rolls is down for the count every night of the week. I think they deliver until 2AM during the week and 3AM on weekends.
The yellow, green and red curries are all delicious, as is the pad thai. The sushi rolls are not gigantic but what they lack in size they make up for in taste. Great lunch specials, too.
We love the Riso Noodle House, we have been there at least 5 times and the meal has been delicious everytime. Try the mongolian beef or the mr. beef, they are both excellent! The people that run the place are extremely nice and always there if you need anything. You will definitely have a refill before your drink is half empty. It is clean and reasonably priced, too many asian restaurants in Charleston charge too much money for below average food. The menu is expansive and has something for everyone. The bento box is a great deal! I hope you will give Riso Noodle House a chance, we are glad that we did.
By far one of the best Asian restaurants in town and worth a drive. I had the teriyaki bento box and was overwhelmed by the variety of flavors and the quantity of food. It was one of the less-sweet teriyaki beef dishes that I have had and the flavor of the tender meat came through nicely. The ginger dressing on the salad was very fresh tasting and the 2 Grenade appetizers were a wonderful surprise. The staff are very attentive and watching two women manage the whole dining room was a study of efficiency and grace. My partner had the Yaki Soba noodles upon the recommendation from the server and the dish arrived sizzling! We left very satisfied and would advise everyone with a craving for Asian flavors to take a trip to Riso noodle house. Oh and the prices are very reasonable.
My hubby and I randomly picked Riso Noodle house tonight because we couldn't decide on a place to eat. We definitely broke our rule of eating in a place with pictures on the menu, but it actually came in handy here. The food was AMAZING and the prices can't be beat! My husband ordered the Singapore noodles with chicken. This may be the first asian place with REAL chunks of chicken...and lots of it. I ordered the Mongolian beef with fried rice. The beef was super tender... not that chewy, rubbery beef you get at most Asian places around here. The rice was light, not super greasy and no fake pork chunks in there. Just simple fried rice, with a little egg and green onions. The food comes mild so that any palate can enjoy the food, but we added a little spice. Our waitress took great care of us as well. On the way home I texted EVERYONE to go out and try this place!
Tonight was the first time I went to Zen. I had heard great things about this place from friends and family but never really gone there myself. I went there right before heading downtown with my husband for Halloween. I must say, this place was a huge surprise for me. When entering the restaurant, I was stock to see the beautiful glowing bar and the dark red and brown interior wall with bamboo separating the dinning rooms. It was so modern, nothing from what I had expected coming into West Ashley. The menu had varieties of Asia from modern sushi to traditional Thai. We started with rock shrimp tempura as an appetizer. My husband ordered a signature roll (Mega Million) and I had the Pai Thai. The appetizer was plated lovely and so delectable. The roll was absolutely stunning, I was so impress on the detail that was put into a simple roll. The Pai Thai for me would be considered as a second best, it was a very close tide to Basil downtown. The server was quick and very professional. I was happy to see that there was a server and a runner for each table, this to me made the restaurant classier and stands out from others around that area. Even though they had a unique beverage menu, there were regular drinks and deserts like any other place in Charleston. However, Zen was able to just put enough of their own special touches to make it more elegant. I have to say, I was very impress with the whole experience of ZEN and will definitely be recommending others to be coming here.
Great food served hot and with a smile. Helpful and attentive servers.
Been there several times. So far everything we have tried has been great.
Chicken soup, Chow fun noodles, pad thai, etc.
